  1. That's a really nice stand. I've had one for Klaus for about a month now, and it's still a 50/50 proposition whether he'll go on it.
  2. Hi, and welcome! We look forward to hearing more from you...
  3. Thanks Laurie, you sound like a Michigan gal...my birth place Yep, born & raised here. I have a tiny understanding of winter compared to what you know in Alaska!
  4. Hi, and welcome! We look forward to seeing you here!

    Favorite Cereal

Lusya, you're not silly. You don't need to prepare Honey Bunches of Oats. It's regular cold cereal. Klaus will eat whatever type of cereal I'm eating, which is mainly frosted shredded wheat. He eats the wheat part and drops the part with sugar. What a good boy, huh? Too bad mommy doesn't like it without the sugary part! I think cereals on the whole are great, just watch out for overly sweetened ones or anything with chocolate. As far as milk, Klaus eats right out of my bowl (lucky me, to think there was a time he was too shy to do that!). So he does get a teeny bit of milk, but if I try to give him his own piece of dry cereal on the side, he doesn't want it. He wants what's in my bowl. Hopefully that isn't too awful. I haven't noticed him having any potty problems so I'm figuring the little drops he gets aren't hurting him... I think Cheerios are another good choice because of their size & shape and they are pretty nutritious. I offered Klaus Cream of Wheat before, and he didn't want it...I'll have to try it again.
  6. Oh, yeah! Monkey. You little monkey. (When he makes monkey noises, or climbs around upside down in his cage.) Ducky, when he makes ducky noises.
  7. Let's see...sometimes we call Klaus "Klausie" or "Klausie-bear." Then there's baby, baby birdie, precious, "My dahling go-jus poppet!" (saw a grey saying that on YouTube and would LOVE it if Klaus would say that, so I say it all the time to him). Little birdie. Sweety. The list goes on & on! Fun post, thanks for throwing that up there! Karma for you...
  8. Klaus is only 9 months old. He is clipped, but can get around a little bit. Just within this past week he started actually landing on things as opposed to just hitting a wall. He flew from the floor and caught the side of his cage with his feet (safe landing! yeah!) and also went from the floor to my son's leg (thank goodness my son was wearing jeans!). This is all with no instruction from me. So, I think Mazy will learn on her own in time, too. Dave's advice makes a lot of sense, too!
  9. Hi, and welcome! Very cool picture (no pun intended) with the Alaskan wilderness in the background...
  10. Yeah, I heard on the radio the other day that Dick Cheney's approval rating is at 18. People. Not percent. Hee-hee!
  11. Klaus does the whistle you'd do to call a dog when I leave the room, then does the wolf whistle when I come back in. It's hilarious that he does his whistles in context! When I'm out of the room, I call back to him that I'll be right back. Yes, I've heard the the consistency of when they get out (i.e. letting them out the same time every day) can actually be more important than the length of time.
  12. Ok, ok! You got my karma for today, Joe! Geez, what some people will do... No seriously that was wonderful of you to do. I would like to throw my hearty "thanks" in there, too to all of you both working on and participating in this wonderful forum!
  13. Hi, and welcome hobbo! Klaus has mood swings, too. I think it's normal. Um, I hope it's normal. I've had Klaus for almost 5 months and it seems I can expect something a little different every day!
  14. JD - I know where you are coming from, I think. I lost two great people in my life to drunk driving. Wherever I go now, I'm the designated driver (yipee) and I get so mad at people who urge me to go ahead and have "just a little" even though I'm driving. I'm with you - it doesn't just happen to other people; it literally became the worst case scenario for two (not one!) but two people I knew and loved. Thanks for posting that.
  15. If he's resisting that much, he probably just doesn't want to at the moment. I am soooo lucky, Klaus comes out of his cage if the door is open. That's all I have to do is open the door. He SO much prefers being out to being in. Now, when he MUST step up (i.e. it's bed time and I have to tuck him in so I can go to bed) I put my finger where it needs to be and put my other hand behind his butt so he can't back away.
  16. Klaus loves people to be around. But not everyone can touch him. He doesn't attack unprovoked, but will let others know that they shouldn't be touching. He is at his happiest when more people are around and that's when he's most likely to play independently.
  17. When he's out of the cage, he might be too interested in what there is to explore out there to be bothered with you. Klaus doesn't have one set mood. Some days he wants to be petted so much I'm afraid we're going to wear out his feathers. Other days he'd rather not. Some days he's completely mellow, on others he's frisky. Hopefully I'm not wrong, but I figure they've got their moods, just like we do...
  18. I just use hot water and a scrubby sponge. I found out the scrubby sponge does a good job on my leather couch when I discover poop that had previously gone unnoticed (and is now dried). The couch is fairly trashed anyway (from the dog) so I figured, "What the heck?" I got the scrubby sponge wet with hot water and gently rubbed it on the leather couch. Viola! Took it off without scratching the couch...

  20. I love the picture with the bird "eating" your glasses.
  21. Aw, that's so cute! Cookie sounds like a great bird who is in great hands!
  22. Hi, and welcome! You're in the right place for advice on greys as well as really nice people...
