Ohh yes my math teacher! Would of liked to work on some numbers with him lol. Were you ever a teacher's pet?
-
That's what we are trying to look at making for our birds too Tari! You can make them big enough for the TAG's and Goffin's I'm sure can't you? My husband was searching the net to try to find some ideas. I'm surprised no one wanted them!

LOL I don't know Judy, I'll tell you she can squawk up a dang storm! And not soo much that, cause I mean after all we are getting a cockatoo lol, but she does it when you really really don't want her to! LOL So yes just like kids! When your on an important phone call lol and she can talk you know she can, cause she talks to you all day long! Than when the phone rings all she does is run back and forth on her perch yelling lol. I have heard Tari say though that the blue ones are a little calmer. Bad thing is hehehe Is the one thing I have been trying to teach Molly for the past 9 years she won't say! So I told my husband Jessie that I will get SweetHeart to say it to her! lol

Do your friends share your passion ?
Ronda477 replied to lovemyGreys's topic in Off-Topic Discussions
LOL Tracy I am soo far behind lol. But no none of my friends have any clue! I had friends in Ohio before I moved and they could care less, and the friends I have made since moving here to WV 6 years ago all think my Grey looks like a pigeon and my little baby cockatoo looks very ugly! I have to admit it is only a face right now that a mother can love lol. Especially when they are just a month old and no feathers, well so to speak, yet lol. Around here in Hick town lol, they raise chickens! And can not understand why we have these feathered things that don't lay eggs or are not for eatin in the house! And honestly we have never told the price on them lol. They would totally look at us funny I know they would! They have asked and we say ohh I don't really remember I think with shipping and gas and all of that maybe around 500. And even than they want to drop to the ground! So no I am soo thankful for all of you here to share the same feeling with lol. And to know that with all the trouble I have had with sweetheart that it was and still is kind of heart breaking to me. I know she'll come around eventually. But to tell my mom that my sweetheart won't play with me she thinks I'm talking about my husband lol. She can't stand birds and actually won't even come to my house unless I put them away! Silly people!!! -
Yes we have the 360 but we have yet to get the Rock Band, I wanted to get it for the kids at Christmas but they were sold out everywhere! I think it would be a good family thing to do just to be silly and have fun!

I like James Patterson, his crime books. I am reading Double Cross right now. As for movies, I like them all. We just got done watching "Awake" today. That was pretty good. We have over 200 movies in our library including movies still at the theaters hehehe..

I got one!!!! And you will all love this one! Wanda's dishwasher quit working so she called a repairman. Since she had to go to work the next day, she told the repairman, 'I'll leave the key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the counter, and I'll mail you a check . Oh, by the way don't worry about my dog Spike. He won't bother you. But, whatever you do, do NOT, under ANY circumstances, talk to my parrot!' 'I REPEAT; DO NOT TALK TO MY PARROT!!!" When the repairman arrived at Wanda's apartment the following day, he discovered the biggest, meanest looking dog he has ever seen. But, just as she had said, the dog just lay there on the carpet watching the repairman go about his work The parrot, however, drove him nuts the whole time with his incessant yelling, cursing and name calling. Finally the repairman couldn't contain himself any longer and yelled, 'Shut up, you stupid, ugly bird!' To which the parrot replied, 'Get him, Spike!' See - Men just don't listen! {Feel-good-0002006E}

Hey Lyric! I think I can help! You just go to their profile, for instance if you go to mine, you can see the last 10 blog entries there. It will show you there, and you can see their previous entries! Hope I helped!!

Muse do you know of any in WV? Or Southern Ohio?

Well good for you! Glad he is coming around! Keep us update in his improvements or if there is a lack of that too!

I am working on a sweetheart one lol, after I saw that one. But she isn't dancing she found herself in the bottom of her dish. She was on her play top and looked up and saw the bottom of her SS feed bowl and saw herself in it, it was funny.

Girls so sorry for the mis understanding! Like I said I truly look at everyone on here as family, we all have our opinions and we will all (hopefully) get past any differences in opinions. I sooo miss candles too! I used to burn and sell actually Partylite candles. I was told by the company that they are safe but than again they do put off a very good scent so who knows, but I did quit using them, guess we agree on one thing lol. Cheers girls!{Communicate-000200D5}

Glad you all liked it! I couldn't stop from laughing the way he was fluffing all up and dancing lol

I also see how posting opinions on here works. I guess I will no longer do so, being I actually get Karma taken away for posting. I was not saying by any means that is was wrong or right for taking teflon out of your home, No one I guess was seeing the point. That none of us are better than the other, but guess I'm 3 less Karma now than the rest. I will not offend anyone any longer. Sorry for posting. It was strictly an Opinion and sorry but everyone has one. And we shouldn't get punished for it.

That was exactly my point Shamelessmuse, that there are soo many things that are harmful for us let alone our birds that we take a chance with every day. Do you have a coffee maker? That has teflon on it Do you have stain resistant furniture or carpets? That has teflon on it. Do you have drip pans under your burners on the top of your stove, cause that gets hotter than the pan itself, That has teflon on it. Do you use the broiler part of your oven? That has teflon on it. Do you use a slow cooker? It has teflon in it. My point is this, that unless you can live 100% naturally which is very hard to do, you haven't taken ALL the TEFLON out of your house. I can give facts too. Just by saying you got rid of a couple of things that have it do you know for sure that everything is out? No. There are a ton of things that I had no idea of even thinking of such as my carpet or my coffee maker that have it them. So just getting rid of a pan set or a curling iron isn't all of them. And therefor still putting your bird at risk. I know it is harmful, but like I stated above how many people smoke? Or have any kind of plug in air freshner or spray air freshner? Do you have a fireplace in your home? Do any of you wear perfumes or cologne? Because my point is just that, unless you get rid of absolutely everything you are not innocent and doing 100% good for your bird like everyone would like to say. So are you going to get rid of all of it? And live 100% naturally. Even mineral spirits are hazardous to our birds lol. So things that are natural too lol. Like I said anyone and everyone can say they want what is best for your bird, me included, but my point is unless you get rid of all of the above than you aren't perfect. And again I'm not claiming to be! Like I had said with allot of teflon the cheapers ones anyway, they have a spray coating on them which is very bad for you and anyone or anything else. Your better sets have a 1/2 inch of baked in teflon that only releases fumes at above 536 degrees of heat. So I think depending oh your set they are better than others. I just don't like when others think they are better than another cause of what they have gotten rid of and they aren't putting their bird in harms way. But can you say that you got rid of all the above that do the same thing? If you can, than I completely applaud you and anyone who can or chose to. And please don't think this is completely towards one person, it's not at all, just no one is perfect and don't think we should act as if we are by getting rid of a couple of things. Glad though that your hair likes the new iron lol, it looks good in the pic! But won't write any more lol I got my point across, I am beating a dead subject now lol. Everyone will have their own opinion and yes facts are facts but you have to look at ALL of them not just one.
-
lmao! You didn't! I was going to go there, and I know Judy is a joking kind of person but didn't want to go there lol. Hugs to both of ya lol

{Feel-good-0002006E} Berna that was good! But sounds like yours isn't the only one who does it Jen so I wouldn't worry too much unless he starts chewing them clean off. Like I said I notice my Quaker doing it when she is preening herself come to think of it, but haven't noticed my SweetHeart doing it yet, wish she would cause they hurt!

Hello Jennifer and welcome to the forum! I really don't know about the nail biting, mine is only 9 months old, and maybe someone who has a re homed bird or just an older bird could answer your question on that. Is he pulling them out or just trimming them? I know my dog trims his own nails lol. But honestly I don't know about the grey doing it. We have a 12 year old quaker and I have noticed her biting her nails before, it may just be something they do when they get a little too long and we don't do it for them, are his nails real long? Have you taken him for a vet check? I know your vet can trim his nails and show you how if he will let you in the future. You need to introduce yourself in the welcome room so we can know a bit more about you! But welcome and hope to hear more from you and also Congrats on your new addition!

Hi Adelt and Congrats on your new family member! For one is your grey a Congo or a Timneh? I have a Timneh and did a bunch of reading on the differences before I chose which one to get, for the most part it seemed besides the size difference and coloring that the Timneh seemed to be more of a family bird, now I know that any bird at a young age can be socialized and pretty much made into a family bird, but a bird that is over 1 and has been in a pet shop they could either have just been cage bound or handled by everyone. But from the sounds of it your bird hasn't been handled by a whole lot or he would know to step up. From everything I have ever read the step up instruction we give our bird is something we should never give into. SweetHeart has been one big challenge for me. You can ask anyone on this board lol. She was 6 months when she came to us, and had a terrible flight to get to us, so we still to this day haven't had a cuddly bird or even one that will let us willingly let us pet her. So don't get discouraged from all the posts you'll read on how cuddly everyone's is, cause trust me they aren't all cuddly lol. Not to mention that they aren't really known for it anyway. But when you ask him/her to step up he must follow with that action even if he is growling at you, because if you don't than your grey will have the upper hand and know that it can get away with not doing what you ask, and the step up command is very useful for many reasons not to just hold our bird, but in case danger is in the way such as mine when she flies to another cage she can get a toe bit off, so the fact that I have never once let down on a step up command has helped save her toes lol. She knows I mean business when I say step up. Of course if yours doesn't know how yet which would be surprising if being a little over a year and he doesn't you need to be working with him on that. For now letting him come out of the cage is fine, but soon after he is settled in you will need to not let him come out on his own and get him from his perch inside the cage or he can become territorial on his cage. Meaning any little fingers such as your little childs could get bit very hard. And that just wouldn't be good. Not saying he will at all, but it happens very easily with birds that they get territorial over their cages. To see if he really knows how to step up, follow everyone's advice and put your hand in front of him and see if he will step up. If not try pushing up on his belly just a little while slightly pushing him back and he should step up, the last way to try is to almost make him feel like he is going to fall off of whatever he is standing on if he doesn't get on your hand by pushing your hand under his belly by his feet and don't stop till he gets on, it's a relatively quick motion but not to knock his feet out just quick enough where he thinks oh wow I'm gonna fall if I don't get on his hand. As far as the toy, leave it on an end table where he can see it than after a day or so move it closer to the cage, than on the outside of the cage, than inside the cage, but this can all take 2 weeks or longer/sooner depending on he is with it. Mine freaks out as well with new things, but I place them on her play top while she is on the top perch, she stays there for a little bit just looking at it, than she comes down and will explore it. Mine is only 9 months old though so being yours is a bit older and maybe hasn't had any toys or not much of them he will be afraid, but just show him them gradually, by putting it in a place he can see even when he's in his cage so he knows it means no harm. Sorry this is soo long winded but I soooo know what you are going through, and although some have gone through some things, I am still the only one after 4 months still trying to get my baby to let me touch her. So patience is the key! Little things come every day and just don't push him too much being you just got him the other day. You have to realize it may take a bit, but taking him out every day and talking to him is a big thing. Even if he will just let you take him out and put him on his play stand or top of cage to play that is good, that's what I have done with SweetHeart just so she knows I won't push her and that I'm safe. It's slowly paying off. So just take your time and Congrats again with your new member!

What a lovely little Elmo you have! Is that a Harley Davidson sign in the back? Well good luck on your votes girl and hope you hear something soon!

LOL Sorry, I am soo not against people that have it at all, I know it is a risk, but I am just saying there are a bunch of things out there that can harm our birds and yet ALL of us take risks with it, this one happens to be one of the things I take a risk on. I am sorry if I offended anyone, you all know me by now, but honestly I have never written a post like that before lol. So I hope there are no grudges.{Feel-good-00020114}

Our Quaker we got when she was 3, she was very abused when we got her. She did talk pretty good than and now that she is 12 she is even better. She says many phrases. She is the only one we have though besides our TAG right now. But she seems to pick up on what she wants to, the things I try to get her to say she won't say lol.

Well I know it's not a personal opinion on if it will hurt them or not, it is however a personal opinion on if you believe it will hurt them or not and if you want it in your own home. I for one have had probably the worst scare out of anyone on this board with a pan over heating when I was not home none the less because of a cat jumping up on the stove and hitting the ignite button and turning the gas on the stove which then burned the pan. I came home to all fire alarms going off and a smoke filled house! My quaker to my surprise was still alive. After everything I had read I thought for sure she would be gone. The only thing from actually starting a true fire was the lid on the skillet was still on it. But you can ask 50 different people the same question I and I think we would give all kinds of answers. This was written by a DVM- http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=15&cat=18&articleid=2874 If you are going to get rid of your teflon than you can't say that without going all the way and getting rid of all the other things that have teflon in them. Such as:Non-stick pots, pans, and other cookware Stain repellants Space heaters and heat lamp covers Non-stick irons and ironing board covers Hair dryers Non-stick oven drip pans and broiler pans Non-stick griddles, woks, waffle makers, electric skillets, tortilla presses Non-stick hot air corn poppers, coffee makers, bread makers Non-stick slow cookers, roasters, pizza pans Ceramic cooking stoves, coffee makers, carpet & furniture that has stain resistant protection on it I do believe that if you have a $1,000 set of cookware it is not as harmful as the cheap non stick that you buy at Walmart and such. The cheaper versions actually peel off. That isn't good for ourselves much less our birds. Other hazards include feeding bad things that aren't really healthy to our birds, or people that smoke. Is that not harmful? Anything we do in our lives for the most part is harmful, if it's to us or our birds. None of us lead a completely safe life. We don't smoke, we don't eat a bunch of junk nor do we feed our birds a bunch of fruits for the sugar content, but we do however cook and never unsupervised with non stick cookware. The dangers come from not cooking with oil or butter. And the main danger from over heating them. But for one, we always use butter or oil. And than again if you look deep enough oil if you have a fryer gets pretty hot, did you know that the fumes hot oil puts off can kill a bird? There are just soo many things out there that are bad for not only us, but for our birds, and that is where I say it is a personal opinion to have in your life these items if you chose. And honestly if you are not around to watch the food you are cooking than you shouldn't be cooking at that moment anyways. We never leave the kitchen when cooking. The stove burning something is a huge hazards not just to a birds health if it is teflon, but personally I have children and the thought of the house going up because I wasn't watching a pan would be much worse than anything I could imagine. So I can say it will never happen to me on that part, and as far as the skillet going up again we have 100% taken care of that problem and remove all items from stove and all knobs before leaving the house. It's just a rule for us now because of what happened. We are truly lucky we even had a home to come home to much less our animals still being alive. I certainly do not want to start anything with anyone, I like everyone on here as a family member, but I do think depending on how you cook and how good of a grade of pan you are cooking in makes a huge difference. That this is strictly my OPINION and that is all, take it with a grain of salt. All in all we want what is good for our birds, but don't lead perfect lives. And I won't pretend that I do. Because I do good things and I also take risks with everything I do including raising my children. Life is one big risk there is no book for it.
