No problem Jamie,names Tracy BTW

Now that would make a good picture Penny both on your shoulders, get Melissa to have the camera to hand I do allow my macaw on my shoulder  but I'm confident in my own abilities in the way i handle her, this also has a bearing on allowing your grey on your shoulder,a confident handler should be in command of the situation,a less confident handler could end up being dominated by the grey

This is a question that is asked time & time again. It really is a matter of choice that only you can decide.some members do allow their greys to ride around on their shoulder others prefer not to.If you are going to allow this then it's paramount that your grey understands the "the step up " command so he responds whne you want to remove him.If you dont want to allow this then now while Jake is a baby is the time to stop it,simply tell him a firm "no" & ask him to step up,if he is running up your arm then block him with the other hand. Please remember as cute & tame as they are there is always the risk of injury to the face when a parrot is on your shoulder .

This thread will give you some idea of the variety of foods are members feed their greys http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/24030-whats-your-greys-diet.html

I would personally provide a bowl of veggies in the morning whatever you have to hand, some greys like their veg raw others like it slightly cooked & served warm, you will have to play around to find how your grey prefers it,leave this for a few hours then remove before it spoils,i would then let your grey have access to the pellets, greys like to munch throughout the day,the sunflower seeds i would only feed in moderation alongside a few nuts a day.In the evening you could try anything from mashed sweet potato,a little cooked pasta, rice with any veggies mixed in,some scrambled egg ( only once a week do i offer egg ) Make sure the pellets are available for your grey to fill up on before bed,as greys go sleep with a full crop.

Bath with regular water or with something else?
lovemyGreys replied to SarahDavid's topic in The GREY Lounge
Regular water is fine, some greys like it cold others enjoy it a little tepid/warm.You can use the aloe after you have sprayed Noah.If you are using a spray bottle spray directly above his head so the water falls down, dont point it directly towards him -
Your welcome Leigh And nice to have you back on the forum

Mine have a soaked fruit mix in the morning which consists of,papaya, pineapple, mago, cocount, peas, water shrimp, mixed berries to that i add whatever fruit i have in the house,so that could be pomegranate, kiwi, banana, apples, oranges. They also have access to a good quality seed mix throughout the day ( mine our pellet haters ! ) In the evening they have a large bowl each filled with, peas, carrots, broccoil, sugar snap peas, sweetcorn, obviously i vary it from day to day to include pasta, rice, peppers, tomatos,a hard boiled egg as a treat, the list is endless really.

 Thats ok Leigh i was only playing Yes Greys can pick up our human feelings so if Bill & yourself were down Booty would have sensed this too, they do react to our moods. Well my situation is slightly different from other members in the fact that i have a bird room for my greys ( 4 of them ! ) Their room is joined on to our living room, so they interact with eachother but also have human interaction My macaw lives in the living room but does come in to the bird room with me. If you go for a macaw then obviously there is a size difference & the birds would have to be introduced slowly over time, out of cage time would for the time being have to be separate & supervised.look at it this way,if you get the macaw, your getting it for you & not for Booty, there is never any guarantees than any two birds will get on or even like eachother, but given time they might, try & get a macaw as soon as it is weaned as a baby this way the macaw will be more accepting of a grey .You can keep different species of birds & have a happy balance. I actually always wanted a greenwing macaw, but for some reason this year here in the UK the numbers of babies has fallen, after waiting 6 months + i found Millie, fell in love & brought her home at 12 weeks still hand feeding her,she is now 5 1/2 months still on a night feed but is the love of my life

I wouldnt force or entice him out, just leave the cage door open for him to make his own way out, curiosity will eventually get the better of him & he will want to come out & explore even if it's just sitting on top of his cage.Make sure for the time being food is only available inside his cage,he will return when the hunger strikes. Your Welcome Stan,we hope your time here is enjoyable,we all share a common interest with our greys but we do have some laughs & light hearted moments too
-
Sorry to hear you have had such a sad time of late, here's hoping things will start to look up for you & given time your pain will begin to heal. As for Booty missing Barley she sounds as if she is coping well, signs to watch out for would be loss of appetite,non-vocalization,feather plucking due to the stress, basically anything that is out of character for her, but she seems to be coping well, some greys are more resiliant than others If you are able to stay over at a friends with her then i'd say yes this would be the ideal scenario, that way she isnt exposed to any fumes What's wrong with the British accent ? I'm British
-
Yes it is very sad & long term health wise is not good for our greys to live on seed alone. At least you are aware of this & hopefully will be able to introduce some fruit & veggies into your greys diet. There is a wealth of information here in the bird food room, so please have a good read through This link shows the variety of safe fruit & veg it is possible to feed.. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/59809-complete-veggiefruit-list.html

Hi Stan & Tequila Welcome to the forum. We are glad you joined us & We look forward to hearing more from you

Fruit & vegetables should be offered in addition to a pelleted or seed diet.Still allow them access to their pellets but introduce the new foods. The best time to try is in the mornings, this is when our greys are at there most hungriest after their night time sleep. I have included a link for you which has some different ideas on how to tempt your birds with new foods http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/53831-tips-for-getting-your-grey-to-eattry-new-foods.html As for the poop, yes if your bird eats one particular food,in this case the carrots then that will reflect in the colour of the stools
-
Yes that is mentioned in one of the previous threads Toni,i have never heard of it Is it an American brand ?
