Funny I have a history that makes me understand lots of things too. Including old age. lol

Sorry Im not always so good with the writen word. But glad that long post come out the way I intended. I can understand not wanting to go hunting. It's cold and wet most of the and why I have not done a lot of hunting the last few years. Even my Dad seems to have slown down. But he is also 66 years old. lol
-
Yep she can say new things. lol She said Bobby (DH's name) and come here. I laughed at her and she laughed with me. I am thrilled.

Deer meat is much more healthy for you then beef. It has less fat and it taste much better. Also I know where it has been. lol My dad does enjoy a big rack but we also enjoy the meat. In all his years of hunting I don't think to many of the deer he has killed even knew what hit him/her. He and I both don't like to hunt with the use of dogs. You can miss or hurt a deer and never find it. Not only does the deer suffer but its a waste. So he only hunts in clubs that dont use dogs. There are many unethical hunters out there dont get me wrong and I would love to do to them some of the stuff I have heard about and seen but there are just as many that are not. We enjoy the hunt. The tracking and skill that goes along with it. As well as the meat. My Dad and I both have let dear go by without feeling the need to kill them expecially after we have a little meat in the freezer. Because of hunters in this area you never well hear about a mass slaughter like goes on in other states. I remember a few years back Flordia was begging people to come kill some of the deer to save them. There was so many that they were small and sickly. I myself have only kill one deer. Three months after I had my liver transplant. Dropped him with one shot and he did not move. Do we need to hunt for food? No not really but I grew up with hunting and eating deer meat and would really miss it. And if done right no deer suffers for it.

NM I wont comment again cause you are talking about something you seem to know nothing about. Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/06/09 12:16<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/06/09 12:27

Funny how people never want to hear the other side of issues.

What a lucky man you were to be able to share your home with a wild bird.

I use to hunt with my Dad all the time. Still do every now and again. Generally you find here in the south hunting is a way of life for many. I have always disliked the people that hunted just for the kill. Got their pictures and then gave away the meat or worse yet feed it to the hunting dogs. My Dad and I always ate what we killed. And we never killed anything for the sake of killing. Mostly we did Deer hunting. In this area without hunters the deer would be sickly and hungry cause in the south they are all over. They even run up into stores. All that being said I must agree having pictures of dead things is ewwwwwww.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/06/08 05:43

wow so cool. I know someone that has a pet blue jay. It talks and flies all about her house. Unfortantly cant take it to the vet if anything happens cause they well take it.
-
Cool Ill keep tring. Que has been with me since she was 6 months old and is a closet talker. That is why I never really worked with the talking but a couple days ago she said Pretty Puppy in responce to me saying Pretty Bird so thought I would give it a go see if maybe she has decided to be more vocal.

Have you thought of wing clipping? This well help with teaching to stay on perch and also help keep your parrot safe. I keep small stuff toys with my birds (I raise quakers) and when they go to thier new home that toy goes with them. Just be sure to remove eyes, tags, ect... So your baby dont get hurt.
-
I never really taught Que to say things she just sort of picked them up. But lately I have been working on helping her learn new words/phrases. Even though I knew she wont say them to me it might be fun to hear them when she talks to herself. So in the mornings I am repeating good morning. During the day I am working Bobby Wash the dishes and at night when I turn out the lights I say Nite Nite. Is it possable at this late age that she can pick up new words still? Even without any real training. I just repeat them over and over threw out the day.

What's a typical day like for you and your bird?
Tari replied to MickeyandMe's topic in The GREY Lounge
What's a typical day like at your house? Go to work for two hours come home get out one bird. Two hours later the birds rotate and then two hours again rotate the birds. Till all three have out time. (TAG, RLA and the quaker) Sometimes longer sometimes shorter depending on what I need to do that day and how easy it is to catch the cat. How often is your bird out of their cage? Every day for a couple hours. Wish it could be more but its a pain to catch my husbands cat so I can get the birds out. How often are they put on a playstand? When they are out they are always on the playstand or me. I have dogs even when that cat is locked up I cant let them on the floor or anything else. How much time do you spend actually handling your parrot? About 10 to 15 minutes in your face time as I call it. What's your cleaning routine like? Change paper weekly. In the summer I take cages outside to hose off monthly and spot clean with brush and bowl between hosing offs. What time do you cover/uncover their cage? I dont cover at all. How often do you feed them? Once a day. Do you take them outside, in the car, on vacation etc? No they do go in the car to go to the vet but in a carring cage. Sometimes I might take them to the club meetings or to one of the local retirement homes but she goes in a carrier for that too. Not taking any chances on my bird getting away even if she is clipped they can still get away. -
Makes you wonder just how much attention the old owner was paying if she though Gina didnt talk. So glad you bird is feeling at home. Great pictures too.

I have several birds. Do you have room for two cages? Cause its not really a good idea to let them stay together. I spend lots of time with my birds they each get a lot of out of cage time with me. I have three and two budgies that also get time. But I only work part time so have time for this. Some people well let theirs out together on the play gyms or in the "bird" room. I have not been able to do this but since yours are growing up together you should be able too but then again you might not. Good luck

Working with a bird everyday does not mean you well be able to touch them and them like it for their entire lives. My amazon is 25 years old. For 7 years the breeder that had him though he was wild caught and not tame. Then one day he got attacked by a racoon and the breeder found out the bird was tame. This amazon now lives with me and is the sweetest bird. Never bites and loves to have his feathers ruffled. On the ohter hand my grey whom I have had since she was 6 months of age just up and decided one day she did not like her feathers ruffled. Both these birds get the same everyday attention. She will let me touch her but only if I make her and she will try to bite when I make her. I have to towel her first. It happens, some birds dont like to be touched. Its normal so dont beat yourself up if your bird don't like it. It don't mean she/he don't still see you as his specail someone. I still have just as close a relationship with my grey as I did when she use to ask to be petted. She dont ask anymore but thats ok she is still my baby.
-
I use zupreem cause I can't get the other without shipping it. But to be honest Its just a filler. I feed 90% fruit/veggies/pasta/rice/ect... and the rest is zupreem mixed with seed mix.
-
I have a TAG and she started talking at 6 months. But my understanding is TAG's tend to talk sooner then CAG's. I have nothing to compair her too so don't know how true that is. She is 8 years old now and says a few things not a lot. However she may say more then I know cause she wont talk if she thinks I can hear her. She is a closet talker.
-
My Que is a female. I was told this by the breeder cause of her eye shape. I had her DNA'd and yep she is a she. But hey the chances were 50/50 she was right. lol
-
My grey is 8 years old and still gets warm food from a spoon. When I have babies to handfed she gets the left overs once a day still. This is a good thing if I have have to medicate it well be easier.
-
How old is the bird? How old is your daughter? How big is the cage? What is around when she bites? Have you moved anything in the room? What colors are you wearing when she bites? Have you changed anything? Hair color hair style? Is someone standing to close to your daughter when she bites?
