  1. Please don't worry that you're annoying anyone here. If they haven't kicked ME off yet, they'll put up with anybody!
  2. Mr Spock cracks me up... Welcome, Flint! Wait that's your bird... What do you call yourself, Flint's owner? Feel free to pick our brains. Just be forewarned, it's Monday, so in my case it'll be slim pickins!
  3. Hi, and welcome! We're glad you're here, and look forward to hearing more from you...
  4. My breeder allowed a window of time to take Klaus in for a check up. I think it was between 2 - 4 weeks, I can't remember now. So from my perspective 15 days doesn't seem that short.
  5. Well, I will have to remember to jot all these author's names down before I head back to the library! Discovering a new author is always a good thing! Thanks, all!
  6. Hee-hee! I like Dan's response about knowing how to slay all the various monsters from watching all the movies. That's awesome...
  7. Great story! Reminds me a little of bedtime with Klaus, except we don't have music. But there is a big ritual to it, lots of pets & talking softly. Very much like putting a baby child to bed.

    Aaawww! Thanks for sharing!
  9. Klaus loves to be petted on the head & neck. He will tolerate touches elsewhere, but it's not his favorite. Our bedtime routine is that I turn the lights down, stand in front of his cage with him talking softly about it being bedtime, and give him lots of extra pets on the head & neck. The whole routine takes about ten minutes. He's spoiled rotten!
  10. Yes, I agree. Let her feel safe in her cage. Leave the door open if it's a convenient time for her to be out and see if she comes out on her own. From my limited experience (I've had Klaus about 4 months) I know that patience is key. Good luck!
  11. Well, my scariest movie of all time was The Exorcist. I saw it at about age 12 on network TV, so it was pretty cleaned up, and had nightmares for what seemed like forever. It still scares me! Then, to make matters worse, I was stupid enough to read the book. And was scared to death all over again... I can't say that I truly believe in ghosts/spirits, because I've never had any real life experience with anything like that. But I have an open mind. Many claim to have had experiences, so who knows?
  12. Something wicked this way comes, people! It's almost Halloween ... What scares you? C'mon, spill it! Scary movie? Scary book you've read? Do you believe in ghosts/spirits? Have you ever seen or sensed a ghostly presence? Moo-hoo-hoo-ha-ha-ha....
  13. I can't believe I went my whole life adoring Italian food and only recently discovered "the pink sauce." That pizza idea sounds outstanding, I will have to try it!
  14. Thanks for sharing ... Mozart sounds very similar to Klaus. I'm his favorite human for now, and he pretty much goes nuts when he sees me. I recently purchased a playstand for him because (let's face it) it's a little inconvenient to have him on my shoulder every waking moment. So, I was going to do dishes and I moved the playstand into the kitchen, maybe 3 feet from where I was working. He reluctantly went on the stand, the proceeded to "peep peep" at me in the most pitiful way the whole time I was doing the dishes. Mind you, there's toys & fave treats (walnuts & grapes) on the playstand, but he just wants his mommy...
  15. I do have a sense of humor, and I'm glad you do, too, Scrohan. I would definitely go with denim slip covers - they look good, easy to wash, and durable!
  16. Adorable pictures! Thanks, and welcome... My bird was weaned when I got him, so unfortunately I don't have any weaning tips...
  17. I don't use rope perches or toys inside the cage, because Klaus is home alone for 4-5 hours out of the day. I'm afraid he'll get stuck somehow and hurt himself. I have a rope perch on the outside of his cage, though, that he can play on when we're home.
  18. Klaus has recently expanded his whistle repertoire to include the whistle you would use to call a dog. I asked my husband if he taught him that, and he said no. But we do have two dogs and if my husband lets one in the house and the other doesn't show up right away, he whistles for the straggler. So, Klaus must have got it from listening to my husband do it every day. So, now we have the wolf whistle, the "c'mere dog" whistle, and sometimes a combination of the two.
  19. I read the title of the post and thought, "Ha! Hahahahaha..." Oh, this poor person...
  20. Congratulations! It sounds like things are going well. Tank sounds similar to my bird (Klaus) in that he loves to be with me (on me). He has a cage (of course) and a play stand, but for the most part he sits on my shoulder. Everyone is super helpful here, so feel free to post if you have any questions! We look forward to hearing more from you...
  21. Hey, a fellow Michigander. Or is it Michiganian? Whatever... Hi! Welcome...
  22. Val - I am addicted to books. There are worse things to be addicted to, right? If I don't have something to read, and the library's closed, I'll grab a paperback from the drugstore. I was suprised at "Memoirs of a Geisha." Those ladies went through hell! I had no idea... Lisa - I have read most of Patterson's and Sandford's stuff, never a bad bet. And I love Kay Scarpetta, she's my hero! And, yes, Evanovich provides nice, easy entertainment. I will definitely check out Sue Monk Kidd. I've heard of her but haven't had the chance to read one of her books yet. Thanks for the tip!
  23. Thanks for jumping in guys, and for putting up with my random thoughts... Oh, another thing that makes me smile (among thousands): I cannot resist a marching band. Any marching band. LOVE it!
  24. I'm glad you guys chimed in ... I wasn't 100% positive it was ok for him to have steak, but since he played with it more than ate it, I wasn't too concerned...
  25. So, I'm driving to work today, half asleep, in the dark and a song by U2 came on and I found myself smiling. In such an unlikely scenario for a smile. That got me thinking about all that remains good in life despite the bad. I thought it would be nice to share the little everyday stuff that makes us happy (besides our birds)...
