  1. She seems to enjoy it, and the Harrison's High Potency pellets are the best to feed a grey, by the way.
  2. Josey eats a little oatmeal cooked in the microwave, then I add a little baby food, like carrots, sweet potatoes or squash, to it with a little of red palm oil for breakfast. I fill her bowl in the cage with a few seeds, some dried fruits and nuts, dry pasta and maybe some cereal like small shredded wheat biscuits. I put different kinds of veggies in another bowl or hang a kabob with veggies on it in the cage for her to snack on during the day. She has another bowl with pellets in it and another bowl with fresh water. She eats whatever I am having off my plate at the evening meal, except for the forbidden foods. You will find a list of those in one of the threads. That is pretty much it, if I snack on popcorn or something I be sure to give her some, she loves it. Others might give you some other ideas and suggestions.
  3. Congratulations, Mark, I know you will do an excellent job with the African Grey room and I already know you have a wealth of knowledge on the grey in general. Welcome to the team, I know I will enjoy working with you, hey you are a man right, the more men the better, I say.:blush: I'm not going to get all mushy over it though, oh what the heck, I already love too many men on this site as it is but one more can't hurt, right? You have my 100% devotion to you and this site. Again, I welcome you to our team and I look forward to great things from you, Mark, aka, Dblhelix, from now on its Mark.{Love-000200C2}
  4. Hello, Victoria, and welcome to our family, and we are a second family here, we care about each other and our greys and you are a welcome addition. Congrats on your new to you grey, and kudos to you for adopting a rehome grey, they can be challenging but can be rewarding to gain their love and devotion. He has chosen your hubby as his favorite and you may have to live with that, but it does not mean he won't be more accepting of you in the future. I am glad it is going well for him and you and your family. Please do read any and all threads here if you have the time, there is a lot of useful information. I look forward to hearing more about Apollo, and if you could post a picture of him, we would love that, one thing you will see here is a lot of photos, we love to brag.
  5. Kitty, you're hooked, I can tell and to have to wait for 2 years, well, I don't know how you are going to be able to stand it until you can bring one home. To answer your questions, when you bring one home, just put them into their cage and take your cues from them, leave the door to the cage open and let them come out when they feel ready, don't force anything. After they have been home for a day or two, take them all over the house and show them every room so they are familiar with the whole house. Most will adapt very quickly. A lot of plucking problems starts with a change in the amounts of attention provided. Don't lavish any more time and attention on your grey that you intend to keep up for the rest of their life, they get used to it and will develop behavior problems if you don't maintain that level of attention. Don't start off worrying about whether they will start to pluck, greys are good at picking up our emotions, if they do start plucking, then you can start to figure out why, and sometimes it is because of physical problems. Don't worry about the plucking problem, more than likely it will never develop, but if it does then that will be the time to try to figure out why and how to stop it. I don't know how you are going to be able to wait for two years before you can even get one, you sound hooked already and the wait can be almost unbearable, just read some of the posts in the various threads. I wish you good luck and if you have any more questions, just fire away.
  6. I'm sorry about your job, but it looks like you have another one so good for you. I know you want to spend all your time with her, but don't get in the habit of giving her all your time if you can't keep it up. They get used to it and then you can have behavior problems when they don't get the same attention. Only spend what time you think you can keep up for the rest of her life.
  7. Josey does not like to be on her back either, but someday hopefully I will get her to do it. Now my sun conure, Sunny, will lay on her back in my hand but not Josey. :(
  8. She's a beaut, Pryde, a very beautiful grey and I am glad it is going well for you and her. And that is good that you can take her with you to work, I do the same thing occasionally. Thanks for sharing this picture with us, I can see why you love her so much.
  9. Welcome, Keywe, to our family, glad you joined and we look forward to hearing more about your grey. What is her name? You don't need a separate cage for sleeping, my Josey sleeps in the same cage at night, I cover her with a sheet and she is fine with that. Some of the members do use a separate cage for sleeping but it is not required.
  10. Thats a lot of birds, Sasha, how do you handle all those birds, must keep you busy cleaning out cages, refilling food dishes, changing water bowls and giving each some time with you. I couldn't imagine.:blink:
  11. I hope you can get a pic of Makena so we can see the colorations in the feathers, I am anxious to see that.
  12. I will never be fine anymore. :ohmy: :huh: :dry:
  13. I would certainly check into it, it is a great idea for the children to see and interact with the grey. I know it is not the same thing but I take my grey to work with me sometimes.
  14. Good for you, Dan, didn't go out and buy those t-shirts did ya, now you gonna train him so he won't poop on you, but you are still going to need the shirts, because he will tear them up with his beak and pierce them with his talons.:laugh: :woohoo: :laugh: B)
  15. Zsa Zsa sounds like a good name, kind of sexy but it fits from the look of the video. What a wonderful bird. She is a little sweetheart.
  16. The only ones I know are F O R D, which is fix or repair daily, and found on roadside dead. {Feel-good-0002006E}

    new cage?

    I knew it, I knew it, this guy that works in my office is in his 30s and he uses that word, sweet, all the time, so I knew it was a certain age group that used that. It's funny how you can identify age groups by what expressions they use.
  18. I'm gonna try that too, but I may not limit it to a pea, you could use other foods too.

    new cage?

    You must be in your 30s, Dblhelix, want to know why, because you used that expression, sweet, and I know someone in their 30s that says that same thing, sweet, a lot for something real good.
  20. I'd like to be a fly on the wall to see that, but not nervous, you have nothing to be nervous about, your baby is coming home and you are so excited you can't sleep, but not nervous. Be sure to post pictures of the homecoming, I am almost as excited as you.{Emotions-000200C6}
  21. Wow, that is a lot of babies, and how sad that the parents chewed the feet nearly off one of them, that will be a special baby.
  22. Lisa, please do post in the thread, "about me", we would love to hear your unique story. You may be right about the shoulder sitting in your situation with young kids, she could get startled and bite one of them bad enough to leave a scar and I know you don't want that.
  23. Wow, Lisa, you are lucky to have her back, and that just goes to prove the point that they can still fly with clipped wings. I am so happy for you and I hope you do get to keep her, she is a wonderful bird. Thanks for sharing this with us and we look forward to hearing more about Alook and her adventures in Alaska.
  24. Once you clip the wings you have to wait for the next molt for them to grow out, so it takes time, they have to replace those feathers not regrow the ones you clip. But then you already knew that didn't you, silly me.:blink: :blush: :whistle:
  25. Wonder why he is selling him, did he say?
