  1. LOL, that is a funny photo. Thanks for sharing it.
  2. Wow, great responses by all. Thanks folks!
  3. Yeah, their instructions are half wrong. I actually called zoo med on that and they did state "To the top of the Head". Since mine have been burned in, I run them at 12" above 12 hours a day.
  4. YOUR office?????? Thanks for sharing this.
  5. Loved this post. They do certainly learn quickly how to "Steer" us. Gotta love that body english they use to do so. Sometimes I don't respond fast enough because I'm doing something and the next thing I know Dayo leaning out so far if he tipped 1mm further he would be pointed straight down.
  6. I love watching Corvid videos. Thanks for sharing these. Most may not realize it, but Blue Jays are a member of the Corvid Family. I have several here I have been interacting with and offering peanuts. Over time they have become very comfortable with me and my wife and will come and take a peanut off my leg or arm. The stinkers will now scream or click at me if I haven't haven't come baring a peanut. I swear they have at least a 100 peanuts hidden in the ground, bushes and tree's that when I don't give them any, they will go bust in to a stash location.
  7. I doubt anything is wrong. My Grey only weighed on average 430 during his first 2 years and I have always been able to feel his keel bone sticking out. In his 3rd year though 4th he slowly began putting on more weight and has since then averaged 485. Even now, I can feel his keel bone sticky out distinctly. I suspect it has to do with the activity level of individual greys. Dayo is always active whether flying, trashing toys or just climbing around. By the videos I have seen of Greycie, she is VERY active as well and is just in very good shape with almost no fat. But anytime you have doubts, it is always best to go get a precautionary check up and see what your avian vet thinks.

    Watermelon rind?

I'm with BaileysPapa on this and remove the outer skin as well. It's easy to do. I do find my parrots only eat the juicy sweet portions of any melon and toss the rest with great gusto. Speaking of which I absolutely cleaning all the floor and walls in that area afterwards. But the joy of watching them dig in is worth it.
  9. Loved this video. It brough back many wonderful memories. We purchased an Greater Indian Hill Mynah from the local pet store in 1971 and had it until it died at 25 years old. It brought a ton of joy to us and our children for all those years. Thanks for sharing this video.
  10. I have nothing more to say about a good rounded "Fresh" diet which others have so well pointed out. You grey will be a much happier and healthier if you follow all this advice.
  11. Awwww Sully loves you very much. I love the sound and behavior. Just don't encourage it to escalate by rubbing the back or belly and you'll be fine.
  12. Welcome Angie and Greycie, it's GreYt having you here. The others have given good advice on experimenting and changing up the veggies, fruits and the way they are prepared etc. I look forward to hearing more.
  13. Welcome Brak and Budu, it is GreYt having you here. Thanks for the introduction. I look forward to hearing more and seeing photos when you have a chance.
  14. Happy homeconing anniversary day> You rook maaaarvelous compared to a year ago. I can only imagine how you will thrive over the next year. What a wonderful home you landed in.
  15. I love hearing about Gracie. The only down side to their speech capabilities, is they are brutally honest. Now if we could just teach them proper etiquette in not sharing too much in mixed company. Thanks for sharing this.
  16. Well, at this point in time I cannot think of a better description. As you said, even a bird with diabetes does not drink water like that. I do believe a bird can exhibit OCD, like chronic pluckers for example. They are almost impossible to stop. They did not start out that way, but over time developed it. Inaras link had some good thoughts and the link detailed a possible cause of drinking water. But, a bird with salt toxicity will not drink water to that extent either. They will drink a lot, but not drain the container and purger themselves until it's all gone for as many containers you decide to continue refilling.
  17. Wow, this almost sounds like obsessive compulsive behavior. I have never heard of one drinking water like you describe. Have you ever considered seeing if your grey may still like a morning and/or evening formula feeding? My grey liked to have feedings until he was around 9 months old and then just started rejecting them. Maybe see if this might slow down the drinking of water behavior. We have a very experienced grey breeder on this forum named Dave. I hope he perhaps can shed some light on this.
  18. I use the Avian sun 5.0 bulb. The new stand should reach that high unless your talking about have the playtop model and your wanting to place the lamp 18 inches above the highest point of the play top. My cage is not a play top, it is a round top cage a little over 5 feet tall. When dayo is perched on his favorite spot, the lamp is 12 " from the top of his head because it has already burned in. When it was new, it easily adjusted to 18 " above his head.
  19. Welcome to the forum. Isaac is beautiful, thanks for sharing these photos. I look forward to hearing more and seeing more photos as time progresses.
  20. Inara is spot on. Get ready for a battle of will and stick it out. Positive reinforcement of the sounds that are acceptable will win over time.
  21. Use the new model, it is a much better stand. Place it directly over the cage as shown in the photo so it is 12 " above (On initial burn in place it 16 " away for the first 30 days)the top of your greys head when he is sitting on his favorite perching area. It will not create a burn or damage eyes. That only happens when people place them shining in from the side and too close to the birds face. Just follow the instructs that come with the avian sun lamp and all will work perfectly.
  22. Though I hate the thought of birds being taken by raptors. It is a cycle of life that maintains balance in nature. So I thought I would share this with those that might be interested in just how accurate falcons are and why in this new study that breaks new ground: http://www.nbcnews.com/science/screeee-bird-cams-reveal-how-falcons-attack-their-prey-2D11939820
  23. I enjoy reading all your new posts on miss G's antics. It is so wonderful to come and check up on what's new today. I am so happy for you and Gilda. Many good times a head is what I see when I put the karnak hat on.
