    Orange!

The camera is already wrapped. :pinch: I was having a brief organizational moment there, and wrapped everything... Plus, the little guy is always around when I am, so he'd see it for sure! I can't wait though...looking forward to seeing what I can do with that puppy!
  2. Hi, and welcome! You've come to the right place for lots of great info and nice people!
  3. 3 blocks? He must've set out, like a month or so ago! Hee-hee... Thanks for sharing that!
  4. Klaus hasn't bitten me very badly (at least, never broke the skin). My earring, however was another story. I was wearing a hoop earring with the wire that goes through the earlobe and the rest of it is kind of like a wedding band. He pulled the earring so hard that he pulled the band part through the piercing hole. Ow, ow, ow!!! I don't wear earrings on a daily basis anymore...

    Orange!

We gave Klaus a slice of orange this weekend (have tried it before, but he wasn't interested). This time he ate it pretty good. I WISH I had a digital camera, he was sitting on top of his cage holding it with one foot and nibbling away. Just goes to show ya, you have to offer different foods frequently, and don't give up because what they turned away before they might eventually decide to try! P.S. I bought a child's digital camera for my son for Christmas, I'm sure he'll share it with me. So hopefully before long I'll be launching some pictures here!

    Favorite Cereal

Yep, oatmeal is definitely good. I had some this morning and Klaus tried a few bites, too. I think it reminded him of his "childhood" when he was being hand-fed as a chick. He tried to eat out of my mouth a little, too. Tried to. Not going there!
  7. Yes, Dan - I think it had something to do with the extreme measures Scott went to in order to comfort the little guy ... and then treats on top of that! Whoo-hoo, no wonder Klaus has tried so hard to make it all happen again! Cool video, Kristin - that's hilarious!
  8. I would say Klaus' latest funny is faking a traumatic fall off his perch (he uses the lowest one, of course, only a couple of inches drop) then flapping his wings pitifully until someone runs to see what's wrong!
  9. I haven't had Klaus long enough to know I'd do anything differently. The biggest surprise of the whole thing, though, is that he wasn't even supposed to be my bird! Technically, we bought him for our son, and my husband is VERY into birds. The one person (me) who wasn't supposed to be involved is now the one in charge of all things "parrot" in our house... I'm flattered, though, and I'm enjoying him!

    bathing

Yes, Baillor, I've tried the shallow dish in the bottom of the cage, too. What a mess! (Not water all over, just a MESS in the water - poop, discarded food, etc. and I swear it took him all of 5 minutes to get the water that filthy!) I've decided to get a shower perch and eeeeeaaase him into the idea verrrrry slowly.
  11. Funny stories, guys! Thanks for sharing...
  12. Hi, and welcome! We're glad you're here...
  13. Hi, and welcome! We look forward to hearing more from you...
  14. Hi, and welcome! My bird is very young, so I don't have any experience with plucking. But I'm sure you'll find some help here!
  15. Last week while I was at work and my husband was home, he said that Klaus fell off his perch and it was a little traumatic (lots of wing-flapping and Klaus fussing). Scott picked him up and comforted him for a long while, then gave him treats to get him back in his cage because he had to get to work. Klaus has now learned to get attention by falling off his perch. He has several in his cage, and one sits kind of low (maybe 1-1/2" from the cage floor). So the low one is the one he "falls" from, then flaps to see who he can get to come a-runnin'! I just can't believe how smart these birds are! Do your birds have a little trick they play to get your attention?
  16. Klaus is 9 months old, too! Same here, no talking but lots of great whistling and cool sounds. Does Petra do the water dripping noise?

    bathing

Klaus does his bathing in the water dish, too!
  18. Hi, and welcome! Fire away with any questions you might have...you'd be hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable group (or nicer people!).
  19. I love the one where the little girl says your eyelashes flutter and stars shoot out of you. LOL Also, the last one, where the little boy "helped him cry." Aaaawww...
  20. That's a nice stand you have on your desk! Thanks for the pictures, Cosmo looks like he's doing great... I have to chuckle, though...I remember the days when having Klaus with me at the computer was safer. He's gone to eat his dinner now, but earlier he destroyed a CD sleeve and knocked a few other papers to the floor. My mouse pad is partially shredded, and one of the buttons on my monitor is gone forever... Mind you, I have a little basket of Klausie toys right here on top of the desk, but I guess the CD sleeve was more interesting today! LOL
  21. A bird's beak is like their hand...it's what they explore with. Harder bites are a different story, there's lots of info on here if you search (there's even a "Bite Me" club, of which I'm a card-carrying member! ) The best advice I can give as far as avoiding bites is not to cause them. You can "not cause" them by always remaining calm around the bird, don't startle him. Approach with your hand from the side/back (never the top/front - predators approach this way and a bird will instinctively go into "defense" mode). If your bird seems bothered by something you're doing (read his body language, you'll know) discontinue if possible. Try to achieve a balance of mutual respect. That's my 2 cents!
  22. Hi, Deb! We look forward to hearing from you!
  23. This came to me in an e-mail ... thought it was cute and that I would share: What does Love mean? Slow down for three minutes to read this. It is so worth it. Touching words from the mouth of babes. What does Love mean? A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, "What does love mean?" The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think: "When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love." Rebecca- age 8 "When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth." Billy - age 4 "Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other." Karl - age 5 "Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs." Chrissy - age 6 "Love is what makes you smile when you're tired." Terri - age 4 "Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make ! sure the taste is OK." Danny - age 7 "Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss" Emily - age 8 "Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen." Bobby - age 7 (Wow!) "If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate," Nikka - age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet) "Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday." Noelle - age 7 "Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well." Tommy - age 6 "During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore." Cindy - age 8 "My mommy loves me more than anybody You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night." Clare - age 6 "Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken." Elaine-age 5 "Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford." Chris - age 7 "Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day." Mary Ann - age 4 "I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones." Lauren - age 4 "When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you." (what an image) Karen - age 7 "Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross." Mark - age 6 "You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget." Jessica - age 8 And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child. The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just s at there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry."
