1. I have a perch with a suction cups on it that is in the shower. However it has been known to fall. So far without a bird on it but Im going to get rid of it and use a shower rod in the middle of the shower for the birds. This however means I can't have them in the shower with me. I would like to be able to do that too. Anyone have any suggestions? Or maybe you can tell me how you shower your parrots.
2. Tari

HELP!

I must agree with Celery give her a lot of love right now. That is as long as she well let you. Bless you for taking on a second hand bird. Your a hero.
3. If I had the money and lived near by Id go get that bird. But I do have more then four birds.......
4. Hmm not sure but when you have a bird on your hand and they nip if you do a slight wobble every time. Not an earthquake don't want him to fall but just a slight wobble so they have to stop what they are doing to grip better. In now time most birds well stop nipping. Ill need to look up something on that. Its something I learned from a quaker book. lol Cause they can be nippy too. Don't put the bird in its cage either, should it bite. This only reinforces territoriality about the bird's cage, and the parrot will quickly equate bite = back to cage. The bird will then bite whenever and however often it feels like going back to its cage. A good bite correction is a wobble. If the bird is perched on your hand, and bites, drop your hand quickly. The bird loses it's balance and has to release the bite. This is unpleasant (imagine the floor dropping out from under you unexpectedly.) but effective. The bird soon learns to associate "bite = wobble", and will stop biting when on a hand. Found that at. http://www2.upatsix.com/faq/tame.htm

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/07/21 19:20
5. Once you get the bird stepping up you can use the wobble correction for the biting. It worked great with the three I had here for retraining. All but one stopped biting before they were sold.
6. So sorry but I just had to laugh. I can just see your bird planing the next poop. Which direction and seeing if she can hit that chair across the room. Oh hun I know it can be upsetting my budgies seem to do the same thing with their seed. Lets see how far we can throw it today. {Feel-good-0002006E}
7. Sorry that is one of the many things birds do. Some are worse about it then others. I have been lucky so far but out at the farm where I work many of the birds do that. Those Caiques and Conure seem to be the worse. Got a couple macaws that are bad about that too. All you can do is clean it up. PS Oh my friend keeps plastic under her cages you can use a shower curtain a cheep one and pick up and toss in wash. Get two one to put down as soon as one comes up.

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/07/21 17:58
8. Green checks are famous for being nippy but it can be worked around/with. Good luck with your new bird. Funny how they wont keep a bird cause it wont get along with another bird. They were not well informed were they? As long as they didn't plan to cage together seems they should of worked it out. Sounds like a lame excuse to get rid of a nipper. Sorry just rambling. Love the pictures. Hope you can get a head shot to enter in the contest in the other bird area.

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/07/21 17:52
9. Yep I have read it and really enjoyed it. And the centerfold blue quaker is great.
10. Think I have a total of about 50 us dollors in that one. But I spent to much on the twine found it at a hardware store much cheeper then online. So you could get away with about 40 I bet.
11. Ok you should of warned us we might need a tissue. Great job. Seeing Jade in there of course made me cry but boy he was one good looking green quaker.
12. Brian looks so clean. lol Thank you for sharing his pictures.
13. There is a picture of that stand in my profile. My husband made that for me with the help of this book. "Parrot-Toys & Play Areas How to put some fun into your parrot's life" A must have book for all parrot owners. Im going to redo the gym soon though its way to big and the birds dont use but one area. Ill post a new picture when I redo it again this well be the third time. lol
14. lol ya she needs a nail trim bad. I hate doing them. But is cost way to much to have the vet do them. Think Ill do it today or maybe take her with me to work in the morning and have my friend hold her while I do them.
15. Wow 22 and he well be there for you all your life. That must be awsome. My Que is only 8 years old but I am looking forward to growing old with him.
16. Very very short I need a new memory card for my picture camera. Oh and the movie is not the best either but you can see the quaker quake for which they are famous.
17. My birds are not allowed on the floor. That is where the dogs live. I never let them out unless I am there right beside them. I do have one cat I have to put up when the birds are out. If you dog is a terrier or some kind of hunting breed Id put it up with the bird is out. Around here if a bird should happen to hit the floor the dogs move away from it.
18. I don't introduce my birds. Yes they can see each other but they are all allowed there own out time with me and never together. Guess I am a chicken cause way to many things can go wrong. But Im sure someone well come along that has done this or does do this.
19. I play with new toys all the time when I interduce them to Que I also hang them outside the cage and wait till I see her tring to beak them threw the wires before I move them in. You have gotton some great advice on how to work this out. I am so thilled you have taken this one. I have a couple rescue birds and while I am so glad to have them they were and one still is a lot more work then the birds I got as babies. Your my hero.
20. Do we have to dress up again? Dang it.
21. Sorry Im really not sure. She has it in her feet and I think her jaw cause her beak never closes anymore. Her color is very off too. The blue part is more green these days. But she seems happy. Eats better then most of the birds out there.
22. Not sure about Grey's. I know macaws do. The parrot farm I work at has a retired 70 plus blue and gold macaw she is very crinkled and have arthritis.
23. Unfortanly you cant hug Que or snuggle in anyway. All you can do is admire and throw kisses that she well throw back. lol
