  1. Hello Adam and welcome to our family and a warm welcome to Presten, he must be a well socialized grey to be talking already as most will take some time to get comfortable in a new home before talking. He sounds like a delight and well behaved but do not be surprised if that changes in the near future when the "honeymoon" is over. I would just ignore the swearing so as not to encourage it, he may never quit saying them but it might lessen some as time goes by. I look forward to seeing some pictures of Presten when you get the chance to share some with us.
  2. Karen this was Dave's answer in the thread about fake eggs, I would have her checked out for laying all those eggs will deplete her calcium.
  3. Wow 3 feet of snow is a bit much for me though we have had that much accumulate but not at one time, one foot at a time is my limit for it covers nicely all the grass and makes it white, we had about 3 inches last weekend but hope to get more before Christmas.
  4. Well Pepsi should be there now, how is it going with him, please give us updates on how it is going and whether it changes your mind at all about getting your own grey, inquiring minds want to know!
  5. Talon is right your bird may be sick and time is of the essence when a bird is under the weather for by the time they show they are ill they have been sick for a while, please take him to the vet and let us know what you find out.
  6. Hello Mort's Dad and welcome to our family, you have a greyt looking grey and by all means let loose with any questions you may have as we might have some answers for you.
  7. I can't wait to see this movie.
  8. Hello Yoshi and welcome to our family, would love to see some pictures if you would share some with us.
  9. I second that and add sitting by a wood burning fireplace on a cold winter's night.
  10. What a sweetheart Alfie is, don't you just love her to pieces!
  11. Lets hope this mood lasts a lifetime and by now you are seeing what an amazing grey you have, it just took a while for him to come out of his shell but once he did, wow what a bird, enjoy the little bugger.
  12. Cocoa leads such an exciting life, she is a model in the avian world and so photogenic, thanks for sharing them with us.
  13. I hope you did leave the eggs in the cage until she looses interest in them for if you take them away she will lay more to replace them but so glad to hear Sadie is such a loving little sweetheart, I am praying that Josey never lays any eggs.
  14. Sounds like a bunch of sour grapes to me Jill, we across the pond have been hit with very cold temperatures and a little snow here but lots more elsewhere but you might as well accept it as you can do anything about Mother Nature, she is what she is so quit yer bellyaching!!
  15. Hello StephC and welcome to our family, sure you can make it work if you are determined to bring a grey into your house and keep the children away from the bird for the time being until they get old enough to interact with the bird. Young children are usually loud and very quick moving and that tends to make greys nervous and the bird might deliver a bite if the kids get too close but we have other members who have young children and their birds and them make it work. I am sure you have done your research on greys and know what to expect but if not please do read thru the many threads here for lots of information that will help you with that new grey.

    Leg Band

None of my birds have bands, my sun conure was not banded, I chose to not have the band put on my grey and my cockatiel came to me without a band, I have heard that some have caught their bands on things and suffered injuries so when given the choice I opted not to band.
  17. A picture would have been worth a thousand words, next time you feed the cherries to the fids capture one or two for us to enjoy them enjoying their fruits.
  18. You have just got this grey so you need to give him time to settle in and feel comfortable in his new home, you seem to not know much about the african grey so why don't you read all you can especially the threads here so you will know what to expect but I get the impression you only wanted a bird that talks, well he probably has a wide vocabulary but you won't hear it until he feels more relaxed in his new home. You cannot make a grey stop biting or say the things you want him to say, only time and lots of patience will accomplish that along with the proper care to develop a bond between you and that my friend has to be earned so get busy and read thru all the threads and then you will have some idea of what you are facing.
  19. Exactly for there are so many out there that push unnecessary tests to pad the bill but Dave is right, an avian vet is a specialist that is going to cost more than the average vet who sees your typical domesticated animals. I am glad to hear that it has been suggested by an avian vet that a bird does not need an annual visit as I have been pondering this myself so mine may only go when there is an obvious problem for we know our birds better than anyone else.
  20. Just like a spoiled child, yes it looks like Cricket is sulking over not being the center of attention but her day is coming and I am sure the queen will be in fine form when she takes the throne, be sure to share some pictures of the big day.
  21. Just give her some time Lyn and she will settle into her new digs, you know how our greys are and she will be back to her old self in no time flat, I think you have done all the right things so don't worry so much Lyn.
  22. Lucy is so beautiful and she is adorable in the video, I know you can't wait to bring her home but good things come to those who wait so be patient, I expect to see lots of pictures and more videos when she comes to her new forever home.
  23. Hello Mcclain and welcome to our family, so good you could join us and we look forward to hearing lots more about you and Chachi, some pictures would be nice.
  24. Happy Hatchday Corky, loved the pictures.
  25. Hello Bill and welcome to our family, I see Dave has given you some excellent advice as always and I had to laugh at that statement "I read somewhere that birds should not roam, bite or scream" what a bunch of crap as they will do all three if they like but greys tend to be one of the quieter parrots. My grey did not go thru a terrible two stage, at least I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary so maybe yours won't either but enjoy what you have.
