  1. Cody is wet but beautiful, you managed to get some good pictures, he is a handsome fella, thanks for sharing them with us.
  2. Ian I am so sorry to hear you are having to find Duke a new home, we all go thru life changes and it is sad that Duke will have to adjust to another new home but you know best, I cannot take him but maybe one of the members will be willing to give him a home, he deserves a forever home for I hate to see birds passed around and around.
  3. If she is molting then she enjoys the scratches as it helps to remove the keratin covering the new feathers coming in, they tend to be a little itchy, glad she is allowing you to give her scritches, most greys love to be scritched.
  4. Well it looks like you did a good job this time as the pics turned out clear, thanks for sharing some with us of Cleo, she is so pretty.
  5. That is groundhog for I never turn my nose up to ground hog!
  6. I have to say at first I though ole Jill was pulling our leg but this bears further investigation, thanks for providing the link so we can read more for ourselves. None of my birds are banded, my choice.
  7. Josey gets a little of whatever meat we are eating and that includes deer, elk, bear, wild turkey, pheasant, dove, rabbit, squirrel plus some chicken, turkey and a little beef from the store, my husband is a hunter and we eat what he kills though I do cross the line at ground hog.
  8. Whatever kind of bird that is it is so ugly that it is beautiful and it does look like it has on mascara, I bet your pics just do not do it justice, maybe from another angle it would have, thanks for sharing them with us Rana.
  9. I kiss all my birds all the time, with Josey she comes up to me and I kiss her beak and she never touches me with her tongue, she will kiss my hubby too if he asks though occasionally she doesn't want to and he is ok with that. She has never bitten me but I am careful to respect her wishes if she isn't in the mood for whatever I ask, I don't want to force m self on her. I also kiss her neck but only if I get the signals she wants it if not then I might try later. You do what you are comfortable with and if you feel you can trust your bird to not bite you.
  10. I don't use sleep cages either but I have the room for them, just felt they were unnecessary but their cages are covered for the night. Dave has the right idea, something big enough to hold some food and water and maybe a couple of toys for they are only sleeping in it and not living in it.
  11. I was hoping to hear some good news by now but she could still be nearby but is keeping a low profile so as not to be noticed by predators, keep looking and did you contact Parrot Alert as they are a new group but you may be able to contact others from the area you are from and more eyes on the lookout the better. Here is their website: http://www.911parrotalert.com/
  12. I find conflicting information on this substance commonly called BPA, some say it is safe and some say not, who knows but maybe someone on this forum knows more as right now I sort of feel like not allowing my birds to chew on them until I find out for sure, good question Chezron.
  13. Yes please let us know what you find out as I am curious too. I chose to not have Josey's band put on for I have heard of other stories where they get them caught on things and have to have them removed but I have it in my possession.
  14. Thats it in a nutshell and I am surprised it took 2 years before he would step up but conures can be stubborn little creatures as I have a sun conure but she was hand fed, not by me though. I am sure that after spending time with each one you will know which one to go with and whatever you decide give it your best shot, take all the time you need to bring this bird around and accept what it will give in terms of love and companionship, you won't regret it and besides you have us all to help you in any step you need support or advice.
  15. Dave007 has always been a believer in spraying aloe vera juice on our birds to help with dry skin, maybe you could try misting her a couple of times a week to help with the itching but give Spinner's idea a try too, both of these guys know what they are talking about and have the experience to back up what they say.
  16. I think this is interesting that we have two completely different opinions on the JW Air systems but could this be two different companies as Talon stated JW air systems and the other mentioned was JWR, are they one and the same or two different ones, inquiring minds would like to know.
  17. Yes I would imagine that Sunshine will become more vocal once he feels more comfortable in his new home but if his former owner said he was a quiet bird then he must be for macaws are usually very loud at times. I would probably adhere to his regular bedtime for even if they do nap during the day it doesn't make up for lost sleep overnight, there should be routine but not so much that it doesn't allow for some flexibility but just like our human children they need a set bedtime or they get cranky. I hope to hear more about Sunshine and maybe some more pictures and this time don't size them down so small for they are better viewed a little larger, if you need my help just let me know.
  18. Are they arranged in order of importance as I see the wine in the foreground!
  19. Hello Frosty and welcome to our family and your grandfather must have known you would make a good parront for his grey. If Johnny has been plucking for years yes it is a habit now and will be very hard to break but follow any advice your avian vet gives you as you never know what might work. I would continue to spend a lot of time with him, not necessarily holding him but talking to him and maybe giving him a treat now and then to show him you mean him no harm but it takes a long time to gain a grey's trust and they like to have some control over when and if they will do certain things so be patient with him. We would love to see some pictures of Johnny if you have some you would share with us.
  20. Hello Angie and welcome to our family and a big hello to Brody. You are a wonderful person to take in your aunt's bird when she could no longer keep it and he will do fine in his new home since he already knows you, he will settle in nicely. Would love to see some pictures of Brody if you have some you would share with us.
  21. Hello Mips and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your flock. My you have a pretty bunch of fids, didn't know the blue and gold came headless, thats a first for me, just kidding, maybe you can share another one that shows the whole bird. Thanks for sharing the pictures in your intro post.
  22. Kevin sent me a picture of Sunshine so here he is, isn't he beautiful!
  23. I started out with a sun conure too and she only whet my appetite for a larger bird but suns are great companions and mine is a shoulder ornament for she thinks she has a permanent place there whenever she is out of her cage. You ask all the questions you want, thats what we are here for.
  24. I am so envious of those in these pictures, wish we had something like that here as I would love to be surrounded by those beautiful birds, thanks for sharing these with us, you are so lucky to have the opportunity to experience this.
  25. Hello Sarahp and welcome to our family, so glad to hear you are wanting to add a grey to your flock and you have come to the right place looking for information to help you in your decision. Thats wonderful you are considering an older bird as most people want a just weaned baby but if you are willing to put up with whatever baggage comes with the grey you get and have the patience to work with this bird then you should not have too big a problem to tackle. There are lots of members here who have taken in older birds and even rescued ones in deplorable conditions and with lots of love and attention they have blossomed into great pets.
