  2. She will get over it Tanya, she is a little mad right now, I am sure it hurt to have that feather shaft pulled but it had to be done so give her a little time and she will be back to her old self. Thanks for letting us know.
  3. I wondered about that name, very unusual and now we know where it came from.
  4. Natalie, maybe you should back off a little since it has only been a week you have had her, she hasn't had enough time to settle in and feel comfortable and you may be trying to rush things with her. Its better to go slow if she is afraid, talk to her softly, tell her what you are doing and let her calm down before attempting to do anything with her. She might not want you holding her yet until she feels comfortable doing so. Just be patient with her and she will let you know when she is ready for more. Some greys settle in quickly and some take more time but don't force her or it will backfire on you. I see this is your first post, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and this grey.
  5. Where abouts in Ohio is Steve Hartman's aviary, I come up to Parkersburg, WV to visit my son occasionally and that is close to Ohio, I would love to be able to visit the aviary when I come up the next time if I could manage it.
  6. Poor Phoebe, you are having a time with her, at least Pat taught you how to take care of it, let us know how she is Tanya later.
  7. Yes bringing in a new bird can upset the apple cart or the harmony of the house but you found a solution and it is working for you, glad to hear it. Thanks for keeping us updated and I hope it continues to improve for you and your fids.
  8. Yeah leave those "diaper" type suits in the store, what bird in his or her right mind would want to wear one of those things, not on my birds. B)
  9. Josey isn't much of a cuddler anymore but she is more receptive of it late in the evenings before she goes to bed, some like it more than others and a lot of them really love to do it when young babies so I think it is just normal behavior.
  10. Have your mum take it a little easy, it will take more time for your baby to warm up to her, he probably sees you more and he is getting used to you. He may already starting to bond with you or has picked you as a favorite and your mum doesn't share that sentiment so have her back off some and not force herself on him, he just needs more time to get used to her. He will let her know when she can do more with him.
  11. Our house may get into the upper 60's at night during the coldest of winter but I think they can handle lower than that. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable members will be able to chime in with their opinions.
  12. Well please don't hesitate to share the stories with us about her antics, we love nothing better than to hear them and share a laugh or two. I have given my grey a phone book to chew up, I had hubby drill a big hole in one corner to put a chain thru and hung it up in her cage, she worked on it for weeeks and I just haven't put another one in there for her. I can't wait to see pictures.
  13. Maybe it is an old game she used to play and she did it on purpose especially if she is fine, eating and otherwise acting normal. She has had 15 years to learn all sorts of behaviors before you got her. Keep an eye on her but a game is what I am thinking. Anyone else who thinks it is something else please chime in.
  14. Hello Aly and welcome to our family, we are so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Rebel. She sounds like quite a character but aren't they amazing creatures, once you have one you are hooked for life, nothing else like them thats for sure. She is smart too, she thinks you are stupid:laugh: wonder who taught her that, how old is she, she sounds older than just a just weaned baby? As you are finding out we do have loads of useful information here in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We love pictures here so if you have some of Rebel and your other pets you would share with us we would appreciate it.

We also aren't as active as we get older but think we can eat the same amount of food so the pounds pile on. I didn't used to have a sit down job like I do now and I could pretty much eat what I wanted for I was on my feet all day and moving around, now I sit at a desk in front of a computer and it makes a big difference. I don't skip any meals but I do think it would help to have more smaller meals than just 3 bigger ones. This IS a great topic Julie and we could go on and on forever about it.

Thanks Carol I might just take you up on that for I know I am shortening my life by not loosing and keeping this weight off, I have grandkids and want to see my great grandkids.
  17. Yes they are funny little things but that is what makes them so endearing, I would imagine jealousy plays at least a small part in the problem but glad to hear it is improving.

Yes we do eat far more than we need and restaurants do not help at all, its seems they have to serve a heaping plate of food much more than should be eaten but then people would not feel they were getting their money's worth. I have lost and gained it back many times, a yo-yo effect which is not good in itself but I am going to watch this link and see if anything about it applies to me and maybe it will help me too like it did Carol. I am very proud of you Carol, you have done what many of us can't seem to do.

Carol, will we be able to watch this later, is it taped? I am at work right now and do not have sound on my computer but I do want to watch this.
  21. I'm so sorry Shelia for your sister's loss of Tess, its never easy to lose a beloved pet but he is in a better place now and she has her memories to cherish. This will be devastating news for her son so give them both a hug from me Shelia.

  23. Bless both of you Jay and Maggie for what you do, only someone who truly loves birds could do what you do for these precious creatures and I just bet you would keep them all if you could, thank you, thank you, thank you.
  24. Oh I didn't realize they had those white patches on the upper wing, how interesting, Koko looks like she wants a scratch from Mocha, what wonderful pictures, thanks so much for keeping us up to date on him.
