"When I try to close the door to go to bed she sticks her foot in the door like a pushy salesman, nudges the door open with her head and quickly positions herself for another scritch." Wow, that must make you feel very wanted and needed by her! That is such a touching mental image your description painted. The scared child needing reassurance that someone is there to help them through their fear.

Greywings provided excellent information. Perhaps the issue is reversible if fed a proper diet over time and Calcium, D3 levels etc. are built up to correct levels. You can ask the Vet to perform a blood test to see where those levels presently are. Thanks for taking in a Grey in need of a loving and caring home!

How cool that Sophie was supportive. LOL, I hope College is going well for him.

"PS - it's good to see a post from you, Dan. So are you back & better than ever now?" Yes, actually it was my wife going through a bad year and required 3 surgeries and rehab's after each. It was a full time job helping her and working at the same time. Life is much better now that we are out of that dark and cloudy storm.

Holy Cow!!! I take a medical absence from the Forum for almost a year and the entire Gilgirl world has turned in to a world to be explored and contact with Humans is being enjoyed. I am soooooo happy for you. You have put years in on her recovery from abuse and set a shining example for all to follow. I love your "Never give up" attitude. I totally enjoyed watching the videos and my jaw dropped to floor seeing Gilgirl getting relaxing scratches from you during that evil and frightening Thunderstorm.

Most Greys are fairly reserved in terms of vocalizing humanese until they find something intriguing enough to speak. He obviously thought something said was entertaining or perhaps silly. It's hard to hold in a laugh while you don't want people you are eaves dropping on and would have rather just appeared to have not been discovered doing so.... This first interaction in regards speech is a Greyt signal more will be coming over time.

It's GreYt to hear you and GB have hit it off and are enjoying time together. After being caged for 5 years it is very impressive on his part to be so bold so fast. As those onion layers slowly peel back you will be both surprised and amazed at what GB do and say I suspect.

Your all nuts! I only fret 23 hours a day, I take an hour for myself!
-
Hoping the best for you.

Maybe He's a Vampire! The bites are a big clue to support this theory. Him being noisy is a good thing I would think.

Welcome! Is this the cage he lived in before coming to your Home? If so it is his safe place. A new home is a scary environment he has not yet mapped out to the nearest 1mm accuracy. You are doing a GreYt job of taking it slow and going with the flow by his lead. Your previous Grey experience is certainly guiding you. I am begging to think the fart sound is a natural response of complete disapproval and dislike of what's happening. I know Dayo has never heard that in our home.

Yes, I have been busy with health issues my wife has been going through the last 9 months. Now 3 surgeries later, healing and all the physical therapy over life is getting back to normal. It could have played a roll in Dayos over preening as well with his love muffin not around for days and a few weeks at a time. he is still the same character as well and keeps us and himself entertained. I can still picture all the Videos I have watched of Isaac and it brings a smile just thinking about him and his large personality. Speaking of which, got any more?

GreYt post Dave and others! They are such complex and intelligent birds, who can know what is going on in their mind? We guess, try various things, watch for even the slightest change in behavior, the back to the drawing board.... Since we moved two years ago, Dayo has started over preening since about 6 months after we moved here. He looks tattered in spots, but not plucked. It has driven to concern of course and I try many different things as other have mentioned. The bottom line is I know the surroundings, various noises etc. that may be contributing. My wife and I have not changed the way we interact with him at all and we have a great time together. Maybe this will pass, maybe it won't, but I do know it's not us. The same holds true for you Stephen, it is the Grey genius probably trying to solve a mathmetical probability of folds in time and it's got him frustrated until he solves it. Just love him and yourself, chill and enjoy. I know you are doing all you can to help him.

I would love to see a video when she goes wild again.

Dear Pepper, help is on the way. I have notified the SPCA officials of this deplorable abuse and they will be there shortly and provide you with the home of your dreams and a loving companion not someone who considers themselves and owner.

Aging is a sad thing. You know this grey was loved and well taken care of by the original owner. Before I reach that point in life, I will find a good and loving home for Dayo. It will be heartbreaking for us and Dayo, but it is the only in the furtue to ensure he is cared for and loved as much as he was here from infancy. Thanks for sharing this.

Wow, it's GreYt to hear Miss Gilbert got lost in the moment. Once means more will be coming!

LOL Dave. Still the same old smarty pants this new year. Good question though. Good luck with changing the free will of a Grey...

Happy New Year to you too Steve and Misty!

I always enjoy watching Miss Dayo. Thanks for sharing this.

GreYt thread. Thanks for starting this Chezron. The mind of a grey is truly awe inspiring.

Yes, Dayo does indeed make Parrotese sounds. Perhaps you just need to employ a much more acute awareness of what you may be missing when he makes a short sound your just used to or out of the normal. Dayo makes some sounds, so low in volume that he must be on one of our shoulders to be heard. They are very endearing muffled huff's, a deep throat groan like sound, a short puff of air whisking through his throat etc. Louder sounds are a very sorrowful/disappointed sound he makes when a response like "just a minute", " I have to take Mommy to the Doctor", "You cannot get out yet" etc. he receives to a request or wants to know where we are going or what we are doing. he makes a very loud "Dink" sound when he receives an answer he simply will not accept or our response is completely wrong in respect what he was asking. None of the sounds I have described are anything we have ever made, from some type of noise that occurs in our home or one that he has heard on TV for example. They are truly his own. Now what they speak/sound like in the wild, I have no clue except from what we can glean from wild footage and listening to them. They no doubt all have that instinctual Growl from birth, but other than that I just do not know what other sounds may indeed be instinctual, maybe the huffing they all do when excited for some loving. It is still a dream of ours to go to the Cameroon area and just observe them for an extended period of time and record as much as possible.

Hi Dee - Your right, it's almost 24/7 work. William is a new name he picked up due to him watching our neighbor across the street come, go and stop and talk to me when I am out there. Dayo finally asked "Who's that?". So of course my reply was William. Dayo is always interested in having the name of anyone whom comes to our home or he see's us conversing with. I can only attribute that to the fact that every Grey in a flock has a unique name they are called by. Names are very important to him. He picks up most new words in one day that he finds valuable. A note of interest that almost floored me yesterday, was my wife always needs help to get up from our sofa. I was in the back doing something and Kim got up on her own! That is a first time in months she was able to do that. Dayo watched her do it and said "WOW, good job!!!". We tell him that all the time when he accomplishes something. Evidently he thought her getting up on her own was a significant accomplishment.

Just realized when I had a break from a very busy schedule over the last 5 months that I had not posted one of these morning chat videos for a long time. I have been very busy due to my wife's health, just had a hip replaced 8 weeks ago and been going to therapy 2x a week. She will be having the other hip replaced Oct 8th... So I will remain very busy between her and working from home ( software engineering and blessed to be able to work from home the last 3 years). Any way, I hope all the new comers enjoy this and also all those of you whom we have been privileged to know and love over these last 7 years on the Forum. You have watched Dayo grow from a 6 week old baby to know 7 years old. As I have yours as well. Leaving in a few to take wife to therapy. Oh and I believe he is thinking Pizza for Breakfast ... NOT!!! Enjoy!
