I saw these the other day after I dropped the kids off at school. I sent them to my mother in law and realized that not everyone gets to see them every day like we do. They were taken from inside the car so didn't come out real well. But thought I would share. They are very young too.

Yes they are very pretty! Not sure I have ever even really seen pics of that breed before. Very nice MammaFawkes! -
Cool thanks Heather I will check them out tomorrow with the kids, they loved them!

LOL stress, than mine would for sure be a picker lol. We have 5 dogs, 3 cats, 3 other birds, 2 children and hubby and myself. Hon I'm sure he'll be just fine, just give him love and the nutrition he needs and he'll love you forever! Like I said he is probably just testing the waters. But yes read up and there is nothing wrong with what you are doing. At least you are taking the time now to read and learn. That is very good! I know it is heart breaking when they bite at you trust me, but you do have to show that he can't boss you. Not by being mean, but by being firm and not backing down. Try your hardest not to show any emotion, they pick up on that very easy. Good Luck to you hon! I'll check back tomorrow and I'm sure others will answer as well.

OMG girls! I at first didn't see anything about poop and couldn't figure out why it was in the title. Than I read down and now I know why. Funny thing is the only reason I even looked is cause no matter how mad I get anyone can say "poop" and I bust out laughing. It's like the magic word lol. Hubby can make me mad and than he'll just say it and I can't help it, it's just the way it sounds. I have always been that way. LMAO ok sorry that had nothing to do with this post Tari soo sorry! I can't stop laughing poop and poop stances Oh my ya'll are just too funny!{Feel-good-0002006E}

Well hon I'm sure others will be along shortly to give more advice, but all Gray's are different. My SweetHeart is 9 months old, we got her when she was 6 months old. I still can't have that lovey little Grey yet either. It takes time and patience. I have made little steps and you just have to look at it as every little positive like him sitting with you now is a good thing. My quaker clucks, but I haven't heard my Grey do that yet. I'm sure they do not saying it isn't normal. Mine doesn't like to be handled much at all. Some are like that. Than some are very cuddly, but you are right. They are known to be independent somewhat, but it all starts right now in these stages. So work with him every day and he will get used to the idea of being with you. I would be very careful though with him on your shoulder. I have read stories before of a woman that hand raised her cockatoo and had him for 10 years and never in a million years did she ever think he would bite her, but one day he lost his footing on her shoulder and took a very good chunk out of her face that needed a bunch of stitches. So just be very careful! Just try to spend more time with him every day and keep that up! He'll come around even if he's not the cuddly type he'll at least hang out with you in time. But trust me 3 months later I'm still working on my own, so I know how you feel. Just be patient, little things every day will start showing you how it pays off.

Wow I completely agree with everyone else besides Tubescreamer. I do break horses. I have horses right now that have been beaten and abused from people like you! That think the rough way is the best way and brute force will make them do what you want. It will out of fear and than people like me have to fix them! I have a horse now that is 22 years old and completely afraid of men. How can you say this is good? Just like a child you can't beat them to make them listen or shove a finger down their throat cause they didn't obey you. That is just pure abuse. Someone should report you.
-
Well they are very known for growling, does it resemble that at all? Usually they kind of do this as a warning before a bite and I only say usually lol. But that is very normal for him to do that before he bites. Being he is young and hasn't done that before with you, he may just be like a regular kid and seeing what he can get away with, and what actually makes you back off. If you want him to step up than make sure you make him, don't back off just cause he warned you. I know it may hurt, but you can't give in and give him the upper hand. He will learn that even though he doesn't want to do things sometimes he has to. It's really only for their own safety. Not to be mean to the birds, but for instance you need him to step up right away because you feel something is going to harm him, he needs to know there is no debating the subject he has to step up cause your not going to back off. It is a upset sound, but like I said if you haven't changed anything he's just testing you most likely being he is soo young. He is learning how to train you, the idea is though to train him.

Lisa he may be doing what some breeders do with their birds. If you go to this link and watch my little cockatoo you will see what I mean. Did you just get him? As much as it may hurt try not to show any emotion if he does bite down hard. They will think this is funny or see that you back off and keep doing it. We don't ever teach our birds to bite just they know from instinct to do so when they are scared or nervous. Have you changed anything? Is there a reason he may be upset at you? do you have any more information on what else he has been doing or like after I did this or put this in his cage he started biting? Does anything trigger? He's very young and may just still be getting used to everything. I don't know how long you have had him. Hope to hear more.

Post edited by: Ronda477, at: 2008/02/23 05:39

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown... I thought for the ones who didn't know or just an easy place to come and find it when needed that this should be here somewhere on the forum. I hope all of you don't mind, but for someone who has encountered a loss of any kind I think should read this with the hopes that it will put their mind at a ease just a little. And for all those that are reading this for that reason, my thoughts and my heart truly go out to you!

Wow yes that baby looks allot more than just 7 weeks. My baby cockatoo, I know totally different is still getting feathers and he is 5 weeks old today. They do grow fast I know that for a fact though. As far as cage goes, I don't know where you live. That wouldn't be a bad idea, just have to make sure he could not get out for sure! You wouldn't want him to just fly away, that would be very sad. And you would want to make sure they had a place to get out from the rain. As long as you don't live where it gets too cold than it probably would be very nice for him. As for the weaning I couldn't give advice on that, but for the wing clipping, you do what is the safest and best for your conditions and your bird. Everyone has different circumstances and has to adjust for one reason or another. So if you feel your bird is in danger than you should clip. If you can bird safe your house than try that as well. It just depends on what you have around such as windows or dogs or anything they can get hurt on. You need to take everything into consideration and than make your own decision on that. I for one clip. I have way too many windows in the house and other cages that she was able to fly to and could end up hurting herself or even worse death. So I clipped. But totally up to you. He is a very pretty bird though, and they are not that common! Keep in touch with all of us and update us on everything!

yvette I think your Gray is doing great! He is taking food from your hand and he is making his noises. He's just settling in. My SweetHeart is only 9 months old and I got her when she was 6 months old and can still not pet her willingly. So just give it time. Some of them do not like to be pet at all. Will he step up for you? Does he come out of the cage? And yes whistling the pretty bird sound makes sense hon. It's normal like Lisa said he may just be practicing. Your a new mommy and of course your learning new things, just remember that patience is the key. He may never want to be held or cuddled or even pet. That comes with any bird just like mine. But they are still lovely to have around and are very interesting in the sounds they make. Mine is still learning and of course don't think there is an age limit to their learning lol. Yours will pick up more sounds in time and of course you will hear more of the ones he knows when he settles in more. I'm sure being in a pet store he heard all kinds of sounds and people talking. It would be interesting to hear what will come out of him lol. And yes every time I say something to SweetHeart she shakes her head afterwards. I think they are just taking it all in lol. And just to let you know, There are NO SILLY questions here!!! Keep us updated!!!

Oh trust me, she puts up with allot lol.

This is from my yard lol. This is ducky & fuzzy. Duckies mate was eaten last year by raccoons. So he's lonely, we will have to fix that this spring though;) And fuzzy is a cochin bantam chicken. We raised her from a little egg. Sorry it's kind of muddy. It is winter in WV. Oh who are we kidding it's always muddy here in WV lol.

Post edited by: Ronda477, at: 2008/02/22 23:56
