4. Greys love to thrown things & they just love our reaction Millie my macaw throws all her toys on the floor,my reaction is Whoops ! a few days later i have three greys saying Whoops :pinch:
5. This is a sad situation & i commend you for wanting to help the little guy.It is sad that people put a grey in a cage & leave it there.I know it's heartbreaking my daughter was working in Portugal last year & was faced with a similar situation, a local restaurant had a grey in a tiny cage sitting there day & night, she phoned me for advice & did strike up a conversation with the owner,by the end of her stay the grey had been provided with some toys & a little knowledge I'd approach the owner & start a conversation, see what transpires from there.Good luck

Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2008/10/09 23:17

8. Great pictures Berna,he is going to be a big boy,he weighs more than millie my B&G,she is only 870g a petite little girl One day i shall be fortunate enough to add a Green wing to my flock
9. If the clicking works for you & your grey recognises it then yes by all means stick with it.You can actually use the clicker method to train your grey. The clicker is just the one you would buy to train a dog.If you do a search in the search box directly at the top of the page it will bring up previous threads for you to have a read through. Here's a piece i wrote previously on kissing As affectionate as it may seem, it is inadvisable to kiss your Grey. It is highly unlikely that our bird will pass anything onto us but there is always the possibility that we may pass something on to them through saliva, germs on the lips, sneezing etc.. Something small to us such as a cold virus can be potentially dangerous to our birds, so why take the risk ? There is always the danger no matter how well you know / trust your parrot it may & can bite your face. Anyone who says that it can't happen with their bird just doesn't know the full scope of what a parrot can do when it wants to.If a parrot were to bite, the owner would mistake it for aggression which it isn't. There's plenty of other ways to show affection to a parrot,A head tickle/scratch, a gentle caress of the beak with your forefinger & thumb, what ever your grey is comfortable with
10. lovely toys, i find it more rewarding making toys for my greys than buying them some are big enough for my Macaw she would love them
11. Hi Erin & Welcom to the forum. We look forward to hearing more from you
12. Baby greys do like to sleep on the bottom of the cage, They feel secure down there id put the towel down then some newspaper over the top so you change it each day.Have a few perches low down in the cage, when he is comfortable he will use them,he has shown he can & he climbs around the cage without any problems so dont be worried.
13. As Tiff says 40 x 40 would be the minimum cage size i would put a macaw in.I cant find my tape measure but i'll measure mine for you & let you know
14. Lynette, congrats on your new baby.Any names for the little one ? Please if you post some pictures would you mind posting in the nursery room
15. There is no reason why you shouldn't take your baby with you, getting them use to a travel cage & travelling in a car is a good thing. If it was me i would opt for leaving him/her at home with your hubby,it does take time for a baby to familiarize themselves & settle in a new home.At 4 months your baby should be fully weaned but it really isnt hard to teach your hubby to give a spoon feed you wont make your baby phobic by leaving it for three days,it will give your partner some time to share your baby
16. Many greys find comfort in having a hand feed.I would leave the formula off now as he is getting a very balanced diet.Offer him a hand feed in the evening, perhaps some warm oatmeal, baby food or a combination of both.My flock love a few spoon fulls of warm food in the evening & it's good to keep up this in case of the event you need to administer any medication in the future
17. Thanks for your input masterid,if you take a look in the bird food room there are many threads that cover your comments.
18. My BIG girl is doing great Tiff She's very much a mummys girl, very clingy at times Were having a nipping phase at the moment but it tends to be when she is over excited ! She's fully weaned but still enjoys an evening feed of baby food,so i continue to give it to her Thank you for askinf Tiff,i'll charge my camera & get some new pictures up .
19. {Love-000200BF} Tuki is adorable Tiff but then im bias They are great pictures of her, i can definately associate with the playing with the finger one Do you offer any hand feeds at all now ? Millie still loves a little baby food in the evening thanks for updating us
20. Lisa if Jojo isnt to interested with the oatmeal you can always just feed the babyfood Is Jojo kicking/scratching when on the floor of the cage ? This is very normal behaviour for yound baby greys, they do go through a phase of this, nothing to be overly worried about & both sexes do it
21. marions91 wrote: Pine nuts tend to be a good choice, perhaps a cut up grape or raisins, dont always give a food use plenty of praise too Tuki sounds like Millie Tiff must be a B&G thing,Millie will eat anything
22. Thanks for sharing your little superstar Heather
