  1. Here is some good Advice give by Dave007 on a previous thread,im sure he wont mind me passing it on.. Any move can be rough on a parrot. Even moving some birds from one room to another can be a bad experience. On the other hand, everything can be opposite. Try to make the move as non traumatic as you can. If you can keep your bird with you while moving, that's a great plus. When you finally get there, the beginning times for the bird will be a little rough because of a new location, surrounding but if you're there to show support many birds will eventually settle down. If your bird is a talker or the type that likes to constantly make sounds, expect him to stop that for a few days. His daily amount of time out of the cage is fine. When you move let him see as many familiar things as possible like the way the cage has been set up. A cage is a grey's home and should remain looking like it was. I've moved a few times with more than 1 bird and there were no drastic problems. At first, they were nippy. I never tried to force myself on them. I just let them take their time studying everything and I set no time limits as far as how long this would occur. Normally, the grey will tell you that the transition has been complete and finally accepted. When you get him there, don't put him into the hustle and bustle of things that might distract him from calming down. Try to unpack your boxes a little farther away so he doesn't get rattled. Basically, take it slow and calm. Many people have to move for one reason or another. Another plus is that your bird is still very young. They will accept change much better than older greys that are very set in their ways. Even if he plucks a bit, he;ll stop as soon as things are calm. Greys sometimes pluck because ogf the intensity of things. While you and he are in a new place, constantly talk to him as you did before. Let him be aware of your presence as it used to be. Increase the amount of favorite treats that he likes. Continue your normal relationship with him as it always was. he likes sitting and annoying you at the PC? well, let him continue to do that. Slow, easy and with patience and calmness. --------- Dave with have many members who have experience of moving home & hopefully they can pass on their thoughts

It's not a crying out to be fed ? I'll have to continue this tomorrow with you im afraid,im in the UK & it's 1.10 am  Shout me tomorrow if i can help
  4. As Siobhan said it must have been heart breaking to give Rikki up but please take comfort that she has a wonderful life with Penny & her family,i know they love her to pieces
  5. It may be because she can see Echo & she is missing the comfort of her clutch mates. If she is fluffing up with the screeching then she may be scared. You need to ignore her when she is screeching as you dont want to reinforce this behaviour, sit & talk with her & handle her when she is quiet. Send hubby in my direction
  6. Yes i know it's hard Pat & you feel helpless to watch them. The good thing is your getting a little food down him & he appears to have perked up a little, please update us after your vets visit.
  7. When does she screech ? how often etc.. ? parrot tend not to screech unless they are lacking something or want something, she is also a baby & it's early days she needs time to adjust to her new home,at the moment everything is alien to her. however be aware that parrots naturally "call to the flock" (you are one of the flock) several times per day. This is simply natural. "Calling to the flock" usually occurs in the morning, often times at noon, and again around late afternoon. Some possible reasons are they want your attention (sometimes parrots want our attention all the time!), they need food/water, something is amiss (we may not necessarily know what this is...you have to think from a bird's perspective), they are too cold/hot, one bird could be upset with the other bird, they could be upset about something in the cage, something around them is strange/different, they may not like someone in the home (a visitor perhaps), if they are situated by a window where they can look out something outside might be upsetting them, etc. Tell hubby it's not because she is female
  8. And thank you for sharing your two cents worth Mark It's great to hear other members views on clipping & im pleased to hear Yogi has his flight
  9. Sorry to hear this Pat,you are doing all the right things, providing warmth etc.. if he is not sitting lethargic on the bottom of the cage then this i would take as a positive sign,i wish i could offer more advice but your vet will tomorrow.Good luck & hugs for you
  10. Hi megoni123 & Welcome to the forum. We look forward to hearing more from you I have posted a reply on harnesses in the other thread for you
  11. The majority of our members use the aviator harness, the younger your grey is the more accepting he will be of it,The aviator comes with a great instructional DVD. Here is a link to another thread for you... http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-nursery/73556-harness-training.html
  12. I'm in agreement with Siobhan & Trust on this one.I personally would feed them when there are so many alternatives out there. In the wild, they feed primarily on nuts and fruits, supplemented by leafy matter <br><br>Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2008/08/12 21:30
  13. Forgot to add if you see an excess of the white downy feathers all over the place this could be the start of Indy's first molt The tail feathers will grow back through.
  14. Great picture Mark, thanks for sharing that with us
  15. The white flakes your bird sheds when preening or ruffling its feathers is not really dandruff as such,it's perfectly normal & the bathing will help. Baby greys do tend to damage their tail feathers from being over boisterous, playing rough, catching them on the cage bars etc.. again nothing to worry about
  16. Great post & pictures Berna no more to add Elmo is a cutie .
  17. Hi Terri, Just my thoughts Terri, Playing with our greys is not only fun, it is a necessary and important part of their development. I believe we are teaching them skills that they will use for the rest of their life in our human-oriented world.I think by playing & interacting with them it gives us a great insight into our greys behavior by observing the bird's body language and vocal responses to various play situations. You will learn when the bird is excited, angry, nervous, and content.Playing with them provides the stimulation they need, the human interaction they crave at times & having them involved in our lives via play then they will im sure be more fulfilled .
  18. Congrats Siobhan,Welcome to the Mods Team
