On another grey forum one of the members knows of someone who has a grey that was attacked by their dog and it tore off one of its wings. Now they don't want the bird anymore, she didn't say why, and want to give it away and this member is thinking of adopting it. How sad that they were careless and the bird was mained but now they don't want it probably because it is not perfect anymore. I don't think the bird is but a little over 1 year of age. How frightening for the grey to have to go thru that. My heart goes out to that bird. :( :( :( :(
As far as the palm nuts, I assume either the nut or the fleshy part would be ok for them. The fleshy part is where they get the palm oil from and I include a little of that in her warm food in the morning.
Beccy is right, any kind of smack on the beak is not going to cause nothing but trouble. They don't understand the concept of punishment. You have to use positive reinforcement. If you strike them they will only bite more. Turning the back and walking away will accomplish more because like the others said they don't like to be ignored.
Sounds like you made a good decision, but in the meantime just keep putting him back when he gets off and one day after a thousand and one times he may stay.

Well I am glad everything, well almost everything, went great. I have taken mine along for a road trip and I will take her again. Glad you enjoyed taking her.
I believe you are right, Rome68, it has the year but not the sex.
As far as price it varies by region but I wouldn't take any less than $900 for it and I would check out thoroughly whomever wants it to make sure it gets a good and loving home.
I don't know personally, but wouldn't the breeder know about how much it should weigh? I would give him/her a call and ask. Maybe one of the other members knows more since I never had to handfeed one before. Good luck to you with your new one.
You are not wrong, Beccy, and it helps. They are gonna fall from time to time especially if they are very active.
My cage has a playtop on the side of it and it has a hook for hanging a toy, she likes to climb up that and perch for it is the highest place. It is so funny sometimes when she comes down she will let go slightly and slide down the hook, it is so funny.
Eating some pellets at 6 weeks is good, and try offering some fresh or frozen veggies, maybe cooked and warm for him to try. This is how breeders wean them off of hand feedings.
xxbeccyxx you try the same thing and keep offering them and finally one day maybe he will start eating them too.
Sometimes my Josey's poops are a little brown, I don't think it is anything to worry about unless they stay that way. Have you fed her anything different? If you still need peace of mind, give your vet a call and ask him/her what they think.
I visited my little one numerous times before I got to bring her home and she was not that enthusiastic for me either as I was not the caregiver. But things changed when I got her home and now I feel like we have bonded. She turned one year old last Friday and I have had her for over 8 months now.
Like xxbeccyxx said though if it does not feel right then maybe you can wait for another one, but I think you may be allright bringing this one home, it just takes time to set up the bonding process. But regardless of what decision you make, give it time and patience and you will have a friend for life.
Keep us informed as to what road you take and how things are going.
Strawberries are an ok food for greys but mine won't eat them. I have offered them numerous times but I don't buy them that often so she has yet to eat one.
