1. What a bummer Toni, no wonder you have bad memories of Valentines Day but I hope you have an uneventful day so to speak. B)
2. Ronda that is very good advice, patience is a must when working with greys and eventually Perry will come around, it just takes time. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and Perry.
3. Ronda it made me laugh,:laugh: especially the hillbilly part, thats the part from WV, LOL.:woohoo:
4. I know I am anxious to see Dexter, the little devil as you call him, I bet he is cute as a button:P
5. Undying love. If you could have anything in the world what would it be?
6. Yes whatever works best, Josey sleeps in the same cage but then she always has but if a sleep cage makes her happy then use it for that, and a lot of the members do use a sleep cage.
7. Try typing in play area or playgyms in the search feature and see what comes up, we do have some great ideas here but they are scattered throughout the threads. I am sure you will hear from some of the members who do such play areas of their own with their ideas.
8. Didn't mean to step on your turf Tracy but I saw the need and filled it but you are the best....... {Love-000200BF}
9. Here is a link to the vegetables and fruits you can feed: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/59809-complete-veggiefruit-list.html#59843
10. He is behaving like a spoiled little brat so do as LMG suggests and ignore that behavior in favor of good behavior. Josey is out of her cage when I am home but she still spends some of that time inside her cage but it is her choice, the door is open.
11. Happy Valentines Day to all in greyforums.com and especially to my close friends here, hope your loved one takes very good care of you today. {Love-00020111}
12. If you have this baby by itself do you have some type of little stuffed animal in with it to keep it company? I ask because when I was visiting my little one before she was weaned, the breeder had a small stuffed animal in with it for it to snuggle up with.
13. I would have to say my two kids, it was truly an achievement that they matured into the wonderful people they are in spite of my immaturity of having them at a young age and my doubts at bringing them up properly, I thought I had failed miserably. What would be your idea of a perfect day?
14. I knew you could do it Laurie and glad it gets easier every day and I can see where over confidence could be your downfall, you are smart enough to see that and avoid it, you go girl!!!
15. Well have a safe and happy trip Laurie and think about us left here slaving away while you are cruising around and having fun, we want to see some pictures when you get back. Have fun but stay focused, remember your committments (weight and smoking):ohmy: :whistle: B)
16. Tilly is a beautiful grey, thanks for sharing a few pictures of her with us and I am sure you will get the biting under control, just keep working on it.
17. This is a list of fruits: FRUITS Fresh fruits, thoroughly washed and rinsed in order to remove dirt and any chemical pesticide residues should make up a large portion of a bird basic diet. The following are recommended but do not use the pits - many are poisonous: apples, oranges, cherries, pears, nectarines, plums, peaches, whole cranberries, papaya, mango, persimmons, apricots, leechees (seeds OK), pomegranites (the seeds are the best part), bananas, grapes - seeded or seedless, berries - black, blue, raspberries, mulberries, currants are all great. Commercially grown strawberries have the highest level of stored pesticide residues of any fruit or vegetables, so should be avoided. Homegrown or organic strawberries are fine. This is just a basic list, many other fruits can be fed.
18. Here is a list of vegetables: VEGETABLES Vegetables add bulk and roughage to your pet's diet. They need plenty of roughage to chew on. All vegetables should be washed with mild soap and scrubbed with a vegetable brush. The following vegetables are safe and nutritious. It is just a basic list and a good, safe place to start. Broccoli - whole vegetable Lettuce - romaine, chickory, boston, aruula, etc. Any but iceberg, which has little or no nutritional value. Sweet potato - Raw or slightly microwaved (45-60 seconds per sweet potato). It tastes sweeter that way, but is still crunchy and appetizing. Cauliflower - whole vegetable chopped up White potatoes - whole spud, chopped up. Remove all eyes, as they are poisonous. Squash - zucchini, acorn, spaghetti, butternut, yellow, pumpkin, etc. Any portion of the squash is good, especially the seeds. They are high in silenium and other healthy minerals. Melon - watermelon (pits are okay), canteloupe (rind is toxic), canary melon, sabra melon, honeydew - the flesh is good, remove seeds and rind. Tomato - the tomato only, leaves and stem are toxic Carrots - whole plant is great! Beets- The whole plant served raw is supernutritious. Corn - On the cob, cut into 1 inch sections, no more than 2 sections per bird daily. Corn can cause problems with proper calcium metabolism, so although it is usually relished by all birds, it must be limited. Turnips- The turnip itself and the greens. The greens are rich in vitamin A Kale- Rich in Vitamin A, E, K Watercress- Rich in vitamin A, C, E Collard Greens - Rich in vitamin A, C, Potassium, Calcium Dandelion - Rich in vitamin A. If you collect your own, make sure they are untreated chemically. Chicory -Vitamin A Mustard Greens Cabbage - Cut horizontally to avoid long stringy pieces. Kohrabi Brussell Sprouts - Sprouts on the stalk can be hung in the cage as a perch or food toy. Swiss Chard Peas Beans- Beans will be covered in the following section in detail. Celery- peeled and cut up in samll horizontal pieces, so there are no long stringy hard to digest pieces to obstruct digestion.

Post edited by: judygram, at: 2008/02/14 03:32
19. Hello Imme and welcome to the family, glad you want to get an african grey. You are doing the right thing in researching and reading all you can before you make the plunge, this is a big decision and one that is not to be taken lightly. This is a bird with a long lifespan and you should only committ to it if you realize this is for a lifetime, yours and the greys. Do read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and ask as many questions as you may have, we will do our best to get you some answers and help you in any way we can. Keep us informed as to what you decide to do but if you decide to become a grey owner you will not be disappointed, they are awesome creatures.
20. I miss him a lot, he used to be on more than he is now, and you are right, he gives such informative posts, he sure knows his stuff, maybe we will just have to pm him and entice him to be on more.B)
21. That is so wonderful to hear Hannah, she can talk and now that she does you better watch out what you say, she will be repeating it over and over again.
22. This has been a long time coming but you are making progress Ronda and you did the right thing in putting her back when she got antsy. She has been slow to warm up to you but I think it will only get better from now on. That is so sweet when they groom your hair. See your patience has started to pay off and I am sure we will be hearing more and more of these little accomplishments now that she is beginning to trust you, you go girl!!!
23. Very nice pictures Ronda, I especially loved the last one, she is so sweet, thanks for sharing them with us.
24. Hello Butch and welcome to the family, glad to hear you are acquiring your first grey and is this your first parrot? Wing clipping is a touchy subject here with some members strongly in favor of or against it, but the final decision is yours to make and whatever works for you is the best choice. We do have some threads that deal with that very subject so read thru them before you make your decision. Clipping the wings when done properly does not hurt the bird. I assume that Dexter is the name of this grey, how old is he and what are the circumstances that bring him to you, just curious to know. Please read the many threads on various topics for lots of useful and helpful information on all aspects of greys. Ask questions if you have any and we will do our best to get some answers and help you in any way we can. When you do get Dexter and you take any pictures of him, if you would share them with us we would love to see him.
25. Thanks for the updates, Denise, I think you have quite the character in Sammy, and it will take a while for him to settle in so he will be jumpy and startle easy but with time and patience he will overcome that. Thats great that he has a good vocabulary and he will learn new words and phrases from you too so watch what you say if you don't want it repeated. Josey will sometimes reach in with her talons and grab up food especially pellets and eat them from her foot, of course she drops most of them and it usually is not over the bowl when she does it either but you gotta love them.:laugh:
