  3. Yes I would love to know how or if it works out. Good or bad. I wish I was brave enough to let mine play together. But the risk is to high and vet bills are to high. lol
  4. Ok here is my "trick" Could not get hubby to touch the camera so had to go with this. For some reason when I upload I lose my sound. Anyway she is 9 years old this month and well still accept food this way. She does however prefer a spoon. 5. You got some great replies here and I really don't have anything to add except they are the most re homed around here. They can be loud and yes they are very needy.
  6. looks like new baby pictures are in order they are all feathered out now and look like grown ups. lol
  7. In genereal parrots do not attack each other in the wild. Even when they are defending a next from anouther parrot the offending parrot well fly away rather then fight. I have seen and read that parrots very rarely bite each other in the wild in other places also. See if I can find more. http://www.naturalencounters.com/images/Publications&Presentations/Biting_Its_Not_For_The_Birds-Steve_Martin.pdf<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/09/08 14:14
  8. The thing you have to remember is in the wild they have LOTS of room to get away from birds they don't like. Wild birds don't bite each other they make lots of noise get tall and try to scare the other off to a different tree. In our homes they can't do that and that is why they hurt each other. Breeder birds tend to be kept in much larger cages then we keep in out homes and have very little human contact so that keeps down the fighting. Not they they don't fight cause they still hurt each other but not as often. My amazon Joey is wild caught and his mate still beat him and hurt him (luckly not real bad just cuts and scraps) he is the sweetest pet but for some reason can't seem to get along with others. I have a quaker that was set up to breed but he too could not get along with other birds he would guard the food boul and try to hurt the other birds. That is why Dandy lives with me now.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/09/08 13:38

    Alex is dead

There was a post on one of the other forums I visit a lot. I checked it out to make sure it was not a joke. You can see it at the link I posted.
  11. So the story goes. He was fine one day and when Irene come in the next morning he was dead. Suppose to be a formal announcement on Monday or Tuesday. My prayers are with Irene in this time of grief. http://www.alexfoundation.org/ Please click here for the ALEX MEMORIAL. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/30717-alex-memorial.html#30719 Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/09/08 01:23<br><br>Post edited by: Talon, at: 2007/09/08 05:02
  12. I saw a falcon last week on the powerline over looking out bird feeder. That is what would happen to my parrots if I let them outside.
  13. You'll just have to keep them apart. Your problem is why I keep telling people don't get a pet for your pet but get a pet for you and call it a bonus if they can even stand each other. Parrots kept in close quarters is just not "natural" to them. In the wild they can get away from that offensive parrot and they never hurt each other. But in our homes there is rarely enough room to get away and it can get nasty. Maybe take one or two to live at home with you?
  14. Wow really surprised none of you take your Grey's with you. I take mine to a lot of places. I want her to be comfortable with travel in case she needs to go to the vet or stay with a friend. She has never had any problems with this and I started this from the beginning. Sometimes I just let her ride to the drive threw at fast food places or if it has been a while I take her around the block.
  15. http://www.greyforums.net/understanding-your-grey/african-grays-with-other-birds.html Not sure what is going on this question has been asked at least three times this week and we have an article on it. So thought I would post it right here and sticky it. Hope it helps.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/09/07 21:52
  16. No idea No idea And it is never a good idea to buy a pet a pet. More then likely they wont bond and they may/can really hurt each other. If you want a second pet get what you want and be prepared to keep them separate at all times. http://www.greyforums.net/understanding-your-grey/african-grays-with-other-birds.html<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/09/07 21:47

    QUESTIONS

They feed their mates and babies. So he is just showing birdy love.
  18. If you can take him with you that would be the best thing to do. In the mean time you need to get him use to someone outside the family that can tend to him when you have to be away and cant take him. Over nighters with a second caregiver is a good idea provided they have a spare room so he is not exposed to their birds. Best thing too is if you have one join the local bird club. In my club we keep each others pets when it is needed.

    Sick Rio...

This is why it is important with ALL new birds to keep it in a separate room for 45 days and take them to the vet ASAP after you get them.

    Sick Rio...

Can you visit a lot? Feather chewing can mean a lot of things. Illness can cause that. Boredom. Can you take her toys? Well they let you mist her? Have they done blood test to rule out other illnesses? A bird that chews feathers even if you never stop it can still be a great pet. But it can also mean more vet bills. So that is something you'll have to wager out. Is there not any breeders in your area? If you think of getting a different bird I would strongly recommend you look for a breeder. Good Luck

    QUESTIONS

Question one. Sounds like he is in love with your husband and is wanting to feed him. Question two. I have wood floors and what I do is mix up some or the same stuff I use on the floor only stronger in a spray bottle then soak the spots let it sit while I do other things come back with a brush and clean scrub it off. If you have nice wood floors (I don't they are a mess) you may want to get some plastic mats or put down a shower curtain on the floor so you don't discolor it. Hope this helps.
  22. Hmm bad guy names huh? Well lets see ummmm How about Jafar think that is how you spell that mean parrots name from Aladdin. Or Rasputin? Is that spelled right either? lol
  23. There is no way to know if any bird would be friends with Atlas. So you might have to get a few before one works with Atlas and that might not be the best route either. Can you do some fostering? That would be rescuing some birds and keeping them separate for 45 days to make sure the rescue birds are germ free. And then if it don't work looking for a forever home for the foster bird? Not sure if it works like that or if you have rescue near you. I know its not good for birds to bounce from home to home but in the case of a rescue maybe..... Just thinking aloud here. lol Sounds like he is adjusting just fine with out any "friends" with feathers. How about a mirror in his room? Did I read this right and you said you let them fly outside? Is this in a pen of some sort? Or free flying? A very few people do that and I would love to see something like that but no way would I risk it with mine. But it must be a pretty sight to see your bird fly. Last time my Grey's wings grew out and she took flight she ran into everything (small house) and hurt his cere so no more flying for her.
  24. If she gets along with you then you have a keeper. I just love babies. Thank you for sharing the picture.
