  1. Dave is right about the price as it can range widely but please do all the research and reading you can before you totally commit to getting a grey, make sure it is really what you want, remember that the price of the bird is only part of the cost as there is the cage, toys, foods and vet bills that can run into lots more money spent.
  2. How do you know he wants you to touch him, what is he doing that makes you think that? I see from your entry post that your grey is 5 years of age, that means he is about at sexual maturity and you should avoid touching certain areas to keep from sexually arousing him. My grey is 4 years old and I can tell she is showing signs of arousal but I don't encourage such behavior as it will only frustrate her and can lead to them biting you when they don't get the results they want.
  3. Well I can tell you one thing, there won't be any money coming out of my pocket towards this movie since it may not see the light of day and as far as getting an apology don't expect one for it is not forthcoming, there are so many scams out there today that everyone has to be careful and besides we don't know you so excuse me if you think you were offended.
  4. They have their good days and their bad days just like we do and Val might have hit on another reason since Thanksgiving has just past and Christmas is coming and they sense the changes going on, just don't take the bites personally.
  5. 1. Well one thing when he flies to your shoulder is put your arm up to block him from going there or to divert him to somewhere else for most of them are drawn to the shoulder unless you put a stop to it. 2. Maybe he only wants to be scratched for a few seconds, after all he has only been with you a short time. 3. Yes continue to have him step up but there will be times he just won't want to and respect his decision at that time. 4. Realize that biting is the main way he has to tell you something and no the biting will never stop but it should lessen greatly, if you push when he is not in the mood then "BAM" you will suffer a bite. 5. I don't really have any advice for potty training as I never attepmted that with my fids.
  6. Ahh the terrible twos but then they go into the horrible threes and the difficult fours and well you get the message!
  7. Just being there and spending time with him is building trust, not pushing him for more than he wants to give, when you are out of the room where he is and he calls to you then you give an answer call to let him know you are still around, trust is not something you attain in a short period of time it has to be earned.
  8. Funny you gave him some in his bowl but he has more fun fishing them out of the container, makes him feel like he is doing something naughty, what a ham and thanks for sharing the picture with us, can't wait to see the video.
  9. That makes all the difference too when you are confident instead of fearful for they sense that and hence the bite coming, you are figuring Timmy out and it is wonderful to hear you being so positive about him, I see greyt things in your future with him, keep up the good work.
  10. Happy belated Hatchday Issac, you are one handsome fella and your daddy loves you to bits.
  11. This is priceless and thanks Dan for reposting it.
  12. I think it is a phase she is going thru right now and it may pass, she is fairly new to flying if she is only 4 months old but she has decided to shake things up a bit with the biting. Why don't you have Tina put her arm up when Lilly flies toward her to direct her away from her. She has probably decided that you are her favorite person and Tina is second best and it matters none that she may be the one feeding and taking care of her every need. You can also tell Lilly "no bite" when she goes to bite Tina and put her back in her cage and with some time she will know that biting is not acceptable behavior and be sure to praise the good behavior for they love praise and treats.
  13. That is so funny Dee, I don't have an inside dog but my sun conure takes the place of any dog in that if given the chance she will snatch some of what I am eating and heaven help me if she does for she gets vicious about that little bit she managed to pluck from me and I surely will get bitten if I try to take it away from her, she can be such a little sweetheart until she gets ahold of something especially if snatched, then she turns into a little monster. Thanks for sharing that tale with us.
  14. I am thankful for every day I spend with my fids, my family and friends, we should all be thankful for what we have for you don't have to look very far to find someone else with less.
  15. Hello Wallace and welcome to our family, so glad you got yourself a grey. Why don't you tell us more about yourself and this grey, what is hs name, do you know anything about his past, do you have other birds and so forth?
  16. Yes they do and it will be worth the wait when Lucy finally makes it to your home Chris, won't be long now.
  17. That was excellent JC, Bobo is a lovely grey and you managed to get some very nice shots of her playing on her playstand, very nicely orchestrated slide show, thanks for sharing it with us.
  18. Cocoa is pretty and beautiful in any color as she is so photogenic, of course it might have something to do with the photographer, you take wonderful pictures Sanggay, thanks for sharing them with us.
  19. It sounds like you are doing all the right things with Gary and allowing him to settle in and take things at his pace is what will win him over, it may take some time for you to gain his trust considering what he had to put up with in his former home. You can ask all the questions you want, we don't mind answering them if we know the answer and there are a lot of knowledgeable members here who knows just about all there is to know about greys.
  20. Yes real trees are fine and I always have a real tree, no fake tree for me, I love the way they smell and it wouldn't seem like Christmas if it was fake, of course my fids stay away from that tree for by the time they get used to the tree its time to take it down.
  21. Yes Gary is a great looking grey and I hope things go swell for you and it should as you have the right attitude and not his former owner. Just realize that you are in the honeymoon phase of the new relationship and he may show more of his true personality after he settles in a bit but just take your time and give him lots of space to become familiar with his new digs and don't force yourself on him, let him make the decision to allow more interaction and he will be come to trust you so be patient.
  22. This is all too familiar, when they see us eating anything they think you need to share for whatever is yours is theirs too, you might have to come up with something similar looking to give Jasper the next time you are snacking on something, it could lead to you selecting healthier snacks for yourself so you can share them.
  23. Greys are known for being one of the quieter parrots but she will get into her more vocal periods as time goes on, wait until she play fights with one of her toys, mine can make some racket when she fights with her bell so if Rita doesn't already have one I would get one for no grey should be without it, glad to hear she is doing so well.
  24. Lucy is beautiful and you look so happy with her, I know you can't wait to get her home with you, thanks for sharing a couple of pics with us, please indulge us with lots more once she is home.
  25. Barbara is right for it definitely made a difference in the survival of that grey that flew away and be aware that even a lightly clipped bird can fly given a good wind so if your bird did ever get out it would stand a better chance being flighted. It is a personal decision but it depends on factors according to your household, do you have children who run in and out all the time and such, when you have your bird out of the cage you would have to supervise at all times to keep it from getting into something that could harm it and keep outside doors and windows closed. There are other measures you could take to ensure the safety of your flighted bird so think long and hard before you decide to clip. Only you know your situation and whether you can make it work or not but my opinion is to leave the bird unclipped.
