Hi Mike, Growling and screaming is normal reaction from Greys. They do this when they are alarmed, playing and when they want whatever it is in close proximity to leave them a lone. Has your wife changed her nail polish or hair color/style? Greys are so sensitive to change of the smallest items sometimes, you have to start the detective work and do a process of elimination to figure out what it is that is causing the behaviour. It is good to hear that Mumbles is not attacking or biting your wife and perhaps is excepting her as a private rank in the flock hierarchy :-)

I think as others have already indicated, tepid to cold water seems to be the preference in Greys and I know it is for my Conure. As soon as I get back Home, the floating Iceburg game is on!! :woohoo: It sounds like a good time for the Grey and the Owner.

It's is around the age of 8 Months and older that they begin molting. Dayo is 7 1/2 Months old and has lost all of his white baby feathers and 1 Tail Feather so far. Just keep an Eye on him, but it sounds like to timing is right. Others will chime in when they wake up. :-)

One of the main areas that Greys live in, in Africa is Cameroon. Here is a temperature chart by season there. You can see they survive and thrive in the Hot and Cold seasonal fluctuations from a low 0f 30's to the high 80's listed quite well. <br><br>Post edited by: danmcq, at: 2007/12/05 15:44

Hi Azrich, Yes, all Greys scratch at different times. It is a normal search and harvest behaviour.

Nice post Ziggy and good advice along with things to watch for. As at Thanksgiving, Dayo and Jake will be a part of all the preparation, festivities and family chats. They do get in the way sometimes with their never quenched playfulness and curiosity, but they sure enjoy themselves. If making them a part of the of the prep and festivities. Then providing a safe environment and setting guest rules is a must, as Ziggy has indicated. We just added Christmas stockings to out fireplace mantle for Dayo and Jake along with all the others of our Family members of Human, Canines and Birds :-)

It sounds like a Molt. How old is sassy?

Great photos and video Jimmy!! :-) Keep an eye on him though. He seems to be suspiciously highly interested in the Liquor bottles. Could be an inherent family trait carried over from the swaggering Pirate days of old. Check the liquor level daily in each bottle... B)

It's great to hear that the Preen Gland is ok and your nerves have settled down a bit makena. :-) I have had a broken blood feather in my Conure and observed one in the clutch we picked Dayo from. In both instances we freaked while the birds dealt with the problem themselves while we called vet emergency rooms :ohmy: By the time we finished calling, the bleeding had stopped. :woohoo: So, as has already been said, in most instances it seems the birds fair well on their own in dealing with a damaged or broken blood feather, just as they do so in the wild. BUT, we do need to keep a close eye on them to ensure it does not keep bleeding. Please give Makena a whole Papaya for being such a great photo subject without taking a piece of your finger. B)

Awww Tracy, what a heart you have. Now you will have a Quartet, let us see the video once you have them all harmonizing together. :-) I know that poor guy is going to happier than he has ever dreamed of in your Home. I am sure he will flourish and be more than happy to be among such a wonderful flock in a loving and caring home. Can't wait to hear when you bring him home!!

What wonderful Photos Mazy!! That is a hug home to heat, I would imagine you also have a wood or other fuel heater upstairs too or perhaps you rely on the heat rising? I agree with everyones posts on the temps staying around 69 or up in the Winter. As others have posted, my local Breeder also houses all their Breeders outside in 3 huge unheated aviaries that get down into the high twenties and thirties here in central California. The Parrots from Conures to Macaws do just fine. In fact, we were over visiting with the Breeders the other night and they were telling us a pair of Hawk Headed Conures they have love to jump in and take a bath when they go out and crack the ice in their water bowls!! :-)
