  1. GreyT post on GracieMae's consideration of your request for some of that cherished Apple and ultimately handing it over to you. Her empathic Grey gift certainly "Lightened" the atmosphere and slowly removed the darkness and cold chilling the atmosphere. I love hearing stories of the true cognitive abilities our grey's possess and use constantly. Many people never notice most times. Thanks for sharing this.
  2. Isaac looks much better in those newest photos! Thanks for posting these Stephen.
  3. So sorry to hear the plucking continues. I do know you have exhausted all avenues in trying to find the underlying cause and ways to try and slow it down or stop it. I know you love Isaac regardless and your relationship will always remain intact with the joy you bring to each other.
  4. Welcome to the Forum. How old is your Grey? They can have have some loud and yes annoying sounds at times. If this is an older Grey, it could have become an ingrained sound/call if it was supported by previous owners just by replying to it, even if it was with a shut up, be quite etc. The grey would have interpreted as a response call. In regards your Dogs, they will get used to that sound over time as all do. The best way to slow down and hopefully stop an unwanted call from a Grey is to completely ignore it. Walk out of the room etc. every time it occurs. I look forward to hearing more from you.
  5. Thanks for sharing this Talon. I quote the article "For me, the sight of a parrot living alone, living in a cage, deprived of flight, miserably bored, breaks my heart. And the parrot’s too, perhaps." Sounds more like Prison to me and I have no doubt it is to that Parrot living miserably in it.
  6. I started Dayo in the shower at 15 weeks old. He still hates them 7 years later.
  7. At almost 2 years old, he is feeling his oats and exercising his will very strongly. The happens very often as a grey starts maturing and getting in to their terrible twos. You are going to need to pay very close attention to his bady language to avoid bites. They are masters of the poker face and the only indication is small nuances of their body language at the time leading upto a bite. There is a good thread here on body language. It may help you with this: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?109373-Body-language-most-frequently-seen
  8. As always, Dave is spot on. We started visiting Dayo when he was 6 weeks old. At about 8 weeks of age he started constantly going to my wife each time we went to visit the 2 flocks of baby greys which totaled 7. When we brought him home at 16 weeks old he was my wifes grey through and through. Loved cuddling with her, would lay on his back on her lap etc. That continued unil he was around 2 - 2 1/2 years old. I was the "Other person" all this time and would routinely receive bites trying to interact with him at various levels. Sometimes he would let me give him scratches, sometimes he would fake me out and nail me. Then it became less and less and he preferred to sit on a T-Stand or Tree stand and chill, chase our conure Jake around the house or terrorize his toys rather than spend time with my wife. Now at 7 years old he just likes to get some scratches and then just chill the rest of the time. He now readily takes scratch's from me or my wife and rarely bites either one of us unless we are trying to remove him from a forbidden zone or item. They change enormously from chick to mature and awe inspiring adult grey.
  9. Nice! Thanks for sharing it.
  10. LOL, good topic! Dayo does not take commands. As far as me: I ONLY DO WHAT THE VOICES IN DAYO'S HEAD TELL HIM TO TELL ME TO DO!
  11. Oh no! Too sad. You have my condolences. Please update with necropsy information once you have it.
  12. I agree 100 percent Dave! Thanks for "Telling it like it is"!
  13. Welcome and thanks for the introduction and photos. She is beautiful. It appears in the photos that her feathers may actually be a little tattered and non-fixable. Birds are the masters of feather care by instinct. Don't sweat this. When feathers become damaged enough, they will molt out and be replaced.
  14. Welcome! Your doing a great job in raising this very young chick.

    Mini Cones

Cool idea! I'm going to try that. I have no doubt it will be well received.

    Omg

Just try to make the harnessing a non-combative experience. At two they really do get an attitude most the time and are a hand full. If he starts throwing a fit when you try to harness him, stop. Try to get him enticed to harness up by asking if he wants to go outside, to a friends house he likes, a place he likes etc. I have not been able to harness my grey since about 2 years old. I have tried each year when weather is permitting, but no dice so far. Now he just climbs in his pak-o-bird when we state we are going somewhere and he is non-combative with that completely. The thing with harnesses, is unless you purchase extensions there is no benefit to your bird anyway other than being able to just sit on you. When we go places we are allowed him out of the pak-o-bird we do so and he can fly anywhere he wishes unlimited by any type of constraint.
  17. Thanks for sharing this. I always enjoy reading the phrases all our greys come up with.
  18. Please read this thread about Red Palm Oil. It will give you all the specifics on how to use it: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?200424-Red-Palm-Oil

    In Flight

    Nice!!! Thanks for sharing this.
  20. Wow, I have no clue what a 3 week old CAG would weigh on average. They are not normally taken from the parents that young. Perhaps Dave our resident Grey Breeder could shed some light on this.
  21. Wow, nice introduction and history of Bogarts life to this point. Welcome to the Forum. It sounds like you are doing everything right, especially using positive reinforcement on behaviors like biting that you are trying to lessen. There is a thread in another are here that you should read by Katana and her grey that was severely abused in previous homes. It will shed a lot of light on dealing with a grey such as this. Your in it for the long haul it seems and you will have good and bad days as you probably already suspect or know. Ask away, we have many members here with a ton of experience. Here is the I referred to: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?192443-Gilbert-is-home
  22. The others have given great thoughts on this. One thing you should know about a mature 13 year old grey is they are very set in their ways. They have selected one love muffin (as they do in the wild for life) and will remain that way until they separate due to death or rehoming. Mature greys are not normally cuddly like they were when young. Most stay more to themselves and like interaction when they choose to and for how long. It does sound like you have already developed a friendship with her and are respecting her comfort zone which is great.
  23. LOL, he is just getting his wild side groove on as others have said. Thanks for sharing this video.
