  1. Josey doesn't much care for bananas either and it may be a texture thing but the dried bananas might be a hit, thanks Adina for sharing that with us.
  2. Hello Barbara and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing lots more about you and Neo. Thats some breeder you must have had for they did a wonderful job with your grey but I imagine that the personality of Neo has something to do with it too. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. I assume that is Neo in your avatar but if you have some more pictures you would share with us we would love to see them.
  3. Donald I am so glad to hear you want to keep Stella full flighted and when she does fly it will be the experience of a lifetime. Yes we all have "gifted greys"
  4. Hello Jedimaster and welcome to our family, congrats on taking in this grey in need of a new forever home. We have some threads here that deal with those biting issues but you are still in his settling in period and when he will feels more comfortable in his new home the bites may lessen especially as you learn to read his body language. I am glad to hear he is scheduled for a vet visit to make sure he is healthy and do try to share a couple of pictures of him with us.
  5. Hello Coral and welcome to our family and congrats on getting Georgia, she is a beauty and thanks for sharing them in your intro post. Georgia is just coming into her independence now that she is about 1 1/2 years old but like Dan said she is in the honeymoon phase right now and you won't see her real personality until she settles in to her new home so give her lots of time and be patient with her as she unpacks her bags. You need to spend lots of time with her, talk to her even if she is in her cage, read to her and don't force her to do anything she is not comfortable with to gain her trust, offer her little treats to help the process along. All birds bite, its one of the ways they have to tell us they don't like something so take notice of what you are doing at the time of the bite but as time goes by you will be more able to read her body language which will indicate when a bite may be coming so you can avoid it. I would suggest you read thru a lot of the threads here for lots of useful information and do ask questions and we will help you in any way we can.
  6. Hello Pradhu and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Laddu. Do not worry about his quietness at the moment, he has entered a whole new world for him, new owners, new home, new everything to him so he is taking it all in at the moment but be prepared for more of his true personality to emerge as he settles into his new home. Just give him time and lots of love and he will be exploring his cage and his new surroundings, after all you have only had him 3 days, that is nothing in grey time. He looks about 4 months old, those dark eyes are a dead giveaway as they turn lighter as they age and he is a handsome little fella from the pics you so nicely shared with us right off the bat without asking for them, sometimes we have to beg for pics. Don't worry about the toys for right now, they will get played with soon enough when he is ready.
  7. Thats what I thought too Dave, thanks for pointing that out.
  8. I too have to echo the others comments about it being a very stressful day for Tesla, there was too much going on for a bird to be relaxed about anything much less being manhandled by a behaviorist which seems foreign to me as it should be the bird owner doing the hands on with the bird, after all she is the one the bird is used to. I have to agree with Jay that working with Tesla should be done in a neutral room away from any distractions and then and only then after you have success at it do it with the additions of the normal surroundings, if a bird feels threatened in any way then nothing good will happen. This will be a long process and will take a lot of time but it will be worth it when Tesla comes to trust you but that trust has to be earned.
  9. Georgia is trying you at the moment and you fell for it. You should let her out in the afternoons or whenever you get home from work during the weekdays and when she goes back in later to get some food or water then you can shut her door and do not let her out when she does that scratching at the bottom of her cage late at night, she should be in bed by that time. Some birds want to go to bed at dark but mine stay up until around 9:30 and then they are covered for the night. If you are having trouble getting her back into the cage then offer her a treat or something you know she likes and let her see you put it into her cage. You have only had this bird for a few days and it will take some time for her to settle in to her new home and for her true personality to appear.
  10. You certainly have that process down pat, love + patience + time = success and a good reminder for everyone who has a cautious grey which includes most of us, she did take her time but now she is enjoying that and you are enjoying watching her play on it, thanks for sharing that video with us even if it was sideways, maybe Dee has a point!
  11. Its always heartwarming to hear when a grey decides to relax a bit and venture a little farther than before, shows she is starting to feel more comfortable but just take your time and don't rush it and soon she will be where you want her to be, remember small steps with lots of time and patience. Thanks for sharing a few pics of her with us, she is precious.
  12. I hope the owner of this grey is found but if not then it looks like you may have what you wished for for I know that a lot of birds in foster homes end up staying in those homes but kudos to you for giving him a forever home if needed, every lost bird should be so lucky to end up in a home like yours, please keep us informed as to what happens.
  13. Yes as Dave says he is just taking a break from talking and will get back to talking when he feels like doing so, he is far from being sexually mature but touching certain areas a lot can be stimulating him somewhat so you may want to cut back on areas under the wing, down the back and anywhere around the tail areas as they are the arousal zones.
  14. Thanks Lyn for sharing that find with us, what an amazing friendship they make.
  15. You take such wonderful pictures Sanggay but of course you have a greyt subject to work with, thanks for sharing them with us.
  16. They all do that scratching under the beak and neck as mine does it too. I highly doubt she has any parasites.
  17. No you wouldn't Lyn as it has been deleted by Dave.
  18. Hello Rose and welcome to our family, so glad to see you did your research when you decided to join the ranks of parrot ownership and you are embarking on the ride of a lifetime so sit back and enjoy. If everyone followed your footsteps we wouldn't have so many birds in need of rescuing and rehoming for too many people jump in on a whim and then later realize what they have gotten themselves into. I can't wait to see some pictures of her and btw have you given her a name yet?
  19. Thats excellent news Karen, remember small steps but it seems to be going well for Angel.
  20. Where else would it be entirely proper to post pictures of your grey's poops, glad we could put your worries to rest at least in this case, next question!
  21. Azzie has hit the nail on the head, just tell him thank you and walk away.
  22. Hello First Penguin, I just wanted to welcome you to our family and to say I like your plan on adding a grey to your flock, wish everyone was as thorough as you are.
  23. Hello Lauren and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing lots more about you and Poppy.

    Peanuts?

I throw out all those peanuts in the shell that comes in with any bird mix I get and I buy human grade roasted unsalted peanuts to give my fids, most of those peanuts in the shell may be just fine but you never know when you might come across one with that fungus in it and it just isn't worth the risk, I really wish the companies that package those seed and nut mixtures would leave them out.
