  1. Thanks for sharing that information with us Marguerite as it helps to know how to deal with these kind of people and maybe it will be helpful to Karen in her quest to help this hoarder.
  2. You dang skippy you will for we have missed seeing Harvey and his antics grace greyforums for too long so get busy and do just that Jill.
  3. I think I would find myself a new vet, my opinion.
  4. Ok I stand corrected, they might not bleed from the eyes but some of the blood vessels can break making the eyes appear bloodshot, that is what I meant by bleeding from the eyes.
  5. Oh please keep us updated for it sounds like you have made a decision and if you want it then you can make it work.
  6. Great detective work, thanks for posting these links and many thanks for the heads up on graphic pictures.
  7. Rita will get used to your home with all its noises and things going on and that is wise to keep the children at a distance for a while and let them gain her trust but it looks like you have the right attitude and I see things going smoothly for you, now just when is Rita coming to her new home?
  8. Thats right now we have two Dorians and both lovely birds.
  9. I have an exterminator come to my house every month but they don't come inside anymore as I don't feel comfortable with any chemicals they use inside the house so they just do the outside.
  10. That is a known fact that grey's eyes can bleed if restrained and I don't think it has anything to do with their health but I could be mistaken and one of the experts can correct me on it. Your avian vet is the one who knows best and his/her advice is the best.
  11. Karen be sure to let us know what you find out and I am not surprised you found some rude people and was told you were a busy body, sometimes it takes a "busy body" to get things done and for something to happen for the good, you go girl.
  12. We will look forward to hearing all about his progress but you hit on the key word, "his" pace as it must not be rushed, anything worth having is worth waiting for, I can see great things coming in the near future for you and Marcus with this train of thought.
  13. Oh I am ashamed to admit I recognized almost all of the pictures and phrases in the video, shows my age but I really loved watching this.
  14. Babalu seems to love the Tops pellets and it is working out better for you and him, thanks for sharing the pics with us.
  15. Thats a great looking cage because Josey has one just like it but in a different color but hers doesn't have the divider, I love it because of that playtop on one side but Cody looks good in it too, thanks for sharing them with us. What grey is that in the picture hanging on the wall in the fourth pic, its not of Cody for the eyes are too light, maybe Rudy?
  16. It may take a while for them to eat them but keep offering them and maybe pretend to eat one in front of them to entice them to try it, sometimes that is the trick for they want what we have, they have never seen them before so don't know they are what they would be eating in the wild.
  17. Be sure to let us know what you decide and how it goes.
  18. Wow this is a toss up, he had the bird for many years but gave it up and now he finds it in a park, both have valid points, I will look forward to hearing what the outcome is.
  19. Hi Jill, nice to have you back after a long absence, you have been missed.
  20. Well be sure to read thru a lot of the many threads we have here for you will find loads of advice that will prove invaluable to you and Sinty, all kinds of questions have been asked and answered, you will find them to be a great resource of helpful information.
  21. Its all just a matter of chance whether a new bird will cause problems for you can't know the individual personality of the one you are adding, some will blend right in and some will not, the only way to know is to try but there are a lot of members here who have more than one bird, most of us are not satisfied with just one and we get several. You are the only one who can make this decision, only you know if having a macaw is worth the risk but things change all the time.
  22. It will take time to develop a bond with this bird and like it was said you have to earn her trust, a grey won't be rushed into anything so if you are prepared to take some time to allow this relationship to happen then by all means do so. A bird is not like a cat or dog that will be friends right off the bat for they are domesticated animals, greys are wild animals and have to come to trust you with consistent behavior on your part. Sit by her cage and talk to her softly, read the newspaper or magazine to her and let her see you are not forcing anything on her, offer her treats and allow her to come out of her cage but if when you approach her she goes to bite you then you know you need to back off, using her beak to bite is the only way she can tell you she is not comfortable with what you are doing so do not take the bites personally. The other members of your household should back off for right now and let her settle down and then they can offer her treats and do the same things you are doing to develop a relationship with her. Some greys tend to favor one person over another and that may be the case here but that doesn't mean she will never accept them but maybe just differently. Give it some time will you for one week is not nearly enough to gain the trust of a just weaned baby much less an adult grey.
  23. You have to realize this will take time, it can't be rushed with an african grey and especially one that is 5 years old and you have only had her for 3 days. She is a mature bird and has a personality already developed and brings baggage with her and it will take some time for her to unpack that and settle into a new home and that means weeks and maybe many months before that happens.
