  1. That's outstanding! I am not good at building things, but I might show it to my dad and see if he can make Klaus one. He's retired and has always been great at building things. Thanks! Hey, my mom is traveling to the UK - she leaves Friday and will be there for two weeks. I'm very excited for her!
  2. Again, you guys are great! After posting this I stumbled around a bit and found that I could have searched for posts on this exact same subject. Thanks for your patience... Am I nuts, or is having a grey like having an extra kid? For those of you who have kids, I'm sure you read parenting books & magazines, but in the end, you do what works for you & your child. Having a parrot seems to be going the same way. Though it's only been about 2 months, so I'm very much a rookie...
  3. Well, I'm so glad I posted in the Welcome Room! You guys aren't kidding when you say "Welcome." Ummm, pictures of Klaus? That would require me knowing how to do that... Very low tech over here! I did try to catch him with my cell phone camera this afternoon ... he went for a "doggie ride" on one of my dog's backs. Alas, too late, it takes me a min of 15 minutes to figure out the cell phone camera! =) Thanks for the warm welcome ... I'm sure I'll be back here every day!
  4. The man we bought our grey from said not to cover the cage. I'm hearing different opinions on that now. I tried to cover Klaus last night (for the first time since he's been with us (almost 3 months)), and he did not like it. It was around 9:30 pm, he appeared to be asleep, so I slipped a little blanket over the cage, and he jumped down and started doing his "I want out" routine. After I took the cover off, he went back to sleep. Do you all cover your cages? Is it really a matter of the bird's preference? Thanks!
  5. Just wanted to say "Hello" to everyone. I'm not good at all this "on line" stuff, but having this bird has got me fascinated and I can't get enough talking to others and reading what others have to say about African greys! My bird was hatched on March 9, 2007. We brought him home on July 4. We're not even sure he's a boy, but we're assuming (until/unless) we find out differently. His name is Klaus Baudelaire (named after a character in Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events"). He is very sweet, and prefers me over anyone in the house. So far he sounds a lot like R2D2 from Star Wars (lots of beeps, clicks, and whistles). He also does a "wolf whistle" which is hilarious. It's how he greets us when we get home, and how he calls to me when I go into another room. Well, that's probably enough for now! Look forward to hearing from you guys!
  6. Does anyone have a favorite place (near Detroit, Mich) or online where they get goodies (food, toys, etc) for their grey? I really, really want a nice stand for my little guy, but they seem pretty expensive. I'd also appreciate any tips on "home made" stands. Thanks!
