  1. Yes thank you! We already have a Quaker so we aren't 100% new but we unexpectedly got her cause someone we knew didn't want her cause she was abused and he didn't want to take the time with her. But there isn't anything like getting a little baby and bringing it home!! And to know it's a GIRL!!! How cool. We don't have to guess what she/he is! We are still doing that with our Quaker lol. We just have one toy so far, we still have to get a few and the cage we are still in the process of getting. Time is caving in on us we better get a move on! I'm sooo glad all of you understand the excitement! My husband and kids look at me like I'm crazy lol.
  2. I have tried to read what you can feed your grey. Lets see try to avoid salt. The breeder already has her on Zupreem pellets along with fruit and veggies. As for what we eat for dinner, Can I give her some of that? We do that to our Quaker. It seems very very odd actually but she loves chicken. I almost feel funny about giving her some but she won't shut up till we give her some lol. Anyway back to the grey's. Can we give her bites of our food? If they aren't too salty? Can anyone give me a list that I can print off of some veggies and fruits that are good for your bird? And the bad things for your bird? I know things like caffeine and it's probably the same as the Quaker in a way, they can't have avvacodo seed or apple seeds. But anything else would be helpful. Don't want her to eat an unhealthy diet. Someone in this house should eat healthy! Maybe she will inspire us too as well lol.
  3. I'm sooo excited and I just can't hide it lol. Ok we got a date for pickup! It's going to be Oct. 20th. Heart as Wendy (the breeder) calls her will be coming home! I think we are going to name her Sugar. She's gonna be mommies little sweets lol. My kids hate that lol. I do that to them too. But she will be 23 weeks old. She is actually ready right now, but we don't have her 100% paid till next week and than there aren't any flights coming in so we had to wait till the 20th. I can't wait!!! It's weird, I have been dreaming about her every day! I can't wait till she arrives! Oh the wait is painful! Here is a new pic of her. Wendy just sent it to me lastnight.
  4. Ok here is what the breeder just sent me on what she thought I should do and it makes sense really. And at the same time just like most of you have said, follow her lead! I would have her out of the cage. In her mind that will not be her cage or her toys and to be locked inside would be more stressful. just put her on top with toys and food and let her check out the place. Talk to her and pet her and then just take her lead. She should let you know what she is comfortable with.
  5. Thank you guys and gals! Your right I have been a nervous wreck! lol I don't think I was this nervous when I had my kids, but than again they didn't have a big beak to bite me either lol. My husband and I have wanted a AG ever since we saw one in the pet shop back home. He was the owners pet and we would go in there and visit him all the time. Every year around income tax time we would consider getting one. We wanted either a AG or a McCaw. After having the kids and doing some research we decided the Timneh was the one we should go with for our first FAMILY bird. We have a Quaker which to the rest of the family besides my husband does us no good lol. She talks up a storm but to handle her is impossible. Like I said we have wanted one for years and years now, and now that the kids are a bit older and don't need 24 hour care like 2 year olds, although sometimes the hubby still does lol, we decided we could devote our time and love to one of these sweet birds. I thank all of you for helping and being soo reasurring. It has put a lot of my worries to the side and I can be a more confident person which will just better her when she finally arives!
  6. Thank you again Dan, my stomach has been in knots since I read all of that cause I was worried we wouldn't be here enough and on top of it we ordered to small of a cage to start. I feel soo much better thank you! And love to take trips to the twilight zone, I sometimes do that often myself lol. Glad to have some ppl to go with lol.
  7. I am actually in the process right now of buying a Timneh Grey from Wendy! She is wonderful!!! I am soo glad I researched and talked to other breeders but when I talked to her she was just awesome! She answers any questions and she is sending me a pic ever week of my baby. Heart will be ready soo to come home I can't wait! If you want to message me go right ahead. But just wanted to let you know about my experience so far with Wendy I would highly recommend her! Hopefully Wendy won't mind, but here is a picture of her and Heart that she sent me a few weeks ago. She still has a few Timneh's available I know that. Hope I helped a little. I am new to this too lol. And we live in WV. She is in TX like carlylu said. But she will ship them to you.
  8. Thank you thank you thank you! I learned sooo much! But now I'm scared! lol I read that you really need to be home with them. My husband and I both work. The plus side to this is we work the same schedule week after week, it doesn't change. The only thing is I might have a longer weekend once in awhile cause I tend to work 4-10's but right now we are in overtime and working Friday's as well. It said that there is a min of at least 3 hours out of cage and 45 min approx of physical time spent. This is not a problem what so ever. I have the whole evening to be with my sugar. But just worried. I'm hoping cause she is soo young she will adapt to our schedule. The good thing that I learned was that the breeder is doing a very good job of weening her. I guess most breeders ship thier babies off at 12 old, Sugar/Heart will be 21 weeks old. So it's good that she's taking her time. And as for the cage it says a 36 x 24 at the min approx for a bird who will be spending most of the day in it. Ours that we have ordered is 32 x23. The breeder said this would be fine. But what do you guys think. Well actually I know what you'll say, on that one lol. Buy the biggest one you can afford. Well right now that is. But in a few months I can get a bigger one. Anyway I want to thank you for one being a card lol and the other for doing soo much research and helping me! If anyone can answer these other questions or actually worries great!
  9. We're a nutty bunch lol. But I think Dan and MrSpock have us beat lol. I'm loving this group lol. And thank you dblhelix!
  10. lol yes it is priceless, he always puts a smile on your face though lol
  11. I tried to look up the history of the AG's and couldn't really find what I was looking for. My husband and I wanted to know what purpose they served in the wild. How their speaking abilities helped/hurt them? What are their predators? Stuff like that. Can anyone fill us in or know where a site is that we can look at? Just trying to learn all we can about our little sugar that we still don't have yet Few more weeks!!
  12. Ok well than it's completely out of the question already lol. We were just curious. We didn't care if they got along anyway, cause like I said Molly is my husbands bird and we hope that our soon to be little TAG will be a family bird as long as we socialize her with all of us. But mainly I want her to be my bird hehehehe. So no need to answer any more if you don't want to cause it's out of the question for us to put them together. Just the last story has been wow lol. I don't want to harm either of them, even though I'm jealous of my husband's relationship with Molly lol. Thanks!!!
  13. Ok here's another question for ya'll. We have a Quaker that we've had for like 7 or 8 years and she hasn't been around other birds at all and is actually quit the litte b@!#$ lol. But guess they are known for that lol. She is very fond of my husband and no one else (also known for that lol) But my question is when I get my baby home and of course give her awhile to get used to all of us and everything can we have both birds on the same play stand? I don't think we can actually cause our Quaker doesn't play at all! We got her from an abused home and I don't think they played with her at all, but we didn't know if she would like the companion of another bird or not. And of course I don't want to put them together any other time like cages and such just to maybe play with each other. Don't know if it would come naturally to her or not being it's with another bird. If not it's not a big deal at all. I don't want to cause harm to either one of them just thought they might like the company of each other. I know my little TAG would cause she is very social now with other birds at the breeders. Ok I'm long winded enough lol. Let me know what you think.
  14. She is fully weened she was hatched on 5/10 so she is now 20 weeks old. I have been very worried as well with the shipping but we live in WV and there are no breeders around here within driving distance. Actually none in WV period that we found. One in Ohio all the way up by Lake Erie but they didn't have any and that would still be a 5 hour drive. I will e-mail the breeder too and ask her what she thinks as well cause really she is the only one who really knows her. She has already told me that she steps up really well and she will let her touch her anywhere and hold out her wings and everything. Of course I know this will take time for her to trust me to do the same things but just wasn't sure on if I put her in her cage or what right away. I thank all of you for your advice. I'll let you know what the breeder says as well. But again there were'nt any choices for us around here. Like my mother-in-law said when she came to visit us for the first time, she thought god made this perfect place on top of the mountain and than forgot where he placed it lol. We are soo far from everything! Ok will let you know what she says. Thanks again!
  15. Ok I'm back ya'll lol. Sorry it's been a little bit since I posted a question. But I came up with one being it's closer to getting my little girl! When we pick her up at the air port, we will of course bring her home which will be a bit of a drive, but do I put her in the cage that we bought for her right away? Do I put her on the play top? Do I put her in the cage and leave the door open so she can come out if she wants to? Do I leave her in there and let her get used to her surroundings and than try to hold her? Can anyone help me on what steps I should take. I want to hold her sooooooooooo bad but don't want to scare her. I don't even have her yet lol. We won't get her probaby until the middle of Oct. But just got to thinking that I know I am soo anxious on holding her, so what do I do? Thank you!!!!
  16. Ok I can load a picture in a post, what I can't seem to figure out is how to put a picture down where my signature goes or how to put a glitter name there. Can anyone help me on that? I tried to copy and paste it in my signature box and it won't give me the option to paste. Thank you!!
  17. Lol the pits of hell, sorry just made me laugh. I am very glad to hear that I won't be putting my new baby in any harm, alot of you seem to have the same drafty house I do. I cover my windows in the winter with plastic our living room does have 4 windows 2 on each side of the house so really can't get away from the windows but she will be in a corner of the living room right next to my chair actually. So hopefully she will be comfy. But I feel alot better now thank you all!
  18. Hey Judy yes we can't wait! We will have her in probably mid Oct or a little sooner. And yes I am the one from Mineral Wells area. And I'm soo glad that everyone didn't tear me down for asking that question. I was a little worried. I know they can't be near a draft just was worried cause our house doesn't stay a constant temp. Our Quaker had done fine but than again they are a much hardier bird. So just want to make sure she will be fine in her new home compared to her home she has now in TX.
  19. Ok I'm sure ya'll have a field day with me on this one, but I'm new and I'm still learning! I understand now from talking to someone else on the forum that wanting to show off my bird outside of my house is a no no for awhile until she is well trained. Understand that. Now my question is I have read you can't have your bird in a draft, understand that as well, but we don't live in a new house and although I can keep her away from the door and windows in the winter will this be good enough? We keep our house 65 at night and 71 or so when we are home. As for the summer time we try to keep it cool but we live in a hot box where the sun beats down on the house cause we live at the top of a mountain and out in a field. So am I basically in bad shape here? What temps can I keep the house and how hot can it get? I'm not saying it gets in the 90's in here, we plan on getting C/A next year and this probably won't be a problem anyway, but I just wanted to know what the house temps should be for all year round? What should I avoid? Like I said I know you'll probably laugh at me but I want to know your opinion. We don't live in TX or somewhere it is nice all year basically. We live in WV and need to know how we should keep the house. Thank you!! Oh here's a new pic of her, the breeder sends me one every Monday!
  20. Wow didn't know that Christina Thank you! I did just talk to Wendy yesterday and feel better about the whole thing. Guess just cause I'm a new mom (in the big bird world lol). Sometimes you just have to be careful. But Wendy seems to be a very very nice breeder and knows all her stuff lol! But thank you for the link I will go check it out!
  21. Yes She was DNA sexed already. Wendy has named her Heart and we thought we were going to keep that but I keep wanting to call her Sugar lol. Oh I am soooo excited. My kids think I'm weird lol.
  22. Thank you Falconeer I can't wait to get her!!!
  23. Since I am new to this whole thing I wanted to know if all this seems right to you. I have contacted a breeder "Wendy's Parrots" in TX and I am sending her money for a down payment to hold my bird Heart. I am than sending a little at a time (which I chose to do) until she is paid and ready to come home. She isn't quit weaned yet. She is 4 months old on the 10th. I put on the check the amount of the down payment and the remaining balance + shipping costs so I would have a receipt. It just makes me nervous cause it's not like I have this for pocket change ya know. So just wanted to know how breeders do this if this is normal. I talked to her on the phone today and she told me all about Heart and not to mention all the e-mails she has answered and pics she has sent. I guess I'm just being a nervous mother lol. But let me know what you all think. Thanks!!!
  24. Thank you Dave! I will go look now
