  1. LOL Nychsa - I'll bet she is grinning, completely basking in her fear inducing self
  2. Hi KatB, T12 and T8 sizes have beenn around for decades and will not be discontinued or phased out for several more uears, if ever. There are T8 and T12 full spectrum Tubes availabel in limited loctions. They are not the high volume sellers like cool white etc. Home Depot Online does show this fixture for example: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100043531&categoryID=502059 and you get order these tubes: http://www.sunalux.com/s_lightbulbs.cfm

Great reply Ziggy. :-) One other thing that could be causing the 'nipping". Dayo is now 7 Months old and just started a behaviour he has never displayed before. He decided he does not want a very young grandchild too close to him He did this yesterday, my grandson walked up to my right side where dayo was sitting on my shoulder. Dayo then walked over to my left shoulder. My Grandson then walked to that side. Then Dayo, for the first time, gripped my shoulder firmer than normal and bit my ear fairly hard. At first I was a little bewildered, but then realized he was telling me that "We" need to move and get out of this scary situation. :-) It could be that as you are driving, he see's something a little scary and wants you to "move" out of that situation.
  4. Joe hit the nail on the head, communications. :-) We all use different terms to describe a scenario. I understand Jimmy's comments and agree. The use of the prefix "un" is a common one to describe the opposite of something. You can call a change in behaviour un - freindly, natural, armed etc. The bottom line is, something changed. :-) You can train a dog to play bite your hand or you can untrain him (behaviour modification) that your hand is not a play biting toy. The bottom line is we can change the behaviour of a person, animal or bird by our actions and consistency of them. Also, keep in mind, every living creature has "freewill" and can decide they no longer want to continue to participate or obey what is being requested. Jimmy, none of us can truly nail down why your Greys behaviour changed, but we can sure offer lots of "maybes" like try this or did this happen or he is just "testing" or he is not wanting to leave his cage etc. We all just put our "best guess" out there in hopes it might help and communicate it in different words and contexts. We should not really question whither a persons use of a particular word is valid or not as a true description. :-) It's all just us trying to communicate with one another.
  5. Nice photos Jimmy!! A shower perch might just do the trick, it's worth a try :-)
  6. Welcome Tash!! As, Briansmum and Judy have stated, only time and patience will bring the bonding between you. Have you tried saying "Scratches" and seeing if he puts his head down for some? I don't know if his previous owners gave him scratches or not, but that may be as close to cuddling you will get. It's great to have you here and we'll look forward to hearing more from you. :-)
  7. Welcome Stuaz! MrSpock hit the nail on the head. A vet visit is required ASAP to get your Grey back to health. Please let us know how he's doing and what the vet finds. :-)
  8. That a nice Playstand you got for Harrison. Once he gets used to it and becomes less fearful, he will be all over it. :-)
  9. Nychsa - As you know, Bella will continue having fun tormenting your business partner until they change their emotions and body language. It is just like school yard bullies, it's fun to watch the cowering sissy flinch everytime you say BOO :-) KatB - That's good news on the quick turn around with him. I am sure you are relived and you two will be enjoying each others companionship at a much more intimate level as time goes forward. :-)
  10. Hi KatB, No, you can not place a T12 in a T8 fixture. The recepticals are different sizes and the Electronic ballast is designed with different electrical specifications. It's very odd that Home Depot did not have any T12 fixtures. Perhaps they keep them in a diferent area or are out?
  11. Welcome Richard!! That was a nice introduction. It sounds like you will have many stories about pepper to share. We'll look for to hearing more from you.
  12. Oh Geezzz BadKarma!! That little niece needs some Ice Cream and Cookies now after that scary trip for stitches. Your right, safety, safety, safety
  13. It sounds like they all have a wonderful time at your house Dave. I LOVE THAT PICTURE!! IT IS ONE OF A KIND. YOU SHOULD PUBLISH THAT!!! :-)
  14. They sound like a fun bunch to watch :-) Do you tkae each of them out individually into your living area for the respective social time you or in sets?
  15. Great post with photos Dave!! I have a question on the Greys. Do the CAGs treat the TAG any different than they do each other?
  16. That was very enjoyable Kibibi, thanks!
  17. I use a large 4 96" 75 watt Daylight (300nm to 675nm spectrum) each tube fixture that illuminates the entire room. It's actually built recessed into the ceiling so it looks like a normal part of the house. You may not be able to do this depending on the room you are keeping your Grey in. If you are going to place a flourscent just above the Cgae, then I would suggest something like this: http://www.avitec.com/24-Inch-Fixture-p/ff24.htm I hope this helps.
  18. Hi JohnyBoy, It's great to hear that your Grey has gained weight and seems to be thriving. As Birdmom suggested, if you haven't already taken him in for a check-up, it would be a good idea.
  19. Welcome Mike!! Wow, you've had Jocko for almost 26 years years!! I am sure you will be adding a great amount of experience and stories to this Forum. :-) Maybe you could post some photos of your Greys when you get a chance.
  20. Welcome HilaryQ!! Janurary is not far off. They are so cute as babies at that age and the little panting sounds are precious. Can't wait to see those photos once youve got them uploaded. :-)
  21. Hi KatB, Your correct, the Metal Halide is not correct for use to illuminate a bird room. As you know, Aquarium and plant lighting is a completely different application and environment. If you need to heat the room your Grey is in, then heat it normally, not through a lamp :-)
  22. Great update on Edgar, Hannibal. :-) Thanks for posting it. maybe you could post some photos when you get a chance.:woohoo:
  23. MrSpock, excellent advice as always from yoru many years of working with and breeding Grey's. I swear, I learn something new everytime you post! :-)
  24. It sounds like you had some good out of cage time with those Parrots at the Pet store Jimmy. As Tracy said, most pet store staff have no clue how to properly deal with the large variety of critters they are charged with caring for. It's great that you corrected her and I hope she passes that on to other store staff. As far as the pricing goes, that's a Pet store!! :-)
  25. You run the risk of them becoming the best of friends and discarding you. As far as putting them in the cage together. Do they ever go in together during the time you have them out? A short test might be ok, with the cage door left open so there is an escape route, at first. Only you can make that decision, since you already know the risks and possibility of you becoming the outcast one. If you start seeing that to happen, you could always place them in separate cages again to curtail it .
