As babies get older they start to refuse the mid day feeding and are ready to start to pick at new food on their own. This is a good time to introduce other foods such as cooked mix veggies, pellets etc...Scratching at the newspaper is quite normal, my boys did it for months & we have members whose greys still do it

  5. pepper take comfort in this poem, many of us have lost beloved pets but we believe they live on at Rainbow bridge waiting for us one day.. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...

  17. Hi Tina & Welcome to the forum. You will find a wealth of knowledge on here be sure to have a good look around.Any questions please ask we have great members & someone will always try & reply
  18. Have you tried this method as suggested by Parrotlady.. A good method for training an older Grey to accept the harness is to first begin by getting them to accept a spoon feed!!!!! Find their favourite food mash it all up or liquidise it and offer it from a spoon (this is also useful for when medication needs to be given) Once they have become used to the spoon feed and look forward to it you can begin the bib treatment. This consists of a piece of paper towel with a hole in the middle. You pull it over the birds head and it acts as a bib. If you get into a mess it doesn't matter as the paper can be easily ripped and removed. I have found this method very useful to help train older birds to accept having something pulled over their head. Once they are happy with the paper towel you can move onto the harness.
  19. Adorable, be sure to clean the formula off while still wet so it dosent become caked on your baby

  22. Here you go http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/content/knowhow/glossary/quinoa/
  23. Next recipe, Thanks to Judygram for this one AFRICAN GREY PILAF ½ cup quinoa 1 cup water 1 cup yams, sweet potatoes or carrots Fresh corn kernels from one ear of corn or ½ cup frozen corn ½ cup grated broccoli or other finely chopped dark green leafy vegetable ¼ cup Brazil nuts ¼ cup unhulled sesame seed ¼ cup canary seed mix (optional) 2 tsps Udo’s oil blend or red palm oil Bring water to a boil and add the quinoa. After mixture has come to boil again, cover and turn heat to medium-low. Cook for 5 minutes, then add carrots and/or yams. Cover again and cook for another 10 minutes or until the liquid is absorbed. Turn into a bowl and mix with the other ingredients. Serve warm (no hotter than 110 degrees) or at room temperature. Feel free to experiment with this recipe. You can almost any combination of fruits and vegetables. Cut into squares and freeze as desired. Most parrots love this recipe, it’s not just for African greys.
