  1. I'm not real sure but I would err on the side of caution and say that I wouldn't give Clark softened water because they use sodium to soften it, maybe someone else knows more about it than I do.
  2. Sounds like a plan, happy shopping! B)
  3. Greys can handle those hot peppers, they aren't really affected by the heat from them like we are. I would be careful giving him popcorn and pretzels as they have a lot of salt on them so save them for an occasional treat and not an everyday food. You can also offer grains and legumes, they like most any kind of bean and sprouted seeds and grains are usually a big hit and very nutritious.
  4. The onions are a forbidden food in itself, you should not be giving Clark any onion however it is prepared. The vegetables off the mexican salad bar mjay not be fried but they may have been soaked in some kind of oil or oil mixture and that is not good for them. Why don't you just give him some fresh, canned or frozen vegetable from the grocery store, many of us feed our greys those and the frozen are about as nutritious as fresh because they are usually flash frozen to preserve the vitamin content.
  5. I don't think there are too many cages out there that were put together without a few choice words being spoken but at least it is all together and ready for Chimay when he comes.
  6. I leave a radio on for my birds when I am gone during the day to keep them company.
  7. You are making some progress with him and this will be a long process but he will be so much better for the effort. He wants to be with you for the assurance of knowing you are still around, in time he may come to relax and enjoy some time spent to himself and not be so needy. These are small steps but they are all on the road to a better pet, I think you are doing a wonderful job with him so far, keep up the good work and thanks for keeping us updated.
  8. I want one and I showed the pictures to my hubby to give him the clue that I want him to build me one and it fell on deaf ears, he said he has too many irons in the fire right now to take on any additional projects so I guess I won't get one.
  9. Hello Thejondude and welcome to the family, so glad you found us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Clark. The picture of him in your avatar is simply precious and I guess to you he is a "superman" and I can't wait to see a picture of him in his new flight suit. Thats too bad about your first experience with a grey but you are right, breeder greys are not pet birds and pet greys are not breeder birds either. Sorry you had to have some chunks missing before you found that out but it sounds like you got the real deal this time. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Now if you have any other pictures of Clark you would share with us we would love to see them.
  10. Thats ok Ram but now you know to do a search for a subject before you post a new thread for we may have already answered your question before and that particular one is a popular one.
  11. I haven't yet but have thought about it, I haven't purchased too many of the products that make things just for the birds but whichever one of us tries it first will let the other know what they think, ok;)
  12. That whole spiel smells of scam, don't get hooked on that, it reads almost word for word. Take our advice and look for reputable breeders if you are looking for a grey.
  13. That is amazing, we know some of our avian companions can and do live long lives but to actually see one that old is wonderful, thanks for sharing that link with us.
  14. That is a myth that people think that a clipped bird cannot fly but with being spooked and a little wind they can indeed go a distance and get up into a tree. Its akin to us when we get scared and do things we thought we were incapable of doing, adrenaline kicks in and we surprise ourselves.
  15. Thanks Ram it will be much safer when you have him out like that and then you can enjoy the outing and we won't worry about you losing him. We have heard too many of these very things happening and it breaks our hearts to see members lose their birds because they thought they would never fly away. You picked a good one, the aviator is probably the best one on the market.
  16. Oh Pat, I knew you would chose to take that baby and I am so happy for you, this will be so wonderful to raise your very own baby grey. I look forward to seeing pictures and hearing the tales you will have to tell of the experience, congrats to a greyt momma.
  17. Also don't worry about asking for help right after joining as we wouldn't have many members if we didn't allow questions right off the bat. We have some very knowledgeable members here who will give you some answers or at least give you some insight into why he is acting this way and maybe help you to reverse it.
  18. Something changed with you that made him react this way, maybe something you wore, new perfume, earrings, or something happened that scared him that he associates you with. You will have to search back to that time to try and find out what it was.
  19. She is found finally, glad to hear it.:cheer: Well you better get back as soon as possible and tell us the whole story, this has been one heck of a roller coaster ride.
  20. Hello Sue and welcome to the family, so glad you found us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Ollie. Ollie sounds like he is quite the little character and I can't wait to hear the full story but you came to the right place looking for helpful advice and bird friends. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We do love pictures here as you guessed so don't be shy about sharing some of Ollie as we would love to see him and we have a thread where you may share one of yourself if you like.
  21. We didn't even have maybe 8 inches the whole winter, I'm moving:woohoo:
  22. It is snowing here right now, not sticking much but still cold enough to cling to the grass and roofs, very much in contrast to last weekend that was so pretty and warm. We had temperatures in the 80's and I was wearing shorts but not this weekend. Funny thing is two weekends ago we had really the only snow of any accumulation on that Sunday and was cold as blue blazes, no wonder people are sick and you never know from one weekend to another what it is going to be like. Hope this snow doesn't hurt the vegetables we have planted in the garden, it shouldn't harm onions, radishes, kale, spinach, cabbage and lettuce, looking forward to a fresh spring salad. Come on weather, make up your mind, wonder what next weekend will be like, it will be officially spring on March 20, can't wait, can you:blink:
  23. Thanks for sharing that with us Dave.:woohoo:   :silly:
  24. That is too funny, too bad you didn't take a pic of it before you took the bag off but then you were concerned about his safety as I would have been but I can imagine it in my mind, thanks for sharing that with us.
  25. Your baby is so precious looking and that is great that you are going to see it this weekend, we want some more pictures, thanks for sharing it with us. I can't tell from the picture what that is on the back but you will find out this weekend when you visit then you can let us know.
