  1. That's exciting! We look forward to hearing more...
  2. I always try to remember these birds often live to be 50-60 years old. They have all the time in the world to get used to something, and they sure will take their time! Patience is key...Good luck to you!
  3. Hi, and welcome! Thanks for the cute pictures!
  4. Klaus has the big colorful "car keys" that I think every baby gets a set of. Also, a plastic ring with cloth monkeys hanging off it. And another "teething" ring with different balls & circles on it. I've also given him alphabet blocks and Lincoln Logs. But someone on here said that the Lincoln Logs are treated with something that might not be good for birds, so I haven't given him any Lincoln Logs since.
  5. I agree with not pushing the issue of putting him into the water just yet. I think just being in the room with you while you shower exposes him to some nice humidity that he probably needs right now. You're in Virginia, right? Probably not as cold as here in Michigan but I think it's possible you're running your heat, which makes for some very dry conditions.
  6. On Friday during the day when my husband was home, Klaus fell off his perch and my husband was concerned that he really rang his bell! He took him out, held him and comforted him for about an hour, then he needed to start getting ready for work. So, he put some treats in Klaus' dish to entice him in there and Klaus went in (happily, to eat the treats). Friday night when I got home, Klaus seemed a little more "hyper" than usual but I didn't think too much of it. It's now Sunday and Klaus has been fine ever since. Learning to whistle the Andy Griffith song (getting a little better at it, the more he practices:) ) and exploring his new swing, which has been around for weeks and he's just now acknowledging that it exists. Sometimes I think they're like toddlers - they like a lot of fuss when they get a boo-boo! Great job taking such good care of him...
  7. That's hilarious! Thanks for a good little story...
  8. That's probably very smart of you to get him used to the shower. I don't think I'd dare try that with Klaus as he likes to hang on me too much. Clothing helps a lot! LOL
  9. Cool video! Thanks for sharing... Klaus is 9 months old. He chatters a lot, but no words yet. He's starting to lose that "R2D2" quality that he had when he was a "baby-baby." He does a few types of whistle. The wolf whistle when you come into the room, the "c'mere dog" whistle when you leave the room. And, he's starting to whistle the Andy Griffith song a little bit. Even though he's not talking yet, the sounds he makes are very cool.
  10. Hi, Sandra - I know it's totally meaningless, but I get irritated when the English language gets mangled, too. It really only bothers me when it's a business that does it. For example, when a place that sells drinks advertises that they have "ice tea." IT'S ICED TEA for goodness sakes! And when the grocery stores advertise on the radio that they have Pepsi, 2-liter bottles, at "just 3 for $4!". Don't they know that makes it sound like a bad deal? It would sound so much better if they said, "3 for just $4". I tell ya. These people should hire me! I'll set 'em straight...
  11. Hi, and welcome! We're glad you're here. I'm having a similar experience in that I've never had a bird before either. My family has had a parakeet so far, and a Quaker. Neither of those birds really wanted anything to do with me, and the feeling was mutual. Not that I hated them, just have never been much into birds. My grey, now (Klaus) was brought home as a pet for my husband and son. Klaus has chosen me as his favorite, and I have been head-over-heels ever since!
  12. Yes, I've heard this is natural behavior in the wild, to scrounge up food that might be hiding under a leaf or something. My dogs have "buried" their chew bones within blankets here, too. They even "nose" the pretend dirt over the blanket to make sure that bone is safe & sound. But I digress... Klaus does the scratching, too but I think it's because he wants out because he's holding the cage door with his beak when he does it. He must think if he plods on long enough the door might eventually open. If it's not a good time to let him out, I just ignore him and he stops after a while.

    Grey Fun

Good stories everyone! Klaus isn't saying anything, still chattering. He is trying to learn to whistle the Andy Griffith song which is cute. It's chatter, chatter, beep, click - then a few bars of Andy Griffith. Also, I cracked up the day I was pouring a can of vegetable soup into a bowl so I could heat it up, and he let out the longest, most appreciative wolf whistle I've ever heard...
  14. How cool! Looks like Cosmo is doing great...
  15. That is so wonderful! I can't wait to hear more about your newest addition. How about Mr. Bean for a name? Get it? - Coco & Bean. Just a random thought...I love Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) oooh, how about Rowan?
  16. Klaus is a shoulder boy. He's sitting on my shoulder right now! I tried like heck not to allow it when I first got him but he was VERY determined and managed to wear me down. I also discovered I sometimes need use of both my hands when I'm with him, so it's easier this way. So far I don't feel like he's trying to dominate me and aside from one earring mishap I'm pretty much uninjured...
  17. Karma for you! Thanks for the funny story - I needed a smile on this oh-so-blah day... Klaus tries to bathe in his water dish from time to time, but when I give him a bigger dish he doesn't want to get in it.
  18. Hi, and welcome! Your bird sounds like a lot of fun!
  19. Hi, and welcome. It's a wonderful thing you're doing - rescuing the little guy! I hope all goes well...
  20. Sounds like you're doing great!
  21. Thanks for the pictures, Jimmy. Yes, Klaus like to be my hairstylist, too...
  22. I'm in the copier & printer biz, and we've sent out lots of MSDS on the stuff. I'm no expert, but of course breathing it is bad for you. Because the birds have so much more of a delicate system than humans, I think it's safe to say it would be very bad for them. The only real danger, though, is if a cartridge is bad and leaks toner. A good, working cartridge will only put toner on the page, not let it float around loose. Hope that helps a little...
