Yes, Klaus likes grapes, but I don't overdo it. One grape per day when I have them in the house...
  2. I don't bathe Klaus. I've heard conflicting info as to whether they really need a bath or not. During the summer on hot days, I would put out a large, shallow bowl of water, but he never did more than peck at it a little. He does bathe himself in his water dish from time to time (as best he can, of course it's not big enough for him to get in).
  3. Well, Chris it sounds like you care about your bird a lot! That's awesome... I really like LovieChick's advice. My experience with Klaus (I've had him since July 4th) has taught me that patience is a must. These birds cannot be rushed into anything. I had to chuckle to myself when I read the title to the post (Stepping Up Chaos). Here's what Klaus thinks of everyone in the house: I'm "top dog" - he adores me and I can pretty much touch him and pick him up whenever I want. My husband and son are not tolerated well, and will very likley be bitten if they try to screw with him. My brother in law, Eric, (who is staying with us temporarily) is somewhat tolerated. He will go to Eric, but only with a fair amount of chaos. Lots of fussing but not a lot of bites like he does with my husband and son. Best of luck to you and Harriet (love the name by the way)...
  4. Hi, Chris! Welcome aboard... You are in the right place for tons of info on greys, and some very nice people!
  5. Hi, Jamie - I guess the most important thing to remember is that your bird will probably be nervous. Give him plenty of time to adjust to his new surroundings. Also I was told by my breeder not to overdo attention during the first few days because the bird will expect it every day and maybe have psychological problems when the novelty wears off and your household suddenly stops revolving around him. Decide beforehand how much time you can reasonably devote to having him out of his cage and giving him your attention, then try to stick with the schedule each day. Also, my breeder gave me a book on greys which I read pretty extensively (I didn't know about this forum back then!). I found that helped, too. Don't be shy - there's no such thing as a dumb question! Fire away with your questions as you think of them - the members of this forum are outstanding and will help as best they can! That's my 2 cents... Good luck & welcome here!
  6. Klaus has taught me that I am still trainable!
  7. Hi, and welcome... Cute baby! =)
  8. Hi, and welcome! Yes, you sure have me beat as far as sheer number of pets (& kids!). We love your dad & I know we'll enjoy having you here, too!
  9. Hi thanks for the link to the bird site - I've been sitting here for the past half hour checking out the funny vidoes! Welcome...
  10. Oh my gosh, how CUTE! I love the name Daisy for a girl dog. This one doesn't look like a Daisy, though. How about Penelope? You could call her Penny for short. Or Chloe? That's nice and refined. She looks sort of refined. My son says Chi Chi. But that sounds like a Chihuahua to me... Anyway she's adorable...good luck naming her!
  11. Thanks again for letting me vent and for backing me up!

    Green beans

Now, I've tried peas (the nice, bright green frozen ones not those awful ones from a can) and he didn't want them. I'll have to try again, though...it's been awhile.
  13. Congrats! We're glad you're here...welcome!
  14. Great job! I'm sure before long you'll be getting along famously.

    Green beans

Klaus loves 'em! Sat on his "dreaded" play stand (conveniently situated next to the dinner table) and ate one after another while we enjoyed our dinner. They were the French style, and they were nice and warm. Sorry if I'm boring you guys every time Klaus eats something new...I'm excited, and figure I might inspire newbies that are newer than me!
  16. Welcome! We're glad you're here...
  17. Welcome, glad you're here! 00000000000000000000000000000000000000 Sorry, that was my bird typing there... :woohoo: My baby was weaned when I got him, so unfortunately I have no advise on hand feeding...
  18. Good job, Dan! Way to go...
  19. Yes, let's hear it for our armed forces. The tremendous sacrifices they make should never be forgotten, or taken for granted.
  20. Aaaaw, sounds like things are going great! Good job!

    talking

I have heard that whistling back is bad if you want them to talk. When Klaus wolf-whistles, I say thank you. When he does the "Calling the dog" whistle, I yell that I'll be right back. Oh my gosh, this little guy has got me trained!

  24. Yes, Dan - I think you hit it on the head. It's hard to let someone know you don't like something they're doing without making it sound like it's them you don't like. Sandra - he does work now, but he's coming off a stretch of unemployment, so he's trying to get on his feet. As tempting as it is to charge rent, we'd rather he save his money so he can get into his own place all the sooner!
