  2. Please dont let her sit under a cloth on her cage,if she is outdoors she needs to be in the cage or on a harness supervised by you.Greys with clipped wings can still gain flight given the correct circumstances.Dont be under the illusion that she is clipped & cant fly off, she can & will if she is spooked.
  3. Hi Tommy & Welcome to the forum.the other members have offered good advice, time & patience & im sure you will have a good relationship. Please have a good read through all the information that is available here.We look forward to hearing more from you.

  7. I'm sorry Mark but i also feel strongly on this & Echo many of the previous comments. I shall say no more as you have taken plenty of criticism & im sure you have beaten yourself up a million times for leaving the door open. My heart bleeds for Max,i hope one day he is found safe & well.
  8. It sounds quite normal,my greys are not caged but it is a behaviour exhibited by my macaw,i believe it may be an attention seeking behaviour. I wouldnt be overly concerned
  9. Heres a few ideas.. If you pull your hand away and yell, then your parrot gets a reaction out of you and will try again to get the same reaction. They think it's a game, try & show no reaction to him,try to distract him when you can see that he's going to bite, you can gently wobble your hand if he is on you this works well for me.I also have a clicker ( like some people use for dog training! ) if mine go to nip i click on the clicker & say a firm No in a strong voice, the clicker distracts them,or have a toy handy they he can play with. Some people use time out, if your parrot bites you simply return him to his cage for 5 minutes & walk away from him & say nothing. Then let him out as normal, back to the cage if he bites & again dont respond to him.
  10. There is a previous thread somewhere i just cant find it But your right birds dont have diaphragms & therefor cannot hiccup.A hiccup is a contraction of your diaphragm .Brodie is mimicing the sound of a hiccup <br><br>Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2008/09/25 23:56

  20. Matthew i know many of our UK members have insurance for their birds & im sure are US members will advise you accordingly. As with any insurance you take out always read the small print, with pet insurance always check if an on going illness will be covered, some i know dont
  21. Sorry i have never heard of them perhaps other members will share their experiences if they have used them. Here is a little info from the web for anyone who is interested ... FLOWER ESSENCES AND REMEDIES are dilute extracts of various flowers. Bach Flower Remedies are the most popular and were developed in England by Dr. Edward Bach, who spent his life researching and developing the thirty-eight remedies that he discovered. These gentle essences work on the emotions of the body, and both animals and people respond well to their use. They can be used to treat various emotional problems as well as to modify behavioral problems.
  22. Thanks for posting the pictures Berna, good luck with them all, especially scarlet
  23. What a terrible experience you had to go through with Cracker.Unfortunately there are far two many cheap imported cages from china coming into the UK if only they was some kind of regulation / safety rules in place to stop this Im pleased your story had a happy ending
  24. Thanks for adding the additional info Dan.Lets hope that this grey & the other animals you mention are reunited with their owners.
  25. Matthew try switching his meals around, especially when it comes to his fruits & veggies,i find with mine sometimes they will eat their veg other nights it ends up on the floor,i give them different things so no two evening meals are the same, one night pulses, one night veggies etc.. Here is a link on lighting which is worth reading through... http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/47809-lighting.html I know some members have used the bottled sprays but i don't personally.Im sure the chlorine levels are safe in your water as they do have to be regulated & as such be at a safe level.
