Char gave GreYt responses. This is a very tough question as a whole. Your Son sounds like a very responsible and all around wholesome young soon to be teen with a ton of activities. Only you and husband can make such large decisions based upon your willingness to take on the responsibility for this new Grey perhaps completely in time. I young person always wants things, gets them and then looses interest after a while. That could or could not end up happening, but it's likely as life happens, personalities change with age, activities and friends. I would recommend getting a separate cage as Char did. The bird would need to be in the "Office" with you and the other Grey during the day. As a baby, it is going to need and want a lot of attention. It is possible Dixie will fill in some of this, but you just never know. Greys for the most part stick to themselves as a species, unlike Conures for example. A different type of Parrot may want to be friends with Dixie, but it is highly probable that Dixie will not. Another consideration also, is that you've only had Dixie for maybe 2 months or a little longer and the bonding and trust process is still taking place. I wish you good luck in making the decision only you can ultimately make. :-)

I Smoke and I know it has health effects on Parrots, humans etc. Parrots and other birds of course are much more susceptible to anything airborne due to their much more active respiratory system than ours. Smoking is and has not been allowed in our home for over 20 years. All smoking is done outside and the inside guests are never exposed to it. I am uncertain of any nicotine on hands being directly transmitted to anything,since it would need to build up for a while to leave any type of residue sufficient to rub-off on to something else. Most of us, I would hope wash our hands several times a day just due to all types of contaminants that could harm our birds or pass on germs to people we're around. ;-)

A birdmart is normally held in some large facility. It is entirely comprised of breeders with their birds of all types, toy manufacturers, cage resellers, food products in upto 50lb sacks for those with tons of parrots and breeders etc. cf737 - This all I could find in your area: http://www.parrotclub.ca/springfling.htm

Your not losing it Char. I think a lot more of us speak to our birds as if they understand everything. :-) I do believe they understand tons more than they can verbalize. I'll bet your greys probably looked around when you asked where the remote was.

Oh I loved those videos of Adaya. She is surely enjoying it from her sounds in between a long squawk and a growl. She obviously loves playing on her back and has full trust in "MommY". Thanks for psoting these. :-)

You were justified in being upset, as any us would have. I have ordered items from them several times and never had an issue. I also like all their constant specials they send email alerts on. My orders have always arrived in timely manner. I'm glad you got that all sorted out and your travel cage is on the way. :-)

Congratulations!!! B&G are beautiful. :-) My wife and I were interested in one at the Birdmart. But, it was VERY aggressive, which I suspect was just due to the high volume of people walking by and standing and of course the morons trying to stick their fingers in there (Wish they would have gotten bitten). I actually felt sorry for the birds I looked at, they were all cramped into small cages (I know, they had to get them to the mart) and they were all obviously very freaked out.

Well, your all doing better than me. I am lucky to catch 1 of 10. If I catch him and place him where he needs to go and tell him "Go Poop" he'll do it, but......... I walk around with him on my shoulder so much and am busy doing things that I don't realize he just backed up, parked and squatted until I feel that damn warm moisture on my back.

Good point Spooky, your right and that is a concern. :-) I have not taken him yet. I just got him home and settled in. I had to return to San Jose for work and have asked the vet if I can possibly be squeezed in on Saturday morning, which they are only open half a day. Thanks for bringing this up, others will benefit from it also. You just never know and it's better to be safe than sorry. :-)

That GreYt news.:-) Dayo does the same, he eats Harrison's or fruity blend pellets now and then, but his main diet is a high quality mix from kaytee with seeds, nuts in the shell, dried fruits and pellets. then of course all types of veggies, a little fruit, eggs with RPO 2x a week, our "House Special" 15 legume mix with oat groats, flax seed, pasta of different types and RPO lightly mix in. Of course, our meals are also consumed by him. I believe the more variety of food types you provide as a diet, the happier and healthier your bird will be. :-)

Well, one possible cause, could be, due to the intelligence of these parrots. They decide, that if they make themselves smooth skinned like us humans, and only leave the head feathers (Hair on humans. That they will be fully accepted in the flock as "Human" and be given the same previliges of full house previleges, no need for a cage anymore (I'm one of you) and look, my wings look just like your arms too. Do you accept me now as one of you, fully a member of the flock?????? I've done everything i can think of....

I had him on my shoulder while playing with the attached toys, showed him the Almonds in the cup, but it was a no-go. I did this several times yesterday and tried to get him to step up on it, but he would just look at it then walk behind my head, to block the view of that "Evil" thing. I figure in about 3 days he will be on it. In regards Jake, I am keeping him locked in his cage until he recovers fully and gains all his strength back. I don't want to have him being chased by Dayo right not due to Jakes long and bad experience outdoors.
