  1. This is a very active forum, you usually don't have to wait long for replies, we pride ourselves on that. Beau is a nice name, would fit either sex and if it doesn't matter to you then why bother is right. They usually have to have a little drop of blood or some blood feathers to determine sex.
  2. I knew you wouldn't sleep much last night but glad to hear Cracker will be fine. I hope you never have to go thru anything like this again but maybe your regular vet will have a word with the service for they did not follow orders. Give us another update tomorrow but I think he will be back to his old self soon.
  3. Hello Joolesgreyuk and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and I know you are going to love it here like we do. Are you getting a baby grey? Have you thought of names yet? Do you know the sex of your grey? I'm just being nosy:laugh: You are about to embark on the thrill of a your life, a lifetime committment to owning and keeping this grey happy, healthy and in the same home for the remainder of its life. We do have lots of useful information in our many threads so continue to read thru them and ask questions if you have any and we will help you in any way we can. I look forward to seeing some pictures of your grey when you get it, we love pictures here.
  4. No if she needs a new cage she needs a new cage, you would have to get one eventually as a cage doesn't last forever certainly not as long as she will live. Just get one and introduce it slowly and let her get used to it being there and you will get her into it, we all will have to deal with this at some point in time.
  5. Sue, "depends" are adult diapers:woohoo:  get it!! No you can't use any branch from any tree, I think we have a thread or two that list the safe wood we can use for our fids. Try this link: http://www.lovebirds.ca/Safey%20for%20Our%20Avian%20Companions.htm<br><br>Post edited by: judygram, at: 2009/03/30 20:25
  6. As I am in the US I don't know where you would look for cages but you can probably google it and find some good sites in the UK. A new cage, even if it is the same style would be a big deal to a grey, you would have to set it up and let Ben get used to it being in the same room and gradually move it closer and closer until it is right beside the current one. Put some toys in it to make it enticing and eventually she will check it out, she won't be able to resist. You could probably get one exactly like the one she has and she would still react the same way, she knows the difference.
  7. It will take a while for those flight feathers to grow out but they never should have been cut in the first place. She just needed some time to settle in and soon her personality will begin to emerge. Stella is a nice name.
  8. Hello GreyGhost and welcome to the family, glad you could finally join us and we look forward to hearing more about you, Obama and Zulu. So you have clutch mates but they are as different as day and night, I guess that is better than having two that act the same way, it gives you some variety and I am sure you have some stories to tell. I take that is Obama in the picture included with your post, you are free to add some of Zulu if you like. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
  9. Angel huh, doesn't much sound like an angel but yes she is trying to assert her authority, she thinks she rules the roost and if you let her get away with it then she does rule. You are going to have to just let her throw her toys everywhere and then she has nothing to play with but don't go back and get them for her, she has to learn how to amuse herself. Do you have any toys hanging or attached to the cage that she cannot throw overboard? She is just like a two year old child, she will have tantrums to get her way but you have to be smart enough to be a step ahead of her and not give in to these hissy fits.
  10. PMSL:woohoo: but you must have written those detailed instructions for others for I know my way around a hammer and nail. If I didn't know you I would have been highly offended by your remarks but instead I am sitting here wishing I hadn't forgotten my depends today, thought I wouldn't need them on Monday but boy was I wrong.
  11. Dave you have to understand some of these women here aren't handy with a hammer and nail and maybe they don't have a man around the house to do that for them but thanks for the detailed instructions and if they happen to have a coconut shell left from another discarded toy then they can put the hand protector on like the one in the picture. Thank you so much for your DIY idea, I am going to run right out and make one myself as I happen to be handy with a hammer:lol:  :woohoo:
  12. Exactly Dave and I have included one link to a thread about cleaning products and all you have to do is a search with that word and you will find other threads about the same subject. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/128167-cleaners.html#128250
  13. That is a nice travel cage but a little pricey and heavier than other travel cages but it might hold up longer than other lightweight ones so in the long run it may be a better buy. I have seen this one before and have considered getting it but the price is what is holding me back at the moment. Eric maybe hauling around 15+ pound cage is easy for you but some of us women find that a little heavy to be lugging around everywhere.
  14. You need to read some of the threads in the nursery room for advice about handfeeding but it seems to me that they sort of refuse a feeding and that is how you know they don't need it, but at the same time they are eating more other foods.
  15. I am so sorry Rana for your friend Amy's loss, Sylvia was a lovely looking grey, convey my condolsences to her please, now her feathered friend is flying freely over the Rainbow Bridge.
  16. Eric that is too cute, he is a smart little bugger isn't he and daddy is so proud, you should be, he knows exactly what he is talking about, thanks for sharing this with us. If you can maybe you can capture some of this conversation on video and share it with us, it would be a hoot to hear.
  17. I will be thinking of Mali too this Wednesday, hope he comes thru with flying colors. Thats great that he has put on some weight and doing ok, keep us informed.
  18. Hello Kia Ora and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Cleo. Congrats on your new grey, you have chosen quite an amazing creature when you choose to share your home with one and you won't be disappointed I'm sure. If I am not mistaken those lorikeets are very colorful birds aren't they, you might want to post a few pictures of them in our other birds room as I know I would love to see them. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Now if you would share some pics of Cleo with us we would love to see her.
  19. "Oh boy, I been caught for sure this time"
  20. Yes we need pictures here please Cassandra!! I completely understand how you could get caught up with your new baby, Darwin and what a nice surprise that you got him a little early. You sound like you are having the time of your life, glad to hear it is all going well for you and Darwin. Now pictures please!!!
  21. Well we take the bad along with the good, he just wasn't in the mood today, don't look at it as a setback for it isn't, maybe tomorrow will be different, the main thing is to keep trying.
  22. She is very pretty, I love the dark eyes before they turn lighter. We have an other birds room where you can share a pic of your sun conure if you like, I would be interested in seeing it.
  23. Hello Neruda074 and welcome to the family, so glad you have decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Vegas. She is a very stunning looking grey from the picture you so kindly included in your first post, you must be very proud of her. I also have a sun conure, Sunny but my grey and her do not get along, they have separate cages but are in the same room, Josey is famous for telling Sunny to shut up when she screams. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
  24. She looks to be very proud of herself, a good picture of her, thanks for sharing it with us.
  25. Lucky you:laugh: bet you have elbow grease too huh, now I am ROFLMAO, thanks for the laughs.
