1. Has your bird been to the vet yet? I would take her to the vet that maybe why she is quite cause she is ill. I would also stick train her then as she gets more use to stepping up just start shorting the stick. Think I would stop using a toothbrush to pet her. Many Grey's don't like to be petted so I would stop that and take the cues from her as to weather you pet her or not. A wing trim would also be a good idea when your at the vets get them to do it for you. It well help with training and bonding to you if she has to depend on you to get around. Good luck
2. Plan to get a before picture and get a new picture every week. I sure hope this plan works.
3. What a great post. Thank you and I would like to add it has been proven that it does not have to over heat for fumes to be released into your house. So THROW IT OUT now. Not after your bird dies.
4. Ok after reading my own post a couple times I have decided to get some aloe and try treating it there and not bring it home. She also has a toy box I can go threw and change out some of their toy.
5. I have this problem. Out on the farm where I work is a tiel that is plucking. She is two years old and she started this in the spring of this year. I don't want to buy the bird and I can't afford to take it to the vet but the lady I work for has given me permission to bring the bird home and see if I can help it with home remedies. I'm not really fond of tiels and this one is not tame. It is in a cage with five other tiels and no one is sick nor is anyone else plucking so I think it started cause of breeding season and now it is irritated and itchy. I think with lots of baths and aloe Vera it may get better. Should I at least try and then try to find a forever home or leave it there? I may be able to talk her into letting me have it but I am still paying for the last visit to the vet and my husband would have a fit if I charged another bird that I'm not even going to keep and would never get the money back on. Or I could leave her there and get some aloe and spray here five days a week.

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/09/14 23:00
6. I would not encourage anyone to hand fed with the help of this video. You need to be trained by someone that has been doing it a long long time. Training should be done with many lessons. Id say no less then at least five and be able to have contact with that person at all times for the first couple years. Way to many things can go wrong. I really hate seeing this here or anywhere on the net. It encourages people to do something they should not do.
7. hmmm really not sure. We use some out at the farm on some cages from the hardware store. But no clue.
8. You'll love it here. Great place to learn.

Ok gang you got till Sunday to get them posted. Come on you can do it. :side:
12. Find an avain vet and get there asap.
13. Closed aviaries usually only mean you can't see the breeders. They should still have a room for people to come see the babies. If they don't that can only mean one thing, in my opinion, it means they are hiding something and you don't want to deal with someone that won't at least let you come see the babies.
14. That cage size sound great for ONE breeder pair. They need more perches and they need toys. As far as diet goes take a look at the food forum. I have a post with picture for what I feed the 60 plus breeders I feed. I am sure if you set down next to them in a chair they well settle down and then you can watch them and be able to tell with just a little time who is hanging out with who and then move them that way. Im sorry I am having a really hard time reading your post. Less abbreviations would help. Thank you

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/09/14 16:43
15. Do you have a good relationship with a dog vet? They can at least make up some cipro a good all around antibiotic maybe? Or call an avian vet that can tell them how to mix it up and dose it? Birds are very good at hiding illness. She could have an infection for months and you never know till it is to late. And are you sure there is not one around? My avian vet is not listed on the internet but he is certified. Maybe ask around or find a near by parrot club. Even if you have to drive a little ways to get to the vet it well be worth your birds life. And good to know for the future and you need to take that grey for a well bird check up ASAP anyways.
16. As Dan has said. Very bad idea. I wish you luck with your search.
17. So what did the vet say? She should at least be on antibiotics. Something could be going on behind the beak you can't see. And yes cracks do sometimes grow together. Glad she is doing well.
18. If you think she is getting to cold covering her with plastic well work wonders to keep out draft in the winter time. I do this for my amazon cause he is prone to getting birdie colds.
19. Wow that is one wet grey. Great picures.

21. I have seen her at an AFA convention. She was funny and had a wealth of info on birds and how smart they are. I really enjoyed it.
