  1. Wow that's fascinating, thanks for sharing!
  2. She seems like a sweetie, although I could never buy a bird without meeting it first...I dunno I'm weird like that! She sure seems like a keeper though, and just gorgeous!
  3. Hey there, to answer your first question it definitely sounds like your bird is trying to regurgitate for your husband, and I use poop off for all my floors and I have laminate wood flooring in my apartment and it works great!
  4. Hi Ice.... Red does have a patch missing. Both my CAGs were rescued but she was the more abused one of the two. She picked them out from what the owner said years ago, and from what the vet could tell there was some scar tissue there indicating she might have at one time picked at her skin, but either way she will probably never get those chest feathers back. The area itself has gotten a bit smaller as she's let some grow back in, but she hasn't plucked at all since she's lived with me!
  5. Yeah there are Ikea's all ove rthe US one just opened up an hour from me...I used to have to drive 4 hours up to Seattle just to go shopping there twice a year!!!
  6. I have these cute little ice cubes trays that are star shaped which just makes it even easier for mine to grip, Red LOVES ice cubes.... And if you wanna give your birds a healthy treat... I take fresh squeezed organic carrot juice, and then add something fruity like orange or organic pineapple juice, then freeze it into birdie popsicles, mine go nuts for them, especially on these hotter days!
  7. But like everyone said there is no sure way other than sexing....the best you have is a hunch
  8. If you can make it down to the keys I have heard it far surpasses what Miami has to offer! My brother has been there a couple of times and can't stop talking about it!
  9. I love those kinda plants, but I have no idea, sorry!
  10. Hmm I don't know the answer but I'm curious myself now!
  11. I haven't heard much about one really outliving the other! And in the world of birds it seems that the bigger the bird the longer they live such a some Cockatoos living into their 80's+
  12. Yeah well Mango is quite the clown, I have to say she has the goofiest personality of them all!
  13. I snapped a few pictures of my fids eatin their snacks when I went home for lunch yesterday....I also took pics of my other birds, hope ya'll don't mind! This is The Queen Bee, Red, eating her snack Mom, I knew you gave me this peanut as a bribe Then the diva princess Zsa Zsa Mom I don't like my picture being taken dangit Do you mind I'm eating here? Alright thats it your camera is toast! Here my Senegal Midori thinking, that's it?! and then my goofball Mango. I tried to get a picture of her, but before I could even push the button, she had already dropped her treat, and ran to the top of her cage to hide in her happy hut and puff up all big in attack mode and defending her cage:laugh:
  14. That sounds to me like nesting behaviors....the only thing I'm worried about is the fact that its still a freshly weaned baby I would maybe contact the breeder and see if they could help you out. Another suggestions maybe crumple up a couple balls of newspaper and throw them in the bottom of the cage and see if he/she will tear that up instead of scratching the bottom! Yikes that's scary I don't know what else to tell you!
  15. DNA is the only way to do it however I've said it before and I'll say it again, both my Greys had the visual markers, the lighter strips under the wings, the grey tips on the vent feathers, and the thin eye rings, and both have been sexed as females.
  16. Woo hoo that's awesome, and I think it will be good "practice" to see what you're getting yourself into LOL Congrats!
  17. Just don't acknowledge the words when he's saying them....even the slightest thing like you shaking your head, or saying don't say that etc etc is a response nonetheless. Just do not respond to what he is saying....I've noticed with mine, if I respond to them when they learn new words they repeat them over and over, but if I don't say those words around them, or encourage the behavior by laughing, telling them to stop or whatever, they've stopped saying it!
  18. Well first if you think the dog would go nuts, then I wouldn't recommend one. My Sun Conure was rehomed because the prior owners got a puppy, and Both teh dog and the bird went crazy LOL So go with your gut on that one. I've seen cats and dogs alike turn their noses up at birds and not really care one way or the other. Most of the time the bird just learns how to whistle for the dogs and scold them LOL which would equally drive them batty! Everyone is entitled to not like a certain animal, I don't like goats, somethin about their eyes LOL. As far as their poop being toxic, if your mom ingested her OWN feces she would get sick too, There is bacteria in ALL feces, doesn't matter which animal it is. As far as time I wake up at 8 everymorning. I cook the birds breakfast real quick, say good morning, open the windows, then leave. I go home at lunch, which its my lunch right now so I'll be heading out the door in a minute, and I check on them since I live so close and make them lunch. Then I don't get to go home until around 5:30 at which the birds are out of their cages from 5:30 until they crawl back into their cages for bed around 9 or so. Do they get tons of out of cage time, not as much as I'd like, but I also know people who's birds only get out for an hour a day so I can't beat myself up over it too much. It sounds like theres more negative than positive of getting a CAG now while living at your parents, but only you can be the judge of that!
  19. I wish I could do that! A couple of my friends do and leave all their flock out together...I have 3 troublemakers and 1 innocent one so I would have my handsfull
  20. I think it's just a personal preferrence. I don't cover any of mine as in the wild they don't have a "cover", and also I've noticed if they can't open their eyes and see anything like if they hear a noise or something, my birds will let out random screams in the night, so none of mine get covered
