  1. In their native Africa the palm nuts are a plentiful part of their diet and it contributes to their lovely plumage plus I believe there are some nutrients they get from eating them.
  2. Well it is the morning Pat so have you come to your sences yet, I'm betting not;) :cheer:
  3. Thats good Steve and I would vote to keep the name, he answers to it and he knows it is his name so why change it.
  4. Hello Lalrmi and welcome to the family, so glad you found us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Ozzy. We are very proud of our site, it is chock full of great info on just about every aspect of owning and living with a grey and we have a lot of knowledgeable members who go out of their way to help one another. I can imagine you read a lot of books for there are so many out there and it is no wonder that they would have conflicting advice but we won't steer you wrong here, we live with greys and we have firsthand experience. Please do read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Ozzy you would share with us we would love to see him. BTW, how old is Ozzy and has he been dna'd a male?
  5. No they aren't but they can be if not socialized properly. Greys do tend to bond with one person but they can have a relationship with each member of the household if you allow each person to have interaction with the bird, give treats and handle them. Why don't you tell us some more about you and your grey so we can get to know you.
  6. Carol's little Miracle, thats a wonderful name for your baby grey and it was hatched just for you.
  7. Well Pat only you can answer that question but I know you would love to have that baby grey for I have heard you mention it before. I know people who have more birds than you do and handle it but this is your chance to raise a baby grey of your own. My vote is I think you can do it but you know in your heart whether you can provide enough out of cage time for each of your birds. You think about this and let us know what you decide to do.
  8. I take Josey with me to work occasionally and the others there like to see her but they don't handle her, afraid of her beak and the last few times I took her she started talking some when they were out of the room she was in. I would love to take her other places but she is not harness trained and I live so far from places in town that I could take her, when I do go I combine errands and some places I can't take her and don't want to leave her in the car alone.
  9. Carol your little ball of fluff is so adorable, that is really a precious looking baby grey and thanks so much for sharing him/her with us.
  10. She was going to town on that piece of apple and then the all too familiar head shake and beak wiping to get the pieces off, thanks for sharing that with us.
  11. Hello Alpeters and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your new grey. I am glad to hear you like our site, we love it here and you will too, we have many wonderful members who are very knowledgeable about the african grey parrot. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them and ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you already have some pictures of your grey and would share them with us we would love to see them but if not please share some when you get your grey.
  12. No Jake we don't have that kind of resource here but you can look for certified avian vets in your area or state by doing a google search.
  13. Don't you remember the first rule is that what is yours is his too, all you got to do is touch it and he wants it now, no wonder he is saying "it's not for you" so much:laugh:
  14. I have a playstand exactly like that and I love what you did to it to make it more enjoyable, love that background it really makes it colorful looking, thanks so much for sharing that with us, gives me some ideas of how to improve Josey's.
  15. Thats the reason Josey doesn't see me with my blackberry touch screen phone, that is too expensive an toy for them to get a hold of. Now if you have an old phone you could let him have maybe he will leave yours alone, I know wishfull thinking. :pinch: :silly:
  16. You go girl, get them free samples:laugh: :side:
  17. Dan gave you some excellent advice Jake and I don't think you can overfeed him, give him all he wants. That is unusual for him to climb up and throw himself to the bottom but place his perches lower and do pad the bottom of the cage with towels or blankets to cushion the falls. You have a nice setup there in your picture you shared with us.
  18. I give the palm oil to my grey and conure but not the actual palm nuts from Florida which is not the same palm nuts that are available to them in their natural environment.
  19. You pretty much have to ignore any swear words, don't react to them at all and never repeat any of the words and he will gradually use them less and less until he doesn't use them at all.
  20. Some of the members here use photobucket or youtube to host them there and then share the link.
  21. What a gorgeous picture of Adaya, that is good enough for framing and hanging on the wall, very nice with that background, you take nice pictures and thanks for sharing it with us. Wish my Josey would dance but she shows no interest.
  22. Wow that looks like a fun place for a grey to play, did you fix that yourself? Thanks for sharing that with us.
  23. Seems you have an escape artist, the little bugger, they are too smart sometimes but they are wonderful companions aren't they, glad to hear you and Adaya are getting along so nicely.:cheer:
  24. I'm thrilled for you and it only took a month, good job and you must be some kind of crooner to woo him over.
