1. I totally agree that we are so lucky and truly blessed to have Dave as a member, a man with a wealth of knowledge that surpasses any other member on this forum, I have total faith in him and can count on him for his advice and wisdom, thank you from the bottom of my heart:kiss:
2. I just got back from picking them up and they are glad to see me, Josey came right out to greet me, no hard feelings or anything, it was kissy, kissy for me. Sunny screamed in delight, gave me some kissys too and won't leave my shoulder now, they were well taken care of but I know they are glad to be home. Believe me I gave them both cuddles and kisses and all is happy in the household this evening.
3. Eddie looks right at home up there on Robyn's shoulder, he is a cutie, thanks for sharing a couple pics of him with us.
4. In any case Andrew, I hope it works out for you and please do share some photos of your new quaker with us.
5. I would think a dog crate or something similar would be fine as long as it meets the right requirements. My Josey has had to stay the week in a travel cage but she was allowed some out of cage time so for a short term it is ok but for a longer period of time I would have to have something bigger. But as long as he will be out of the cage most of the time then it does not matter that his cage is not so big.
6. Thanks for letting us know and please keep us updated on his condition for we care about you and Obi, I will continue to keep you and Obi in my thoughts and prayers.
7. Crissy, since you have only had her for a few days you might be pushing her too much too soon, she needs time to settle in and get comfortable in her new home so ease up a bit and see if things improve with some time. It takes weeks, months and sometimes a year or more to gain a grey's trust so be patient and continue to talk to her softly and offer her treats. I would discontinue the trying to lean in for kisses until you are more familiar with her body language so you can read into what she is trying to tell you. I have included a link to a fine article written by Dave that will help you to understand the things your grey may be trying to tell you, I hope it is of some help to you. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/training/109373-body-language-most-frequently-seen.html#109436

Post edited by: judygram, at: 2008/12/12 20:34
8. Excellent Dan, more karma coming your way!!B) B) B)
9. His eyes will start lightening up at any time now and it takes a while for them to finally get the light color with the black pupil. Greys like rubbing their beaks on things, my Josey rubs hers on my clothing especially after eating, they use us as a napkin:blink:  but they do rub them on hard surfaces as it helps keep the beak in fine form and it helps rub off layers of flaking that occurs from time to time. Do not be sorry for asking so many questions, how else would you learn anything if you don't ask, no matter how silly they may seem to you believe me we have heard them all and no you do not need to start another thread unless you have some particular problem you want to discuss. Thats what we are here for to help you with any concerns you may have and to make friends with others who share our passion for only other grey owners know how we really feel about our birds. Judy
10. But the kids will love them, trust me:woohoo:   :silly:
11. Hi Elena, your baby needs to be under the care of an avian vet ASAP, are you sure there is not another one you could consult? I would have to say it does not look good for your Obi but only an avian vet would know, please seek help immediately I implore you. I am sorry to hear your Obi is ill and hope you get help but I will keep you and him in my thoughts and prayers for a miracle for him.
12. redkim wrote: I know that feeling and I am about to be there later this evening when I go get my fids after being away on vacation. Well I have heard of a boy named Sue so now we have a girl named Fred, congrats on being able to go ahead and get her home with you. Sounds like you are in seventh heaven with her around and she is being such a good girl, you must be doing all the right things. But just for you to be aware of, this is the honeymoon phase and do not be surprised if she is not so well behaved in the coming weeks and months as she settles in and the bonding process commences. But then things are going great and maybe it will continue to be that way, who knows, only your grey knows for sure.
13. You won't regret it Penny and if you like roller coaster type rides you are missing out, the Rockin Roller coaster is not to be missed and I survived the Tower of Terror 2 times:woohoo:
14. That was really good Dan, loved it and it is so true, thanks for adding that to OUR thread, karma coming your way.:woohoo:
15. They went in their travel cages to the same woman who has kept them before, in fact it is the one I got both of them from so they know her and she knows them, don't know how much out of cage time they got but they will have plenty when I get them back home. The vacation was wonderful with all my family, we spent some time all together and some we split up and went to separate parks but we had a blast riding the roller coasters and other rides and seeing lots of light, laser and water shows, light parades, fireworks and the whole place was decorated up for Christmas, truly a magical place to be. Am I rested, NO, there was too much to see, do and I walked so much my feet and legs are tired and sore and the plane ride home was taxing to the body so I am resting up today along with this weekend, maybe I will feel like going back to work on Monday, NOT!!! Everyone with kids needs to take their children and grandchildren to that place at least once in their lifetimes, more if you can afford it, I have been twice now so I am truly blessed.
16. I have missed my Josey and Sunny so much I can hardly stand it. I just got back from a vacation in Florida at Disney World and I haven't seen my fids since December 4. The lady that was taking care of them works during the day and I cannot go get them until this evening and I miss them so much. I hope they have not forgotten me:ohmy: but I know they haven't and maybe they won't even be pissed at me for leaving them:whistle: at least thats what I hope. Sunny will probably not want to leave my shoulder but Josey will be more laid back but I will let you know what their reaction is upon picking them up tonight. I really enjoyed myself but I miss them so much when I leave them for any length of time.
17. Yes thanks Jim for the information on the Featherbrite lights, I am intrigued by what you have found out and I will look into getting one for Josey.
18. Hello Joe and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Maximus. He does look like a very young grey, the dark eyes are a dead giveaway. The others have given you some excellent advice and have included some links to some threads that will help you with him. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and you are allowed to ask all the questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Maximus is a greyt looking Cag from the pictures you shared and I am sure you are in for a lifetime of happiness if you follow the suggestions of the previous posters to this thread, they won't steer you wrong. I would have welcomed you sooner but I was on vacation but now am back to participating on a daily basis.
19. Hello Matt and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Pablo. Thats great that you could find it in your heart to take in this grey, he must have had all kinds of attention being in a pet shop for those years but not receiving the love and attention he really needed and though he has chosen you as his favorite he can still be on friendly terms with your son. I am sorry to hear he is a carrier for Chlamydia and hopefully that will be corrected soon and some others gave you some excellent advice for the precautions needed to prevent you and your family from contracting this disease from him. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. I look forward to seeing some photos and videos if you would share them with us.
20. Once again Dave never ceases to amaze me with his greyt knowledge, thanks so much for writing this for us and especially all new members of the grey family, you are loved here by many:kiss:
21. That is a cute name for a grey, Ana Grey, and its official, its a female, she is a beautiful grey, thanks for sharing her with us Janet.
22. Man it is in the 80's here in sunny Orlando and having a good time riding the Rock in roller roller coaster and the Tower of Terror, can't get enough of those two, the music in the Rock in roller is by Aerosmith, wow they are jamming while you are rockin and it takes off like a rocket:woohoo: Today is our last day and we fly home tomorrow but I have had a great time even though a couple of days I suffered thru with my cold. I miss my Josey and Sunny though and will be glad to see them and rest, man you walk your feet off here, thats for sure.:side:
23. Well I hope you have a good time in Florida, I am from Virginia but I am in Florida now too, nice and warm here too but soon I will be back home where it is cold again, oh well but I have enjoyed myself immensely and hope you do too.
24. I do use humidifiers sometimes to keep the air more comfortable especially when it is colder and the heat is on more. The use of aloe vera juice spritzed on them also helps with the skin moisture and makes them feel more comfortable especially when molting. I wouldn't consider myself an expert on greys, I do have one that is over 2 1/2 years old but I have broadened my knowledge by joining this forum and taking advice from other members who have had their greys for many more years than I have. We do have some members whose knowledge is vast on the grey and they willingly share what they know with the rest of us, we are so lucky to have them.
25. Savage will get over it as most do, Josey does not like baths either but she gets a shower twice a week or more, she tolerates it but she really doesn't get pissed off about it. I think if you do not feel comfortable with him on your shoulder then you shouldn't allow it but it is your choice and that should be based on your own personal preference, but remember that he could deliver a scarring bite very easily.
