  1. Hawaiisheila, covering the cage should keep him quiet until you uncover it, that is the way I do mine. But they do have vocal times and there is not much you can do to keep them from making their calls. Oh and by the way kudos to you for adopting an older grey as most people would rather get a baby one. Celery, I'm sure with a lot of time and patience you can make a fine companion with a juvenile grey, although you are getting more problems with one that is plucking its feathers. Try to find out what was going on in the household when it started to pluck to find what is causing it and you can work on that when you bring her home. Good luck to you.
  2. I think I have you both beat on the old age, heh heh heh and believe you me I know lots too.B)
  3. My Josey does poop in her cage but I have noticed lately that she goes to certain sections to do her poops when she is in the cage. She does not poop on me as I notice when she is about to go and take her to the poop trash can and hold her over it and tell her to take a dump and she does. If you watch the body language you can read when they need to go so they don't do it on you. Now my sun conure is something else she goes on me all the time so I only wear shirts that don't matter. Of course it all comes out in the wash so it isn't a problem.
  4. Its a split level design and I got it from New Century Bird Supply. They came to our annual bird fair last year and I got it for $300. It was all put together and he took it apart to get it in my vehicle, a Jeep and I put it back together after I got it home. It has that playtop on one side and Josey comes out and plays on it and goes back inside if she wants a snack or a drink of water. I think they are coming to this years fair which is this month and I need some extra bowls.
  5. I'm happy with my powder coated cage, those wood cages are purty to look at but underneath it all it is not as it looks.:dry:
  6. It is time for Sonia to get used to the hands, try making her step up for you by putting your hand in front of her belly and pushing slightly while saying step up. When you do this don't hesitate and pull back if she acts like she will bite, just do it, show no fear. When she does step up praise her lavishly as they love for you to fawn over them. Tell her what a good girl she is and do it a few times a day, be consistent and let her know your hand is not to be feared. If she does happen to bite don't yell out or pull back, be brave and take it for she needs to know that biting you won't make you go away. I know this is harsh sounding and hard to do but it will bring rewards to you and your bird. I'm not an expert and maybe one of the other members has more or better information.
  7. Michael it is, I hope you can adopt the buddy shown in the photo with Gina, they look so cute together that you have to keep them together. Most greys do not form a bond like that with another species of bird.
  8. Now I've heard everything, he helps you out when you go to the bathroom by holding the toilet paper, how hilarious that must be.{Feel-good-0002006E}
  9. I hope you are successful in videoing him eating that toothpick and uploading it to the forum, that is something I want to see.:ohmy:
  10. Glad to hear Roxy is going to be ok, I dread when that day comes for me with my Josey, I will probably freak out.:ohmy:
  11. Very well put, Number6. I couldn't agree more. How about some karma for that.
  12. Like Talon mine does not like baths either, but sometimes she tries to take one in her water bowl. I take her to the sink and get her really wet and she is ok with that.
  13. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when skies are grey You'll never know dear how much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away. And that is for no one on the forum but me and my Josey.
  14. Sounds like you got it covered.
  15. I've not had any experience with feeding babies, but as soon as it shows any interest in other food besides the formula I would offer it. The baby food is fine to do now, in fact I still give my one year old grey baby food every morning with her oatmeal, she seems to enjoy a hot meal.
  16. When you are there with the breeder and he/she gets some ready to feed and tests it on the wrist have them do it on yours so you will know how it feels and you can do the same at home.
  17. Baby food is good to feed your grey, I feed mine some every morning in with a little oatmeal. I get the stage one vegetables like carrots, sweet potatoes or butternut squash, but green beans, peas and such would be good too. If you are introducing foods to a new grey you can offer them in most any form, raw, cooked or mashed. Try them different ways to see what they prefer and if they don't start eating them keep offering because one day the may eat some and like it. A good pellet mix is needed, I recommend Harrison's High Potency formula and preferably the fine grind, they don't waste as much of it. You can offer them some off your plate at the evening meal just not anything salty or greasy. Mine loves any kind of pasta or rice and potatoes. Never give them raw potatoes, I am not sure why but have been told not to. This should get you started and some others may have more suggestions.
  18. Thanks Penny, it gets very humid here in the summer so I use the A/C all summer, but the winters get cold and my husband likes to use the wood burning fireplace in the family room where she stays and the air can get dry. I will definitely check into it before wintertime. B)
  19. They can go thru a molt at any time and there is no set age on the first, but you will know by the amount of feathers falling out and if you scratch their neck you can feel the pin feathers.
  20. judygram

    problems.

    Very sound advice.
  21. My grey loves cheese also, just get the package it comes in out of the fridge and she goes nuts for it.:laugh:
  22. You are truly blessed.{Feel-good-00020114}
  23. Well congratulations on the singing with your grey, I can imagine the delight you must have felt.
  24. My Josey does not like a blue plastic tub that I keep some toys in for the grandkids. My grandson loves to empty the toys out and play in the tub but whenever he goes any where near her cage she growls. I have never had her any where near that tub before. So the basket could just be something she did not like.:ohmy:
