I don't have a plucker, but I can sympathize with you in your problem. The first thing you need to do is take your grey to the vet, preferabley an avian vet, to get a complete workup to rule out a physical problem. Then after he is declared healthy, we can work on solving the problem. I would like to know a little more about this grey of yours, so why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and give us a little more information so we will be better able to help you.

Well Goldie it is, that is a nice name for a B&G macaw and what a sweetie she is. Karma to you Connie.

I can relate to that, Josey loves venison and she steals it off my plate also. Steak, chicken and even pork are favorites of hers including the potato and any kind of pasta, rice or noodles. But the cheese is what really gets her going, just let me take a bag of shred cheddar cheese out of the fridge and she goes nuts for it.

Hubba, hubba, hubba. Nice work, Joe and nice commentary to go along with it. {Feel-good-000200BB}

These are darling, Valerie, I love the pear people, and how clever of you to come up with this and Hemingway thinks he is going to chomp down on these and enjoy them.
-
Thanks Tari, thats exactly what you should do first is rule out any physical problems, then we can work on other things likely to cause it.

Yes it is Andrew, I knew it varies by individual, but I didn't know it was controlled by genetics, how very interesting, learn something new every day.

Thats wonderful Ronda, about how you met your husband, and glad you don't fight about money, but do you fight about anything else? Most couples fight about something and most of the time it concerns money issues. Almost 13 years you two are together, and I am celebrating 40 years this week and sometimes it seems like my whole life has been as married, I think I need a change.

I like those kind of vents, Dan, and you are right on, no one wants to take the blame for their own actions anymore, it's too easy to put it on someone else. It's a sad world we live in nowadays that people don't want to take responsibility for their own actions and that is BS big time!!!!!!

Dave's opinions are much like mine, I don't think it would be of much use and why put them thru the procedure of inserting it into their body, chances are slim to none that it will ever be found if ever it should happen to escape. Don't waste your money.

Hello and welcome to the family, Rikki, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Chaco. She is a lovely grey, thanks for posting a picture right off the bat, we love to look at pictures of other's greys. I think you might have a spoiled bird but who doesn't, how can you not spoil them rotten, they are so precious and we all love our little darlings to pieces. If you have any specific questions you would like to ask feel free to fire away, we will do our best to answer them and do anything we can to make you feel welcome here and help you with your grey. We would love to hear some stories if you would like to tell them, we never tire of listening to other's adventures or misadventures as the case might be.

You are doing the right thing taking him to see the vet, he should get a complete workup, I know it will cost some money but it tells so much about their health. Just talk to him sweetly while he is in the carrier and maybe he will get used to it, I have no problem with Josey, she does not mind the carrier, she knows she is going somewhere. And that is another thing, don't just use it for vet visits or he will associate it with going there, take him for other outings that will be fun for him so he won't hate it so much. Taking a recorder will help to remember what the vet says but I can't think of any thing specific to ask, I'm sure if he is any kind of a good vet he will volunteer lots of information on his own. Good luck with the vet visit and let us know how it goes.

Well he certainly looks healthy but sunflower seeds only is not a proper diet for greys. She may have to eat the veggies and other good foods in front of him to encourage him to give other foods a try, if he sees her enjoying them it may give him incentive to give it a try. Try soaking some pellets in apple juice to see if he will eat some that way. She really did rescue this bird, no toys in the cage, just what was the bird supposed to do with its time, a lot of them would have started plucking. He needs some toys to occupy his time and to give him something to knock around and enjoy himself. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about yourself.

At 4 months I don't think she will be confused and start saying good girl instead and eventually she will say good boy less and less. Congrats on your new girl. I see this is your first post, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about yourself and this new grey.

Well congratulations, Siobhan, on the new addition to the flock, I am so happy for you and your hubby. But you may be right, having two greys might mean that they may bond to each other and not to one of you. Here's hoping that Oisin will take up with your husband and not Liath, but they will do what they want so you may just have to accept what you get. But I am thrilled for you that you got your second grey and hope things turn out the way you want them to be.

Oh yes Heather, there are still people like that out there and they should be ashamed of themselves. They may not have had any insurance so didn't want the hassle but it shows what lowlife people are still willing to do. Thats a shame that this photo was the only one taken, I guess it took all the joy out of being out that day to get pictures of the fall colors.

I am so sorry for your loss, Suzanne, and I hope you can find the closure you need to heal your heavy heart. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
-
Are you kidding, yes I think we all are raising "little feathered humans" and we are all spoiling them rotten, I don't know any other way to handle it but like that. I think I can relate to the sounds your Newton is making, they probably all do it but we as individuals describe it with different words. So glad you are enjoying your little feathered human and glad you could share one of his lovely moments with us.
-
Yeah I'm never dieting again, it is a lifestyle modification change, and it sounds so much better.
-
Finally, Mandi, we are having a terrible time with photos lately, a few have been posted with no problem and others have had no luck. That is a lovely looking eclectus and it is a male at that, thanks for sharing him with us.

I don't live in California, but in Virginia, but I have seen in the news about these fires and that is good advice, Greg, thanks for alerting those residents of this danger so they may take the necessary precautions. Karma for you Greg.

I think you are on the right track, and he will adjust to his new environment with a little time and patience. The nip was just a test to see if you would react to it and since you didn't he will probably give up on that. I would gradually work on delaying his bedtime to a later time now that he is in a home setting, it will be better if he can adjust to maybe 8 or 9 pm or later, it will give you more time with him if you work during the day. I wouldn't move his cage around, I would put it where it gives him the max exposure to where you are and when you are out of his sight and he calls for you just answer him for his reassurance.
-
Oh I'm sure Buddy will teach him lots of stuff, and sounds like he already knows some. Tell Buddy I said to let you take a few pictures before he pokes the lens out of your camera, they can be so naughtly sometimes. :P :P :P
-
Why don't you take it to the vet's office and they can give it to one of their patients who need it, thats what I would do. I am so sorry about the loss of both of your cockatiels, its never easy to get over the loss of a beloved pet and you had double the loss.
-
Nope, there isn't, the server is in Israel and that is what time is used, so you just have to adjust for whatever time zone you are in.
