Judy, thanks so much for the links! Just went in and ordered a ton of goodies and toys from Super Parrots! I found the Harrison's Bird Bread that I have been wanting to try for awhile now and could not find locally. You are the greatest! :cheer:

I would like to know where everyone gets their toys? We have several local stores, but not a big selection. Have been on-line and looked at several places, just wondering where a lot of you shop. Thanks!

I usually just put them in the oven on low for a few minutes to thaw. I also crumble them on top of their food - if you microwave, be sure to crumble to make sure there are no hot spots. :cheer:

Here is the recipe: 1 box Jiffy corn muffin mix follow directions on box - then add 1/2 cup pellets 1/2 cup dried fruit 1/2 canned beans (any kind) 1/2 cup chopped broccoli (or other veggie) 2 TBS crushed cuttlebone 2 TBS chunky peanut butter I have also added organic applesauce, and crushed up Harrisons pellets and carrots. You can really add anything your bird likes. Bake them in the small cupcake holders. Takes about 15 minutes at 350. I freeze them and give one per day with breakfast. Mine love these and go for them first!

Summer25, have you tried Birdie Muffins, they are easy to make and you can add all sorts of veggies in them. Mine love them and I can sneak all kinds of good stuff in there. Let me know if you would like the recipe.

I really think I could pick mine out, Miss Lilly gives me kisses everytime I pick her up and Bingo grabs my hand as if to say, "What took you so long to come and get me". If there was a line-up and I couldn't hold them, I would have to really study! But, I think I could

Thanks for the input - I did pm Ramsabi and he has responded. The site that Jayd gave me is awesome and have started reading and will find out all I can there. Thanks so much to all! P.S. no eggs in the last 2 days woo hoo

Brittany, you should not feel bad about clipping Peppers wings! I would have done exactly the same thing in yours shoes. I can't imagine the emotions you were going through when you finally got Pepper back and then rushing to the Vet to make sure he was O.K. You were just trying to make sure he stayed safe. Granted, I know they can still fly with clipped wings, but I don't think clipping is a terrible thing. If it was a bird in the wild, that would be a different story - pet birds are already in our homes and confined (not natural for them). Again, I am so happy he is home and safe, those feathers will grow back before you know it. Take care.

That is so sweet!!! I especially love week 7 with that little bit of red tail starting to show!! Thanks for sharing!

I am so glad you found Pepper! I cannot imagine what you went through - I am so happy for you and Pepper!

We have a female Cockatiel that is 2 1/2 yrs. old. She has been laying eggs since about the end of August and to date there have probably been close to 30 (I have lost count). First, I took them out and then read that they should be left with her for 10 days or so. I have tried partially covering her cage, now I don't know what else to do. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

DYH, of course!

I really don't have any info for you - cause all of my birds with exception of my Amazon were 6 to 8 years old when I got them - but that is the cutest picture - just had to tell you!

Thanks to all - you are all so nice! The picture is of my son on one of our visits to the shop before she came home --

Post edited by: ajlinva, at: 2010/02/12 13:52

Calypso is a little girl, will be 2 years old on April 15. We got her when she was weaned at the end of July 2008. There is a wonderful bird shop in Williamsburg, VA where we found her, and after we decided to get her, we would go at least 2 or 3 times a week to visit. When she was a little older, my son would spoon feed her on our visits.(she is his bird by rights) They are very bonded to each other, but she will go to all of our family, but he definitely is her favorite! She is a real clown and never ceases to amaze us with her antics - so full of energy and always getting into something. She started saying gooooood girl at about 4 months and has quite a large vocab now. A pure pleasure and rotten as can be! We love her anyway!

I use sleep cages for my birds and it seems to work real well for us, since we can be up early and not disturb their sleep. But, one of my Greys never poops in his sleep cage. As soon as I get him to his big cage in the morning though, thats the first thing he does. Didn't know if anyone else has had this happen, or if it is un-healthy for him to do this. Thanks for your help.

The list I went by is on this web sitehttp://www.mdvaden.com/bird_page.shtml What list do you use? Also, there is a man in my area that makes play trees and playtops, (which we have) and that is the wood he uses. I sure don't want to use anything un-safe, but how do you know which list to use ---

Does anyone know how long you should let wood dry out before using it to make toys? We have gotten some Crepe Myrtle and don't know how long to let it cure. Thanks!

I wish you the best of luck with your new baby! I will tell you from experience that you will never regret bringing him home if he is anything like ours. The personality will win you over, and you will be head over heels in love in no time. Our Rainbow is also a plucker and was when we got him, he was vet checked and all was well there. About 2 months ago, I started him on "pluck no more" and he has feathers coming out everywhere! I have read that it doesn't always work in every case, but it sure seems to be working for us so far. Rainbow is such a sweet little cuddle bug, we dearly love him. Congrats!! :cheer:

We went to a Animal Jungle store in Virginia Beach, VA a couple of weeks ago and they had a 8 month old Hyacinth Macaw for sale there. He was the most beautiful bird - price tag of 10,888.00. Very playful, the girl there was just swinging him around and he seemed to be having a blast and enjoying the audience. BIG OLE BEAK!!!
