It sounds like from you own ideas that you are doing what is needed to help him make the adjustment to his new home. He does need time to settle in and allow him to set the pace that he will accept things from you. You will need lots of patience in dealing with him but the rewards are worth it.
It helps a lot that you know of his background and that will help you with the transition. He needs to know that you will be there for him if he needs you and in time he will come to accept you and trust you, its a piece of cake from there.
We do have a lot of members here that have taken in rehomed and rescued greys and they will be able to give you some invaluable advice.
Gryphon is one lucky grey, he is going from one loving home into another, only he doesn't know it yet but he will soon, thanks for giving this grey a good home.
This is so funny Berna, ROFLMAO, this is so cute that he will go to the bathroom and go potty in the commode, you do have a very smart bird.
And like Dan I would love to see one of him actually doing it, you know an action shot:blink:  thanks for making me laugh this morning:lol: B)
That is a sweet looking baby grey there Brittany and yes greys can become more of a one person bird if they are not socialized properly.
Thanks for sharing a picture of your precious baby, I know you can't wait to be able to bring it home with you.
You are doing nothing wrong, he needs time to bond with you. He was bonded to his previous owner and that is why he allowed him to do those things with him.
Since he is 2 1/2 years old and you have only had him 10 days that is in no way long enough for him to learn to trust you. He has to come to trust you before he cn bond with you and then maybe he will allow you to pet and cuddle him and maybe not.
Greys are very cautious creatures so you have to give them lots of time and patience.
Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and this grey of yours.
Wow, Tiago and Zsa Zsa are beautiful birds, I love those long tails too, you both have gorgeous alexandrines, makes me want one.
I love this thread, I come here all the time and read what the 3 of you have to say to one another about these lovely parrots.
Thanks for sharing your alexandrines with us. B)
I know that Hawaii has no snakes but they have cats and dogs that roam the area and even though she is in a cage they could frighten her real bad and mabe even catch hold of her foot or a wing when she flaps around the cage.
On another note, she could be more easily stolen if left outside especially at night.
I would rethink this before making this decision.
Those are very nice toys you have made, they look just as good or better than the ones we buy from stores, you are very handy at it, I would be interested in buying some too, thanks for sharing the pics of them with us.
Well yes it is Wednesday isn't it and Lynette's baby grey is home, now guess what, we want pictures of this adorable cuddly grey so Lynette get snapping with the camera. B)
Yes they stretch their legs from time to time and the wing on that side also. She is preening herself when you see her picking at her feathers, birds are vain, they like to have all their feathers in place and you are gonna see a feather now and then. All these things are normal grey behavior, nothing to worry about.
Check the feather end and see if it has been chewed or the tip is intact, that will tell you if it was pulled out or chewed off.

Hello Erin and welcome to the family, so glad you stumbled upon us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Elmo.
Even though this is your first parrot you have been around birds before and your hubby has some experience and we won't let you go wrong on anything as you came to the right place for advice.
Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
If you have some pictures of Elmo you would share with us we would love to see him/her.
We understand what you are saying about the grey babies, you have to be a bird lover to appreciate them but they are adorable in their own right.
I say take the baby with you then if hubby has a problem with him, most greys like going out and going places, good chance to socialize him some more.
Aww, how cute is he, Jasper it is, rhymes with Casper, Casper's Jasper, he is sitting there looking like, "ok I am not doing anymore action shots, just resting now". Thanks for sharing another pic of Jasper with us.
She is a big girl isn't she Tiffani and adorable, I know she is bringing you a lot of joy and it shows in the pictures, thanks for sharing them with us.
I love the last one;) B)
