Don't buy an unweaned bird if you have never hand fed or weaned before...esp. sense your breeder is so far away.
  2. LATE CHANCE TO VOTE!!!! I FIND OUT TOMORROW WHAT THE RESULTS ARE:woohoo: {Nature-0002009B}
  3. I'd never get a bird from a major chain store...I've heard to many things about them. And thanks Christina for the compliment on my store.
  4. Thats all he's got?!? He is very cute!
  5. I would hate to see the day that anyone would get used to people poop...  :woohoo:
  6. Elmo loves "Two and a Half Men" "Nova" "Nature" and some commercials catch his attention too. He laughs along with the Men show, but seems to be "learning" when watching the other shows. Of coarse now he thinks Church TV is a comedy, so he might want me to leave that on for him more often. I put the rdio on for him 2-3 times a weeks and I used to put it on NPR, but then I thought he might start talking like Rush Limbaugh so I changed it to the 80's station...he seems to like it more anyways.
  7. Thats what I would love to do one day...Janice...but being a stay at home breeder would be awesome too.
  8. Here is a diagram of how to clip the wing. Let me know if you need any more help with how to do it.
  9. Well, It seems from what you have said he is still getting lift with just the one wing and cannot steer himself anymore. I would clip him, because from how upset you sound he must have come really close to hurting himself.
  10. Yes, no sharing the cage! Plus, you don't know if the new bird has anything or not so it must be quarentiend away from your grey for about a month. If you post a photo I could tell you what kind it is. There are many types of Ringnecks...Indian, African, Alexandrine, and some that are closly related like the Plum-Headed Parakeet and the Mustache Parakeet.
  11. Featherhut - I love my job! I work at a local pet store part time Fri-Sat-Sun-Mon (I work a Mon-Fri job too) and even though I have to clean up poop and change about a MILLION water bowls a day It's so much fun when I get a few minutes and can work one-on-one with a "difficult" bird and really get them to become sweethearts with me. It's a really cool store, we have a huge bird department and have everything from Caninde, Buffons, and Hyacinth macaws down to Canaries and exotic finches. The website is www.petkingdom.org. There are live cameras where you can watch the departments online and another section where you can see the animals that have gone home.
  12. EWWWW!!! Thats why I would never become a Nurse, I can't deal with people poop. I can't really deal with dog poop ether. It's the smell that gets to me...bird poop really doesn't smell so I could care less about touching it.
  13. There are mixes they sell in the stores that you just add the wet stuff too.
  14. {Feel-good-0002006E} You still gotta touch it Judy even if it is on your shirt!   I'm like, the bird poop queen!
  15. My hands are washable...and why not if it's already down your back?  I've had poop in my hair, on my butt from sitting in it, in my shoes...still trying to figure that one out...so I've had poop pretty much everywhere. I guess when you clean up after 30 large birds poop just doesn't get to you any more.
  16. {Feel-good-00020069} I've been full of tips and tricks lately!
  17. I know, I used to talk to Falcon all the time...I wonder what happened?
  18. No problem. Glad I could help. One more thing, making sure she has plenty of calcium can help prevent egg binding.

    Red factor

I like the ones that have the Salmon color red factor. Check out the thread "Color Mutations" on the forum, some really cool pics on there.
  20. From what I have read only the shells off hard boiled eggs should be given and they should be boiled extra long to be sure all the bacteria has been killed off the shell. I don't feed egg shell because of the possible bacteria on them, but I scrape cuttle bone onto wet foods.
  21. Yeah, me too. I'll take a listen when i get home.
  22. If he only has one primary on the one wing he probably was not able to glide safly at the right angle. I have been thinking and you may want to hold off on clipping his wings if you want to continue to have him fully flighted because the feathers that came out in the fright will grow back faster than the ones one the other wing that is clipped. Normally if should not take too long (every bird is different when it comes to growing feathers) so he could end up lop-sided again if you clip. One thing you can do is see how far he is able to go before hitting the floor and then put a bunch of pillows or gym mates all around his cage at that distance when he is up there just incase he trys to fly. Normally parrots realize they cannot fly pretty quick...like you said he got confused and tried to fly a few times after the first attempt, so he will probably stop trying pretty soon.
  23. That is the main thing to watch for. Everything comes out that one hole and when there is something stuck it backs up the production line. If she is acting normal in every other way then I'm sure a Monday vet visit is fine...no need to rush-rush.
  24. I live in a gated community...no barns around. If I still lived out in San Carlos Park I could have gotten a bunch of pics of chickens...they run wild there.
