confused

It sounds like Murphy just wants to be close to you. :-) I love it when Dayo does that.
2. Awwww, Sterling sounds like such a friendly U2 and I'll bet in no time he wil be all snuggled up in that blanket. They are known for being real cuddle muffins. :-)
3. Wow, VERY nice ladder Nick!! You highly talented to have built this. I am sure Partner will have lots of fun on it, once he gets used to it. :-)

New Bird ..

Judy made many good observations. You rescued this Grey. It must have come from a shelter or rescue facility. Can you give any further information on how it was kept at the facility you got it from? How long it was at the facility, how it interacted with those people etc.? It does look like you are going to just have to watch as this bird interacts with the males in the house. The good news is it is interacting. Why not give it a little time to adjust to the new surroundings and family? Let it learn that this is a good home, safe, loving and no bad things going on. Just by being there, offering treats and maintaining friendliness with him or her will work wonders over time as you have already been doing in taking care of his cage, food and water. Looking forward to hearing more from you about this grey and it's progress. :-)
5. I'm very sorry to hear this Mark. I know it's heartbreaking. Best thoughts and wishes to you in this time of sorrow.
6. Adaya is having a lot of fun on that new Atom. Very cute video and photos, thanks for sharing them. :-)
7. Awww, what a pretty baby TAG. :-) Thanks for sharing it and good luck getting any sleep for another few weeks with all those babies to feed. ;-)
8. I ditto Judy and Jan. All Greys and other birds, get feathers out of place in weird directions like that. They take care of them their selves. :-)
9. Judy's right. Your Grey will take care of the Feather and she's not mad at you. She is just upset with the cat and herself for damaging her own feather. Anytime they have an incident like that, it takes them a little while to settle down and let the adrenalin leave their system.
10. I loved Alex and Me! It gave a real insight to the very close personal side of their relationship and also the struggles they went through together to get to where they were. I did, the same, laughed, cried, laughed, cry etc. I think it's time to read it again. :-) Dayo is by no means even close to the level Alex was at. I am just trying to expose him to all the things I know they can learn by Dr. Irene Pepperbergs work and a lot more. I have only taught Dayo 1 - 5 for now to get him to understand the concept of counting items, starting easy at first, but thats NOT easy. Just figure he has 1 in 5 odds of answering correctly, without REALLY knowing the answer. When he gets to 80 percent correct constantly, then I will feel he has truly grasped it properly. But, one thing I do believe, is everyone of our Greys are easily capable of this. They all have high intelligence and it's just a matter of how much work and patience each person has to share with their Greys. I try to make everything, ,mean something. The exceptions of course are the Andy Griffith whistle song and the Evil AWE_AWE_AWE..........gotta put some fun in there. :-) I know Tobie is very advanced also from watching your videos of him. I love it for example when you turn the radio on and he tells you to "Turn the Radio Off!!". :-)

Post edited by: danmcq, at: 2009/07/08 03:38

12. dhorje wrote: They do indeed!! Dayo and my conure both throw their bowls if I have them out of the cage and see to relish the sound. Dayo broke two of our coffee cups throwing them into the sink.:pinch: Now we must place them far away from anywhere he can grab and throw them from.

He is not perfect at it yet, I just started trying to get him to understand you can count anything, including sounds. Not just blocks I place in front of him. When he goes into one of his "Talking Spells" relaxing, he takes off on a roll of certain phrases and sounds. Later that same day or perhaps the next, he will take off on a completely different set of words, phrases and sounds. I figure it would be too much for them to run down everything they know, it would last for waaaaaay too long. :-) I believe he is calibrating further and also mixing words sometimes to see if they make sense, get a reaction or just simply sound goods to him. :-) Does Tobie do this as well?

15. Congratulations Jooles!!! The first word is always so exciting to hear. He is getting everything calibrated and mumbling as they all do. The flood gates will be opening shortly. Have a chair ready to break your fall when he shocks you unexpectedly.
16. Welcome Roland and Pinky!! It's GreYt having you here. :-) He is one fine looking Grey. I would certainly suggest getting a new cage if his present one is the cage in the photo. The bars are way too thin for a Medium sized Parrot like a Grey. He will bend and break those bars loose fairly easy and they will become a danger to him. Looking forward to hearing more and seeing more photos as you get a chance.
17. Awwww, congratulations on having Sterling brought as an addition to your home. He could not have found a better home. :-) The photo shows he is beautiful and from your description, he has just plugged himself right in to being a member of your flock. Karma to you for bringing this TOO into your home and life.
18. I agree with the others, he is molting. :-)
19. LOL - Loved your response!! :-)
20. JungleDreamz wrote: He said "Hello" one time at 6 months. Then never heard anything but very low mumbles at time until he turned 1yr. Then he just stared blurting out all types of words associated with things. Dayo is 2yr's 2mo's old. Thanks for your comments. :-)
21. Very cool photo and fitting caption. Spock is being true to his name. :-) Now, you better be careful, the next move will be the "Mind Meld". Thanks for posting this!!
22. Yeah, your right Judy, he is.... for the most part...... except when flying like a Dinosaur screaming like a Banshee chasing after Jake through the house.
23. JillyBeanz wrote: Thanks - He loves splashing around on his own as you saw. However, he does not get wet except his belly. So drenchings he hates must take place, much to his disdain.
24. Thanks all. This is a nightly occurrence that we always get a feeling of having a child in the home. Of course, during the day, he is hell on wheels.... :-)
