Well it is possible to give them too much attention if you cannot keep it up for the rest of their lives. They can get used to it and then it is a problem if you cannot maintain it. I would allow him some time to play with just himself and like said in previous posts to this thread, show him how to play with the toys, show him how much fun you are having with them and maybe he will play with them by himself.

Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great job there, Michael, but I don't want a bird with horns, funny though.{Feel-good-0002006E}

You said it Michael, there are 16 lurking right now. By the way, I love the graphics, where do you and Tari get those wonderful images?

Thank you Steve for the update on Mandi, I am glad she is doing better and will get to come home in a few days. I'm sure you are doing the best you can with the pets, and with Buddy and they will be glad when she comes thru the door. Give her our best wishes for a quick recovery and we look forward to hearing from her again soon. Take care and again thanks for the update.

Yeah, I'm glad we have something different on the front page, not that I don't like what is there already but a little different is good and what better than the pic that won the contest, Spookyhurst, here is your moment in the spotlight.{Feel-good-000200B9}

I'm so happy the visit went well, he will have no problem when you actually get to bring him home to stay. Ane he is already taken with the two of you so you have it made. Good pictures of him too. Kim might want to keep them fingernails away from him, mine aren't as long but Josey tries to chew them off every chance she gets.:laugh:

I would suggest you let your neighbor take her into their home, but maybe put her into another room where she won't be close to the other one, kind of like quaranted. Somewhere she will still be part of the action so she will have company and interaction with your neighbors. That way if something should happen, heaven forbid but things do happen sometimes, they will be there for assistance. This is what I would do, but some of the others may have a different opinion, but I am sure you will hear from them if they do.

New here..trying to heal the hole in my heart :(
judygram replied to TaraRose's topic in The GREY Lounge
Well my brain is not that big so picking it won't take long, but yes they are kind of standoffish at new people, some more so than others, so don't worry about that. In time he will come around but it will take a lot of time and patience. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your great friend, we get so attached to our birds and it is literally like loosing a part of the family. I know this new grey won't replace him but it will help heal the hole you have in your heart, you seem to have a lot of love to give. And I commend you for choosing the one you did, most people would not want a bird who is never going to be fully feathered, they are not pretty, but pretty is in the eye of the beholder and you see underneath the naked. Yes he is fine if he is climbing all over the place, most of them are very acrobatic, mine included. I hope I have helped you a little and others will chime in also. Thanks for joining our family here, we care about each other and our birds. Let us know what you decide to do and keep us updated as to how things go. Welcome and congrats to you. -
Just had to share this photo of my newest granddaughter with you, I think she is just adorable. Have you ever seen a more sweet and innocent face than this. Her name is Jordan and she is a little over 10 months old. She just came back from a week at the beach and my son brought me some pictures and I liked this one so much I had to set it as my background on my computer. I just had to share this with you, my other family, you don't think I am a little proud do you? And I hope you notice those blue eyes too, she is going to be a little heartbreaker.{Love-000200BF}

We would all have lots of birds if we were tempted to get one every time we see a beautiful photo in magazines, books and here on this forum.:laugh:
-
Michael, that is so sad and I bet they are selling it because it is no longer beautiful to them without the feathers. How anyone could do that is beyond me. I only hope someone gets it that will give it a good home and the love and attention it obviously needs. Thanks for calling our attention to this.

Heather, no mushrooms, they are on the no-no list. I think we have a thread that has a list of foods that are forbidden. Please don't give her any. Thanks for the salad bar idea, I hadn't thought of that, and I know what you mean, you can't just buy a little of this and that at the grocery store. I am going to try that sometime, but I live nearly 20 miles from the nearest restaurant with a salad bar, I live out in the country.

You certainly show a lot of wisdom for someone who is just 21, I am so very proud of you for taking in this bird that has had several homes now but this will be the last one, right? You can work on the stepping up and maybe the nipping will at least diminish some but in the meantime wear your battle scars with honor. Keep up the good work Josh, you would make any mother proud. Karma to you.

I get Bird Talk magazine too, and I save all the issues, lovely photos and stories inside and a must read for bird lovers.

I'm so sorry to hear that Steve, and I hope she recovers quickly and safely. Thanks for keeping us informed, we care about our members here.:ohmy:

Hi Kathy, and welcome to our family of greys. I am glad to hear you are researching before buying, that shows me that you are going to be a good parent for one of these amazing creatures. Wow, that was some question to ask your hubby, a bird or a boyfriend, but then that is one way to get what you want, and we know what we want don't we Kathy? I would suggest reading "For the Love of Greys" by Bobbi Brinker, it is an excellent source of information on all areas of grey ownership and I loved reading it and others here will say the same. Also, read thru a lot of the threads here on this forum, you will find a lot of the info you will need is already posted in various places. I don't have a stainless steel cage, it is a powder coated cage which is much cheaper. I know the stainless steel may be the best but I don't agree that it has to be stainless, I think the pet store was just trying to push it for the big sale. I know a lot of the other members don't have a stainless steel cage, it is just a matter of choice. If you are concerned that your grey won't get sufficient light then by all means get one of those full spectrum lights, some of our members here use them. I hope the information I gave you helps and keep us updated as to how things are going in your quest for a grey. And again thanks for joining our family, we really care about our members here and hope you will feel the same way about us.

Yes Dan I guess you are happy now, you have another member of the bite club, ha ha ha. Nice pics of your new bird, Josh and congrats to you on giving it a home, I know you will get along fine and will be good practice for you for when that grey comes into your life. Thanks for sharing these with us and looking forward to hearing more about the conure.
-
Thats about all you can do is what Tari said, mine so far hasn't done that, the poop stays inside the cage, but Josey likes to sit on the door when it is open and poop so I have to keep paper on the floor under it.
-
My cage has a safety piece on the front in addition to the door latch, you must move it out of the way in order to get the door open and Josey has not figured that out yet. But she does not seem interested in fooling with it anyway, maybe she is happy in her cage and satisfied with the time I give her out of it. Unless she learns how to open it I won't put any additional locks on it.
-
Very nicely done, CD, as always, we can count on you for an excellent job. I wish we would have had more of the members photos but that is their loss. You have so much talent and compassion for us here that it continues to astonish me and as I get to know you better that is who you are and I for one never want to be without you in my life. Thank you for loving us here.{Love-0002011E}
-
She's so cute when she is all wet and from the looks of her nails she needs a trim like Josey does, hers is digging into me a little more than necessary.
-
Thanks for posting that link, Spookyhurst, I enjoyed looking at that video of Alex, he is simply amazing to watch and shows how smart greys can really be.
-
Sounds like another Kodak moment, please video that for us, I would probably roll around in the floor laughing at that one.:laugh: :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:
-
Thats so true Dan, get the video camera out and the action stops, but Dinkanber we will be anxiously awaiting the video you so graciously offer to show us. Take your time, don't hurry, but get it fast will ya.
