  1. Hey Stephen, you must get some video's of Isaac on the fan hood, opening the cabinets etc. We who have loved following the antics of Isaac over the years have truly missed you both. I know your busy, but just a one liner every couple of weeks would be greatly appreciated. Dayo is ... well Dayo, and still a riot. Sometimes a good riot and sometimes a bad riot. Maybe I should have named him Loki!
  2. Congratulations on the arrival. I am looking forward to those photos and hearing more.
  3. Thanks for the photos. I am uncertain if you know this, but the url your images are pointing to could indicate you have a virus affecting you web browser. Here is a link explaining it. http://blog.teesupport.com/useful-tips-for-httpsfbcdn-sphotos-a-a-akamaihd-net-virus-removal/
  4. Cute photo, thanks for sharing it with us.
  5. Welcome Jacob and flock. Thanks for the GreYt introduction. I am sorry to hear of the horrific loss of you Eclectus. I look forward to hearing a lot more about your flock and seeing some photos and videos if you have them.
  6. What you describe is completely normal for a baby grey at only 13 weeks old that is fledging, meaning they are just learning to fly. You even see this in nature when a baby bird first decides to fly from the tree their nest is in and they flutter down not knowing where a good landing spot is or how to land really. You always see their parents right behind them. Then you see the parents chirping at them and trying to get them to come to the top of a small bush, a low tree limb etc. for their safety and to start the teaching process of flight. Your grey has a lot of feedback coming in to his brain as he is flapping wings, gaining speed and altitude, visual input scanning the surroundings, now what does he need to do with tail positioning, wing tilt etc.? He is just starting to build those critical neural networks of flight. It will not take him long to figure out where good versus bad landing spots are. To try to keep going straight by seeking out and fly through an apparent opening in a path forward, they fly right in to a window. Thus the need for little stickies on the windows so they can tell it is not an opening. In a very short amount of time, your going to see him landing, turning, slowing down and even hovering for a split second and turn another way. So just as a parent watching their child take off on a bicycle for the first time and crashing frets, so will you. We have all gone through it.
  7. Hi Stephen - Whats ya been up to "Little booooyyyeeee"? LOL I love that. Isaac is such a character. I always look forward to hearing what he's doing.
  8. Mmmm, sounds yummy for Birdy and Human. Now I guess I have a good reason to submit my request to the accounting department (Wife) for a Dehydrator!! Thanks for sharing this.
  9. Chelsea - Perfect photos of exactly what I was describing! Thanks for posting them.
  10. Thought I would pop this thread back to the top. It is a GreYt topic and I believe everyone here can add tons to this thread. All our greys have many commonalities and also individual behaviors. Lets get this rolling again! I hope Also that Elvenking might just pop in as well. Another behavior Dayo does that I know others Greys do as well. Is climb to the top of the cage, grab on the top bars with both Talons, then do a 180 with his body sticking through his legs the wrong way. Looks like it would half to hurt. But it is a common thing he does. What's this behavior? Who the heck knows, maybe Yoga stretches?
  11. Hmmm, thats not really normal. Is it coming from his nostrils as he sleeps? It is possible there could be some mucus build up in the them. Do you ever see any wet discharge around the nares?
  12. Jeff - Very true. I hope as the older generations pass on that it will be a thing people read about in history books and find it amazing that human beings had such strong feelings and beliefs based on race. It makes me sick when I read of certain states here in American that it is still alive and promulgated by "Leaders of the state" that are responsible for all it's citizens well being, not just a certain color.
  13. Yes, here is the link on this forum to Jake's short story, it could be a VERY long one, but just did a basic introduction about him: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?195909-Jake-The-Peach-Front-Conure
  14. Dayo has rolled on his back since a baby only 16 weeks old when playing with toys for example. He'll grab a small ball or other foot toy, flip on his back and attack the crap out of it. He also has always rolled over on my wife's lap when chilling with her and getting scratches. Each grey is different, but I have seen many greys and other parrots that like to roll over on there backs when playing or enjoying snuggle time with their love muffin. Here's a short video of him about 3 years ago rolling over to attack his boing in the wrong place with insufficient room. Thank god he was flighted at that time and flapped down to the floor.
  15. VERY fun video. Happy BUrrrrrrthhhday Greycie, Awww Awwww Awwwwwww on this eerie yet special day.
  16. Seed mixes are prefectly fine for your grey. I would never reccomend cutting them personally. It is a part of the abundance menu. They will eat a little of everything and enjoy a well rounded and healthy diet. Just mix the nuts in with the seed mix or keep them as special treats for good behavior, training etc.
  17. At 13 weeks old he is still a baby. He should be getting 60cc each feeding or until he stops taking it at this age. Most greys are not fully weaned until 16 to 20 weeks. Keep your grey on 2 feeds a day and of course offer seeds, nut's, pellets, mashes etc. all times. Many greys will still enjoy a nice hot formula feeding in the morning or evening even when they are fully weaned. We kept offering Dayo formula until he decided he no longer wanted it at all. That was around 5 months of age.
  18. Gracie's vocabulary is becoming very impressive and her words are very clear. I enjoy watching her videos. Thanks for sharing this.
  19. Well, your description of how your grey responds to you is kind of normal for a grey. They will sometimes let their least favored person give them a scratch and then try to turn quickly and give a nip. The most important thing for you to do, is maintain a neutral emotions. If your apprehensive, afraid or nervous a grey can sense it and will react to it. Just talk him him softly, ask if he want's a scratch and proceed to give a short one while watching his eyes for pinning or the head starting to turn rapidly and just remove your finger quickly if you detect a bite is on it's way. If he puts his head down again, repeat the process. It is a trust building thing that takes time. It also takes time to study their body language to where you can see a bite coming MOST the time, not always. Then over time those scratch sessions will last longer and your grey will come to you for it at times. Give him a treat after he lets you give him a scratch sometimes. Build the relationship.
  20. A general rule of thumb, is you never get another bird hoping it will encourage, befriend or help your existing bird. The pet shop owner is right. Your grey would probably kill another bird if you tried to put it in your greys cage. That is not a good idea. If you have two birds, you get two cages. If your grey presently only likes interacting with one person, it will for the most part remain that way. They normally have a favored person. Also, you may not be able to let the new bird even come close to your grey. It could result in serious injury. The best thoughts I can give you on this. Is try working with your grey more frequently by offering favorite treats, toys etc. to break the ice and get a little better relationship built with him. It will probably never be a relationship as close as the favored persons. But it can be improved to some level.
