  1. Size is a definite factor Lyn, I find that Josey is more accepting of a smaller toy versus a large one but there are exceptions, there is this little round circle of some viney thing, a foot toy that Josey is afraid of still, something about it shouts evil or something.
  2. Thats it exactly, she is practicing her voice and soon she will start saying words and phrases more clearly, it will amaze you so let the fun begin.
  3. I think that is so wonderful that you get to keep Blue for periods of time to enjoy having another grey in the house but not for keeps. He certainly makes himself at home when he is there it looks like. I guess in his older age, over 40, he is moving maybe a little slower than his younger counterpart Charlie but its heartwarming to hear he still enjoys banging a bell. Josey loves a good chicken bone also.
  4. Everyone has to make their own decision as to whether they clip their birds wings or not, I don't clip my birds anymore but if you feel you should do so then by all means do it. You are the one who has to live with your bird, you know your home, your situation and if you decide to clip his wings then do it. I nor anyone else here should try to make you do something that you feel is right for you. Clipping is sometimes necessary so you do what you feel is right for you.
  5. I'm so excited as there could be something happening this weekend, this is so fascinating to watch.
  6. These latest shots are adorable, Koko definitely wants to be friends and get a scratch but Mocha says no way, thanks for sharing these pics with us.
  7. Thanks Dan for that link, yes even I can understand that.
  8. Hello Lisa and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you, Rocky and Mango. Bless you for taking in Mango, she is a plucker but maybe with some time and the attention she needs she will stop doing that. It probably is because her former owner went back to work but she probably should be seen by an avian vet to rule out anything physical as the cause. Having the second grey will at least provide some company for Mango for when you are not at home, even being in separate cages they can chat back and forth with each other. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We do love pictures here so if you have some of Rocky and Mango you would share with us we would appreciate it greatly. I see in the Live Chat window that you are having problems with uploading pics, I have provided a link that may help you with that. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/welcome-&-introduction-room/54297-how-to-post-pictures.html
  9. Not to worry Lyn, admin will move them to the appropriate rooms.
  10. """"bad experience with chickens as a child"""" Excuse me for laughing Lyn but I couldn't help it, I grew up on a farm and we had thousands of chickens and the only scary moment I had was when one rooster decided to try to jump on me when I went into the henhouse to gather the eggs, we only kept hens because we wanted the eggs but somehow a rooster got mistaken for a hen, it was a little scary at the time but I soon got over it, no harm came to either of us, well no harm to me I think he was eventually eaten. Now back to the story, my hubby doesn't help much with my birds, see that is the key here, "my birds" he talks to them sometimes and picks Josey up off the floor if she comes off her cage or playstand since she does not fly at this time but that is about the extent of it. He tolerates them being in the house, he does get kisses from them at times but otherwise they are mine to take care of. I think that is wonderful that he participates more in doing for Alfie especially if Alf is not in the mood to let you handle him, I am really the only one who can handle Josey, she will allow my hubby to do so much and that is it.
  11. That is interesting Lyn but I don't have the answer but I do know that something looked at from another angle looks different even to us. For example when I am traveling a road never traveled before you see things that when you come back thru from the other direction they do look differently so I don't know whether that has anything to do with it or not. I think parrot eyes do work independently of each other but then I could be wrong, maybe someone who has more knowledge can help us out here.
  12. Hello Shadesofgrey and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Chickpea. Sorry you are having such a hard time with posting pictures, a lot of us here do use photobucket to share pictures but keep working at it and maybe you will soon succeed. Do read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.

  14. It is very possible as many of our members have more than one bird including me but my other bird is a sun conure which is much smaller than a macaw. You will have to keep the two birds far enough apart that neither one could harm the other until you are sure they can be trusted to be in the same space such as on the same playstand. There might be a little jealousy issue when you bring the other bird into the house but if you handle it correctly then there shouldn't be any major problems, just make sure they both get personal time with you. Pat, aka tycosmom will be able to give you some insight into this situation, she has many birds and has just brought a macaw into her home. Congrats on getting another bird, a blue and gold is a very pretty macaw and is a favorite among the ones who love the larger parrots.
  15. Gosh Julie what an exciting weekend you have planned, almost as exciting as mine, I slept in this morning, got a little housework to do, laundry and going nowhere for the remainder of the weekend. Just watch some TV, cruise thru the forum and that is about it, is a dreary day with intermittent rain, may veg out on the sofa and watch a movie with a bag of popcorn, wow I must calm myself from too much excitement.  :woohoo:
  16. I would continue to give her what she will take, it is just taking a little longer for her, she will let you know she doesn't want it any longer and then its over.
  17. The consistency and looks should matter more than frequency as they do seem to drop one very often during the day and then hold it all night dropping that big bomb in the morning. And the color is affected by what they eat, try giving some fresh beets and see how pretty the morning bomb will be.
  18. That story amused me Jill, I'll bet not too many mail carriers have been bitten by a parrot and he probably will get the top points for the week with that "bite" thanks for sharing that with us, started my day off with a good laugh.
  19. Koko looks very at ease on his outing with the family, he is enjoying it as much as you obviously did, that is a great shot of him with your daughter, thanks for sharing these with us Sanggay.
  20. Yep it won't be long now before he is flying across your home and I know you can't wait.
  21. What a scare that must have been for you and Nikki, I hope she is going to be ok but it was a good thing you were home when it happened. Yes we have to be vigilant about things that they could get their head caught in and by providing a pic of the ring it might prevent it from happening to another bird.
  22. That was an excellent idea on changing her perches to rope material, she certainly won't be able to scratch it so much with that and I hope it helps. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of her.
  23. I hope Rishi is going to be ok and keep us informed.
  24. Yipppeeeeeeeee, Tyco can finally fly, its been a long time coming but how sweet it is, thanks for sharing that with us Pat and the pics too.
  25. I know that well, they think your plate has better food on it even though theirs has the same things. My two birds recognize the package that cheddar cheese comes in and when it comes out of the fridge watch out for they want it and want it now.
