  1. Nice to see congo eating broccoli, broccoli is one of the most nutrient-rich foods for our greys, good job
  2. Trust I'm fully aware of the correct terminology for docking & cropping. At 42 i have had dogs in my life from the day i was born,my parents kept Great Danes & myself Boxers, so i think we are equal on those grounds.No-one is doubting the passion & love you have for your pets that clearly shows, but if you post a picture with your dogs ears bandaged then I'm afraid it is going to raise questions,im sure if the picture had been posted after the dogs ears had healed no-one would have said a word.As i said docking & cropping is always going to be a controversial topic regardless of breed or nationality.Everyone is entitled to their own opinions,as adults i hope we can respect that even if we agree to disagree.
  3. Thank you Terri I thought you may like some updated pictures of Millie, time goes so fast i cant believe she is 5 months old now,she has certainly grown & made great progress from the little 12 week old baby i brought home checking out the forum. I swear this baby is so laid back, she loves to chill like this ! Am i cute or what ?
  4. Thanks to Judy for supplying these recipes to add to our collection... Cowboy "Nutriberries" 1 cup of dried unsulphured fruit 2 tablespoons of coconut 1/2 cup of uncooked oatmeal 1/2 cup raisins or trail mix (no sulphur, salt or chocolate) 1/4 cup of seeds and/or crushed nuts 2 tablespoons of peanut butter 1 tablespoon of honey or molasses Blend all the dry ingredients in a food processor until chopped finely. Place mixture into a bowl, add peanut butter and honey or molasses. Mix very well and the mixture is sticky. If mixture seems too dry add 1/2 cup of applesauce. Roll mixture into small 1/2 inch balls and place on a cookie sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for about 18 minutes. Cool and serve. Pumpkin Cookies (a birdie bread without the wheat) 1 egg small can of organic pumpkin 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice 1/2 cup yogurt 1 to 2 cups oatmeal ground up into flour 1/2 cup ground nuts 2 tablespoons ground flax seed Form into balls or spoon onto baking sheet for cookie type shape. Bake at 350 degrees until completely cooked through, about 40 minutes. Try different ingredients which may benefit particular species. Congo Corn Bread 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (corn meal, or any flour, ground up pellets, etc) 2 cups frozen or canned corn 1/4 cup red palm oil 1 cup carrot, orange, apple or other fruit or vegetable juice 1 egg (include the shell but that is optional) In food processor or blender combine palm oil, juice, egg and half the corn until smooth. Pour over whole wheat flour and remaining corn. Mix until almost completely blended. Spoon into 9x9x2 inch pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes until done. Sweet Potato Balls 1 large sweet potato baked until soft 1/2 cup raisins 1 small banana 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables thawed 1 cup diced apple 1 1/2 cups corn flakes In food processor puree sweet potato, banana, apple and mixed vegetables. When smooth add corn flakes and puree until smooth again. Stir in raisins with a wooden spoon. Roll into small balls and freeze, defrost to serve. They will keep about 6 months in the freezer.
  5. Grapes are often relished by most parrots, they have a moderate amount of folic acid & yes they contain lactose which is a natural sugar, offered as a treat they are much appreciated along with strawberries which are rich in Vitamin B and C and contain a considerable amounts of potassium, iron and fibre. If feed in moderation they pose no threat to your grey.
  6. Well in a sense Judy people do,birds are born with wings as dogs are born with droopy ears or long tails as nature intended ,i know all the pros & cons for clipping so im not opening that can of worms, but isn't clipping the wings not dissimilar to shortening a tail ?
  7. Great plans there,i cant wait to see the finished product once you have made it be sure to add some pictures for us
  8. Yes i remember you mentioning that Penny many moons a go in a thread & i told ya to go pick some
  9. Well this is always going to be controversial topic,if it is performed for medical reasons & i can speak from experience, then i don't find this a problem,if it is purely for cosmetic reasons to enhance your dogs look then I'm totally against it.My boxer was continually thrashing her tail to the point she damaged it so bad it had to be docked.
  10. I think most of them just eat the flesh Pat,mine all discard the grape skin. cherries are a big hit in my house too at the moment with my grey flock, while millie the macaw loves blueberries
  11. Well i have to agree with you Forest is stunning. thanks for sharing your handsome guy with us
  12. Siobhan the ears have been docked,i believe a common practice in the US,which should really be done in the first two weeks after a pup is born.It is more common in Dobermans & boxers.Docking the ears makes them stand erect as opposed to the natural hanging ears they are born with.Docking of the tail and ears are both procedures which are always going to be very controversial .
  13. Baby parrots go through a nibbling stage. They are checking out their environment. Everything has different textures. In this nibbling stage do not let your bird use your fingers or other parts of your body. Give your bird something more appropriate like a toy or other acceptable object.I know Echo is slightly older, just be firm with him,a harsh NO & return him to his cage/stand for a few minutes. He has to see that this behaviour is not acceptable & gains him nothing.
  14. Di both the parsnip & turnip can be eaten raw,be sure to wash and peel the skin.I tend to boil or steam them for 5 minutes. The tops of them are packed with vitamins & minerals, sometimes they are sold separately in the supermarket.
  15. Hi Veronique & Welcome to the forum. We look forward to hearing more from you & all about your new baby grey

  17. Any pet bird can become fat, they develop weight problems for the same reason people do — too many calories and too little exercise, One way to control your pet bird’s weight is through regular exercise, playing out of the cage & allowing some flight in your home. The more active your bird is, the more calories he’s going to burn and the better shape he’s going to be in.
  18. Hi Mansley, yes i think im nuts 4 ! My 2 boys Alfie & Freddie are brothers, coco & Kaiti my girls are both re-homes,they all live in their own bird room & yes 99.99% of the time they get on fine, the other 1% is if one of them is having a bad day

  22. Hi Veronique, do you have a picture you could post ? Baby CAG's have red tail feathers that are edged in black, both the CAG & the TAG have white eye patches.A baby TAG with have darker tail feathers more of a maroon colour & the top of the beak will be a natural colour, the CAG's beak is all black.A TAG is far smaller than a CAG,ill put a few picture up for you to see if that helps you. TAG CAG
