Another member who is having success with the harness on their grey, sounds like she had a good time and I bet that reaction to the cat was priceless, would have been a great kodak moment. We are glad you are here Gary and stick with us as we won't steer you wrong.

Then I would do what Dave says for he is the man who knows better than probably anyone else here and it makes sense to keep doing it, just let us know how it goes, maybe some more pics too wouldn't hurt, hint, hint. B)

Baxter looks so cute in his aviator harness even if he is a little nervous about it, you did real good in getting it on him so fast and I imagine he will get better in time as he finds out he gets to go outside for some fresh air and to explore. Thats interesting how you had to go elsewhere for help in getting it on him but glad you got it on him, he is liking it there in Texas.

I would think your chances are very good, I have no idea how many clutches one pair would have a year but if she has 14 breeding pairs then the odds are in your favor. I will keep my fingers crossed that you get lucky, keep saving your money.

Hello Nancy and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Captain Jack Sparrow. Now I wonder where you got that name from, hmm, yes I know, he is a famous pirate isn't he, yes I loved that movie too and that is a cute name for a grey. Spoiled you say, I don't know how you could do that, just joking, I think all our greys are spoiled rotten, they know they have us wrapped around their little talons and we would do anything to satisfy their every want and need. As you are already finding out we have lots of useful information in our many threads so continue to read thru them and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Yes we would love to see some pictures or videos of CJS if you would share some with us.

I would be a little leery of having play dates with other birds as you don't know if you would be exposing your bird to a disease that another bird may be carrying and not know it. Also greys tend to not get along with other birds even another grey so if Pepper is the only bird you have maybe you should consider getting another bird to at least have some company for Pepper. I have a sun conure in a separate cage and even though they don't get along with each other they are company for each other.

Parrot awarded for yelling about choking baby
judygram replied to CarolandFamily's topic in Newsroom
I read about this somewhere before and thought this was so amazing, that parrot saved that baby's life, thanks for sharing that with us Carol, you just never know. -
One side of a cage should always be up against a wall, it gives them a sense of security but I have never had a problem with Josey going to bed, usually she is already in her cage when that time comes unless I have her on another playstand away from the cage but then she goes in easily. I cover her cage completely and I never hear anything out of her from that point until morning when she is uncovered. Others may have to use a night light or partially cover their grey, it just depends on the individual bird and what they are more comfortable with.

Believe me this buying stuff never ends, I am ready to order some stuff for Josey and in a week and a half I go to a bird convention where there will be a bird mart where I can buy all kinds of toys and such, my plastic may get worn out.

I am so excited :) I may have found my grey!
judygram replied to Summerc25's topic in The GREY Lounge
Well good luck Summer and that is great that they live close enough for you to go visit the grey, at least you won't be buying sight unseen. Pat is right, the grey may not take to you when you visit for he is bonded with her but at one year of age he is young enough for a new bond to form fairly quickly with you if you get him. I hope your visit goes well and you get this grey if you want him, let us know how it goes. -
Buy it now Carol, the sooner you can introduce your baby to it the better chances he/she will take to it. You might have to have it laying near him/her to get them used to it being there and the harness comes with a dvd that explains how to introduce it and put it on.

The main thing is to keep offering the veggies and try varying how they are prepared, raw, cooked, mashed and so forth for usually they will start eating them at some point. Another thing that helps is to see you eating them and enjoying them, sometimes that is all it takes to make them want them.
-
Yes they do Rana, my Josey does that and I guess they are exercising their wings. Your grey was properly clipped, just enough that she can still fly short distances but not gain any height and it gives them more confidence than a too short clip where they fall like a rock, they could damage their keel bone that way.
-
Very nice playstand and swing, boy ZZero is one lucky grey to have all this made for him and he seems to be enjoying it too, thanks for sharing it with us.
-
Oh my I am so sorry to hear that Emma has managed to hurt herself but you are so right, we cannot watch over them every moment and things like this can and will happen, I am glad it doesn't seem too bad though. I think I would have reacted much like you did, we never want our fids to ever be hurt and it probably hurts us more when it happens to them. I would keep an eye on it though like you said to make sure it heals up ok, wow what a scare and thanks for sharing it with us.
-
Vicki you need to come up with a name for your baby, but glad to hear he is doing just fine, he may be fearless right now but he will probably be more cautious as he matures.
-
Hello Rod and welcome to the family, so glad you found us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your grey, I assume you have one. Tell us a little about your grey, how old, name, do you know what sex it is, how long have you had him/her? You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them and ask questions if you have any and we will help you in any way we can. Would love to see some pictures of your grey.

Congrats on Saturday being the big day, will be like waiting for Christmas morning.
-
I think that cage would be suitable, it is plenty big enough and 1 inch is the max for spacing for a grey, no larger or they will be able to get their head thru the bars.
-
Oh yeah this is all normal, just like we have our days we are not as socialable and as long as she is eating and otherwise acting normal don't worry about it, maybe she is just having a "Monday" kind of day.
-
Is it kind of like growling, if so and along with the other factors he may not want to be held at that particular time, he is giving you signals by his body language.
-
I would think if it is comfortable for you to be out then it will be ok for your grey, maybe not on windy or rainy days but in the sunshine for sure.
-
According to this thread in the nursery room you can start introducing pellets and other foods at 7 to 8 weeks of age so Shady is close and probably ok with it as long as you keep an eye on him/her. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-nursery/73409-handfeeding-a-baby-grey.html

I am so happy that is over with and ZZero is fine except for flying into the window, guess that vet will watch out for that next time, no more zippers for ZZero, thanks for letting us know.
-
I think you need to pay a visit to an avian vet to see if anything is wrong with her especially if it has been awhile since she has had any tests for something is definitely bothering her.
