1. Greg - If you like sci fi and fantasy, have you tried Stephen King's Dark Tower series? Good stuff, man!
2. Yeah! My favorite topic again! I read about a book a week, but here are a few that stand out: "Devil in the White City" - can't remember who wrote it but it's about the World's Fair in Chicago. Can't remember what year it took place in, but it was long ago (late 1800's - early 1900's I think). Awesome! True story...There's a serial killer involved while the fascinating tale of the Fair is told. As the jacket promised, tough to believe it wasn't fiction. "The Many Aspects of Mobile Home Living" - I think the author's last name is Clark. Just a fun, different read. "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time" - again drawing a blank on the author. Written through the eyes of an autistic boy. Modern day "Sound and the Fury." Couldn't put it down! "Memoirs of a Geisha" - no author again. Right. Sorry. If you look up the titles on Amazon or some such, I'm sure you'll find it! "An Innocent Man" by John Grisham. True story. Outrageous! "Freakonomics" by Levitt & Dubner. Gets ya thinking! I could go on and on...
3. Well, I haven't checked it out myself, but it might be worth a try to go to Petco.com if you don't have a Petco store near you. Maybe they're clearing out some old stuff to make room for new?
4. The other night I offered Klaus a piece of my baked potato, which he started happily chowing down on... Then he noticed I had a couple of scraps of steak on my plate and tried that out too. It was funny, I think he played with the steak more than ate it, but it's always amusing to see him try new foods...
5. Yes, Klaus does that. During his mellower moods, he'll sit on my shoulder & rub his neck into my neck. And I think he tried to regurgitate for me the other day. It certainly looked like he was about to vomit (but didn't). Then I realized he was probably trying to tell me he loves me. I hope. :side:
6. So, I'm at Petco today, picking up food & toys, and I see that a playstand I've had my eye on is on clearance. Regular $99, on sale for $49. Soooo, I nabbed it. But here's the best part: When the lady rang it up, it came up $23 something. We were both astonished, but she checked that the right item was what was scanned, shrugged, and sent me on my way. I RAN to the car for fear they would catch the mistake (if that was what it was). Yeah! Klausie has a playstand now! He's not crazy about it (it takes him an average of 2.3 days to get used to something). But I'm so happy to have an extra place for him to hang out...
7. One of my fave restaurants is Salvatore Scallopini. It was there that I was introduced to red sauce and Alfredo sauce existing on the same plate (manicotti - some w/red & some w/Alfredo). Wow! That is awesome...Now I make my lasagne that way, one or two layers with Alfredo. There are some local (non-chain) places in my little neighborhood, one is the Villa (another Italian restaurant) and also Cloverleaf Pizza (the best, I don't even want to hear it! You have not had good pizza until you've had Cloverleaf. You had to get me started, Joe! Now I'm starving...
8. Ok, stop reading if you've heard this one before! Klaus has always been a fan of my earrings (smallish, silver hoops). I've always been able to wedge my finger between his beak and my earring, thereby keeping earring nibbles relatively harmless (and painless). A few days ago, though, he nabbed one of them REAL good. After noticing for a few days that my earlobe still hurt, I decided to take the earrings out & give my ears a rest. I popped the first one out and noticed that instead of a perfect circle, it was bent into a strange oval shape. When I tried to get the other one out, I couldn't! Klaus had pulled the wider "band" part of the earring right into the piercing hole. My brother in law had to get it out for me. Ouch!
9. Welcome! We look forward to hearing more from you...
10. Yes, I would give this bird LOTS of space. I always remember, these birds live 50-60 years, so 5 days, or 5 weeks, or 5 months is not very long for them to take getting used to something. (Just an opinion of course, I'm a rookie myself so what do I know?) So, just a theory. Hopefully the cage has little doors so you can get the food & water dishes without disturbing her too much & also a slide-out bottom so you can clean as well without "invading" her space. Good luck to you!
11. Oh, and thank you for fixing my original post, Talon!
12. Yeah, I thought it was a little impersonal at first. But I do think it's very important for them know that we remember they are there and we want them to come home! Whether we agree with the military action or not, our troops are the best anyone could ask for and they make me proud to be an American.
13. Aaawww, thank goodness you're doing what you can for the little guy...
14. Welcome, and yes, I agree with everyone else about which room to put him in. I think if you put him in the office, he'd just be calling to you all the time anyway. I know when I leave the room, even just for a sec, Klaus starts calling immediately. Anyway, back to "Welcome" - you are going to find this an awesome site. We're glad to have you here!
15. Yeah, I vote for both! But, again, I don't know how much room you have and probably 100 other details that I haven't thought of. I agree with Benny, though, they would likely keep each other company when home alone.
16. I work for Xerox, and I received an e-mail at work telling us a way we can thank U.S. troops. It's very easy to do if anyone would like to try - Just go to http://www.letssaythanks.com/Home1280.html

Post edited by: Talon, at: 2007/10/19 02:26
17. Karma for you - that was great! I'm all choked up...
18. Great job! Don't worry about boring us ... lots of us are new, and the old pros are very nice, and actually probably enjoy thinking back to the old days when they were nervous, too...
19. Yep, bottle caps & the whole bottle are always good. I also wash out used yogurt cups & margarine tubs. They make good toy holders as well as toys. When Klaus is going for a pen, if it has a cap I let him have the cap as I'm taking the pen away.
20. I'm glad I read that! I thought only the people running the site could give or take Karma.
21. Ow. My head hurts. This is why there are no pictures of me or Klaus. I do intend to get up to speed, though! Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced, super easy to use digital camera? Thanks!

Yes, I have found that Klaus' interest shoots up 1000% if he sees us eating something. I often let him hang out on my shoulder or on the table when I'm eating and more often than not he wants to try some, too.
23. Looks great, Ronda! I'm jealous; it's nicer than Klaus' cage...
24. Hello, and welcome! Cute photos, thanks for sharing!
